Just few questions - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi all,
This is my first post in this site, and I hope I will find help and meet nice people in this nice site.
I have some questions about "O2 XDA mini s", sorry if they are some repetetions, but I did my best not repeat.
1. What are the differences between "XDA mini s" and "imate k-jam"? this question has destroyed my mind thinking about it!!
for example "screen clearance, stlye, performance, more solid, etc"
I know they have the same specifications, but I dont beleive they are exactly the same... Honestly, when I look at the kjam pictures on the net, I feel it is more shiny and stylish, although I have already ordered my "mini s" and it is on its way to me. (waiting)
2. Does the kjam ROM updates run perfectly on the "mini s"?
anyone installed this software on a mini s?
3. The kjam updates for other langauges, specifically Arabic version K-JAM_Arabic_2160901_21609102_20710_ship.exe, do they make the mobile locally arabic? I mean do they make the menues and OS messages appear in arabic (like changing the 'Start' into its arabic analogy word) (which I hate), or they just enable the mobile to read arabic text?? any risk to update ROM? is it likely that I will damage my mobile if I do so?
4. I am shipping my "O2 XDA mini s" to asia, and I know that a new ROM update was released from O2, but when I attemp to download, they request my O2 number, which I dont have cause I am outside uk, so how can I download this software from o2 site, or any other site??
5. Finally, about the stereo headsets that come with the mini s, I saw its picture, and it seems bad, its style is not comfortable with the ear, and I really hate this too, the k-jam version of the headsets is amazing, but what about the mp3 quality of the mini s headsets compared to the kjam?
and does the mini s headset feel comfortable when put in the ear??
Sorry for making questions so long, but I hope I will find some complete answers...
Thank you all

Hi, The kjam and o2 minis are almost identical in appearance, apart from badging. The quality is about the same - so you should not be dissapointed there.
As far as I know the kjam rom should work fine as long as the mini s is unlocked.
Sorry cant awnser other q's as i have a qtek - i use headphones from orange spv = they are good.

Thank you for ur reply,
you gave me a push forward, and I hope that O2 manufacturer is as good as imate..Thanks again
but what about other questions?? any answers guys??
Thanks in advance

Hi guys,
I don't want to be so annoying, but it seems that nobody here has exact answers for my questions..
But, Does any body have useful links about those questions??
Any Ideas, opinions are very very welcome.
Thanks All and happy mobile phones day

Hi There,
I use a "modified" Xda Mini s that was O2 - I now use this rom: K-JAM_WWE_216901_2169101_020710_ship.zip - it's in english but certainly works fine and is much better on battery life - sound during calls is better and the signal strength appears improved.
It also removes all traces of O2 software. But you will need to unlock the phone using one of the unlock programmes readily available through this site. (All at your risk!!)
As regards to headsets - if you purely want to listen to music/podcasts then you can't beat those soft in ear headphones from sony IMHO - you will need to buy a jack step down adapter as the jack is smaller on the XDA than standard headphones. You can also do as I do and dowload an send audio to bluetooth program (I use BluetoothAudio) and at the touch of the screen it will send your sounds to your bluetooth headset - it will send music also but obviously you will only have mono hearing. Great for Podcasts as it still allows you to use the phone or answer incoming calls but doesn't have any annoying cables from or to it.
Hope this helps - just ask if you require any other information.
Regards,
Chris

Hi again,
Thanx for all the ones that tried to answer my questions
I need to ask some additional questions and I choose this topic to ask my questions coz I dont want to create many new topics, so the forum will not become bulky
1. What does the Extended ROM mean? why is it called extended?
2. I found in the ftp site Arabic Extended ROM for kjam, does this ROM enable the english versoin of kjam to read and write arabic text?? can it be installed on my XDA miini S device having O2 ROM on it (I want to enable arabic text on it)?????
3. I have not received my xda yet... but just a question, how is the mp3 sound quality of the XDA mini s (for example, compared with Sony Ericson K750i mp3 quality)? and can the Windows Media Player play WMA files with variable bit rate??
Thanx all

Please Help

Hi Guys,
I was wondering if you could answer my questions, I have an XDA II with the latest O2 Rom, i also have a Nokia HS-4W bluetooth headset, i wanted to know if it was possible to be able to listen to mp3 or my tomtom Instructions through my bluetooth headset? I love my XDA II but i would love it even more if this was possible, i am suprised O2 didnt include this in their new ROM.
I would appreciate any advice or any URL's that show you can this can be done,
As always thanks in advanced
Kind Regards
nya
Hi,
I don't want to spoil your XDAII experience, but unfortunatley that is not possible... yet...
Huge steps have been made by several good and experienced users on this regard, but there's still a long way to go...
Please use the Search feature, because there are several places in this excelent forum that discuss this and similar issues...
Good luck!
Rayan
Its the biggest disappointment with the xda 2, I thought I would be able to use bluetooth headset dialling, music etc but it seems it is beyond the capability of those that write the firmware/software to make this possible. I have no idea why this should be as many phones and pda's have this capability.
Thank you for your reply .... its ashame this is not possible...
with the right bluetooth stack it would be possible not in cd quality because of the speed of bluetooth but pretty good anyway
otherwise you could use something like this
http://www.ppcsg.com/forums/viewtop...t=iphono&sid=6d3d546329a09353b6817f1c28cdca86
do you know where i could get the right Bluetooth Stack from ?
with the headset i linked to you dont need a new bluetooth stack
i dont think the current vidcomm bluetooth stack support A2DP which is required for at least stereo sound
this upcomming stack looks like it will support it

Thanks for your help Rudegar, much appreciated.

Calling all XDa IIi owners...OPINIONS PLEASE

I had my XDA II stolen at gatwick airport last week (sniff sniff) and am now looking to replace it.
From the complete range of HTC PDA's the XDA IIi seems to be tickling my fancy the most but I haven't really come across a single comprehensive review.
So are people who have purchased it happy?
Whilst I am aware that there are problems with the camera I can live with it as long as it is not worse than the XDA II .
So what say you O Ye owners of the IIi?
Cheers!
I got mine last week and I'm honestly torn...
The camera is CR*P, completely so! But as I never used the one on the XDA2 for more than the odd picture message and photo record I'm not particularly bothered - though it's a cheek for O2 to pronounce it as a major step forward when in many ways it's a regressive one.
My major headache is the IR and Bluetooth...IR seems even worse now than on the XDA2 - unless I'm missing something - and the BT stack currently on my phone means I cannot use the O2 BT clip headset (made by iTech) due to this (in my opinion) stupid handsfree obsession. Surely it would be a good idea to have a headset AND a handsfree option that WORKS. I understand on some headsets it works a treat, but given I've got one being sold by O2 on their website I would normally assume it would work.
That said, the 2i is a great phone in itself and if I weren't already spoilt having had the XDA and XDA2 before it, I would be in absolute amazment.
They've finally managed to get the o2activeui thing in a state which isn't too bad and I may even consider keeping it - though it's harder to remove than in the past.
If you have to upgrade which it sounds as though you do given your circumstances, I'd choose the 2i over the 2s...at least the 2i is a better phone spec wise though without the keyboard (gimmick if you ask me).
Hope this helps (helped me to have the rant, anyway).
Cheers
Anthony
Thanks for the feedback Anthony. One thing that's slightly irritating me is a few places i've visited on the net state how previews often have some of the specs wrong on the O2 site it states that the IIi has 128MB SDRam and 128MB Flash......is this accurate?
Have you tried out the Wifi and if so what d'you reckon?
Does the faster processor make a noticeable difference? e.g on my XDA II I was running loads of today plug ins as well as several applications by default I'd do a soft re-set at least once a day
As for the IIs even though when I compare the II and the IIs side by side it doen't appear that much bigger it still has a bulky-ish look about it and I just don't find it appealing enough to contemplate a purchase.
Your feedback on the above would be appreciated
Cheers
This is on the box...
96MB ROM
128MB SDRAM
I have tried out the Wi-Fi and it seems OK to me, certainly it's a welcome feature. However I don't have a Wi-Fi card that I can compare experiences on...all I know is I didn't have one before and now I have a wi-fi connection. That can't be bad.
I don't have enough stuff loaded onto the phone to make a judgment on the processor. With the 2 I had lots of things running such as WeatherPanel and KitaraGenesis - also at one point Pocket Plus. From what I've seen so far the 2i does feel a bit faster...there's also a Turbo feature which does seem to further increase performance.
The 2i is exactly the same size I think, perhaps a smidge heavier. Having said that, if you compare most mobiles these days, the XDA series is no longer heavier than the majority. Besides, if you've got a PDA phone you're not expecting it to be light as a feather.
As I said previously, now you've got no option I would definitely go to the 2i...
Cheers

As to theWiFii hadaXDA2 witha SandiskWiFi Card, then changed to the XDA2s, then after 4 replacements i now have a XDA2i, ifind the XDA2i range and speed of reconnecting to WiFi very very good, the XDA2s worked as well asthe XDA2 + SD WiFi Card.
I like the 2ivery much, only problem is i gave away all my XDA2 bits when i got the 2s, so now i have lots of bits for a phone i dont have and a 2i with no spair bits, got i wish i haddent got rid of my old XDA2 bits
i still soft rest a few times aday, but i am used to donigthis now and dont have a problem doing it, The Bluetooth for headsets (jabbra 250) works as well on the 2i as it did on the old XDA2, where as the 2s was total crap
John
4 replacements???!!! care to elaborate?
Applecom, how do you find the camera?
Has the bluetooth improved at all? With my XDA II I also has a Jabra BT250 whilst I found it excellent at close range as soon as the device was in (or out) the metal proporta case and in my pocket I got alot of static...also can you now hear the different ringtones in your bluetooth headset or is it still the same generic one?
Finally, if I get the phone from O2 with their minimum line rental fee it works out to about 407 quid in total....anyone know of any cheaper places?
Thanks for the feedback once again guys.
After hearing about the new XDA2s i purchased a sim free PDA2k, but the microphone on it was crap and the bluetooth (headset) range was like 6 inches after that it sounded terrible.
So as soon as we could get a UK XDA2s we did ( we are a small phone shop) i got it sim free, This was just as crap as the PDA2k, Sothen i did a upgrade to a XDA2s with o2 Select, and of corse this was crap as well
(by crap i mean the mic was terrible people had problems hearing me, and the bluetooth headset only worked if you held the phone next to it, as a PDA it was sort of alright)
so after speaking to o2 about its problems and the fact the keybopard soon comes loose, it was changed probley every 2-3 weeks, never any better for phopne calls but of corse a new one the keyboard is still tight (for a while)
anyway after the 6th phone (4th o2 replacement) i changed it to a XDA2i
The camera in the XDA2i just gives a bigger crap picture, but at leat i can make phone calls on this one and people can hear me, and i dont have to drive down the road with my bluetooth ear piece in and have to hold the phone to the ear piece to use it
John
dear oh dear.....thats the strongest case i've EVER heard for NOT buying a phone...
Not to get on your nelly but can you now hear the different ringtones in your bluetooth headset or is it still the same generic one?
Cheers
Leroy
bump
my jabra 250 just makes the ring sound, just like on the old XDA2, no personalised ring tones, despite using IA Caller 1.2
Thank you all for the info
Does the movie function work better?
I know the camera makes a bigger "crap" photo but how is the video? On my XDAII, with all the today plug in's, the thing records crap even at the best settings. With a fresh ROM and nothing installed, I can get a decent video if I set the refresh rate and set it to daylight, (even for night shots), but after I install some programs, no settings can keep it from being choppy and slow or keep the sound in sync with the video.
Believe it or not, the video function, as bad as it is, actually saved my ass from going to jail.. If the XDA2i has better video performance, and it sounds like the BT is better, I want one... Is there any place besides eBay and O2?
Could someone tell us what version of the BT stack it is?
Any body try it with two serial ports yet? (One for a GPS and one for a Printer or POS device (like from Merchantanywhere.com).
Thank you for your time.
the bt stack on my xda2i is 1.0.0.3900
Mine is also 1.0.3900 and I can't use o2's bt clip headset with it....refuses to play ball yet others work fine.
Grrrrr
Need an update to sort this out.
By clip do you mean the earpiece, with a foot of wire then a clip on bluetooth reciever? If you do O2 sent one of them out to me but as i use a jabra 250 i never tried the clip thing.
Would you like me to try it with my XDA2i (also version 3900)
John
Have you made a decision on a purchase yet?
I have both an XDAII and an XDAIIi and would be willing to give some comparitive information regarding them. Or try to answer any specific questions you have about them.
On another note, what alternatives do we have here with regard to a Windows Mobile device?

What's the flap about the ROM upgrade?

Sucessfully downloaded and installed the WWE imate ROM on their web site and reinstalled all apps without any problem.
Maybe I am too quick to conclusions, but I noticed NO CHANGE AT ALL!!!
Bluetooth is exactly as before, call quality is unchanged, the *&^%* Jam still cannot send anything by Infrared and worse, the Camera quality is now worse than pre patch!
Overall not a bad upgrade really, just a waste of time and effort!
I finally got all my apps installed as well. Wasn't easy. And to sum it all up, I didn't notice any discernable differences. Sound quality is the same. Stability is the same.
Anyone know what fixes and updates were supposed to be included in the update? Or did anyone find anything at all to be any different?
The only thing I can tell that it did was make my mp3's sound horrible. Very muddy sounding. I'm about to odwnload pocket music and see if the eq on there can fix it. Also looking for a way to downgrade.
Question for you imaters:
I had an imate for 3 weeks and sent it back to Amazon, bought the MDA Compact instead.
T_mobile has no support for this phone : they built correctly the first time
BT Active Sync with PC, no problem, but I never managed this with Imate
BT with GPS, worked with both IMATE & MDA
The MDA rom is stable, has good sound, photo's are ok, like all HTC devices.
So why not just leave Imate and change to the MDA UK Rom??

This makes sense as the operators often do a fair amount of the own device QA, change requests, etc. when they look at any new device. If they don't, they pay for it in customer support. Imate being a relatively new company has yet to prove whether or not it has the same structured approach to their product management. I tell you one thing, Imate will certainly not have the same amount of resources available to them nor will they have as much attention from HTC. That said there is a lot to be said for not being an operator when it comes to efficiency (but that is a different story). Enough editorial...
Does anyone know what the major differences are between the new imate ROM and the current MDA UK ROM? Has anyone used both and/or done a side by side comparison? Does it work on other networks? I'd be interested to hear more.
Ian Wood
I had both
I had both and the major difference lay in the sound and the Bluetooth. Which is why I sent the Imate back.
Besides that, I have had an XDA1, XDA2, and the mda is the most stable rom yet (though the 2003 SE was pretty good on XDA2)
Also price, Imate =389GBP, Amazon, MDA=240GBP, given that it works better, it was a no brainer here.

Is that with regards to stability and quality or are there more features as well? In your estimation, is the difference worth a full reinstall? Thanks for the feedback btw.
Ian
imho the new rom is NOT worth a hard reset and all the reinstalling/reconfiguring/resyncing that goes with it.
to be blunt, I cannot see the difference unless I REALLY go looking for it.
I did the upgrade no problems, and my sound quality is a bit better. (less tinny) I recommend that if you do the upgrade use a quality backup program like sprite backup. I simply restored my previous backup over this upgrade and it went smoothly. I understand a fresh start is also sometimes preferable for for testing and If no problems, then I stick with this. If I start having difficuties then I'll reboot. The reduced hassles makes the 20-30 bucks for sprite backup worth it.

where is the ROM for JAM WWE???
Click here to download the Arabic ma_cdlsku2_arb_10300_141_10100_ship.exe (29 MB) or
Click here to download the Italian ma_cdlsku10_ita_10304_151_10100_ship.exe (26 MB) or
Select HTTP or FTP link to download the USA ROM ma_cdl_10600_150_11000_ship.exe (46 MB)
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok my iMate JAM has this under device info:
ROM: 1.03.00 WWE
Radio: 1.01.00
ExtROM: 1.03.143WWE
But looking at the iMate website I cannot see a WWE ROM... can I use the USA ROM or should I wait for the WWE ROM?
Cannot get a ROM
I have tried following the link that everyone has for the ROM at:
ClubIMate . . .
ma_cdlsku1_wwe_10300_143_10100_ship.exe
ma_cdlsku2_arb_10300_141_10100_ship.exe
But I get Page Cannot Be Displayed.
My previous experience with I-Mate, having bought a used JAM, was that I now had to buy a membership and get an ID and Password to get anything.
Does anyone have the file OFF SITE from the club, or does anyone have a password, yada yada?
Barring all that, has anyone built a better ROM than that? Is there a kitchen available for it?
And anyone looking for themes I am selling a collection of mine on eBay and offer to sell 6 for the price of 3 to anyone that references xda-developers . . . I hope you like.

I-Mate Jam Vs. Other Phones

Hello People,
Last Year, i bought the Nokia 6630, wicked phone but too big for me, i like everything small, compact and stylish and i was starting university in September - my program is already giving me a wireless networked laptop - so i was looking to buy something new, so i thought why not go for a pda and a phone but then i was like why all the hassle and why not just invest in a good pda phone which will include mp3 player, video player and an organizer. I'm really interested in the I-Mate Jam. I'm going to India and Saudi in about 15 days and will be back by Sept. 1 - So people, don't suggest me to buy something which is coming out End of Sept. I have some questions - Can Someone please answer them? Thank You. (P.S : I'm a newbie in Pocket Pc)
1) What would be the perfect bluetooth headset for this pda? (i was looking at the Sony Ericsson HBH-662 - if there's anything better out there, please do give me your suggestions.
2) I noticed the camera quality sucks, is there any upgrade or software fix for this?
3) Any Imate Jam Users, can you please tell me how you like this device and if it has any problems whatsoever. (Software or Hardware Problems) In Other Words, Do You Guys Love / Like / Dislike / Hate the device? Does It do everything you want it to do?
4) Can some of you tell me what are some really popular and useful applications for these devices? (Since i'm in here, i could get the cracked apps - so can someone tell me some really good apps to get it)
5) What could be an ideal WiFi SD Card (Cheap, Good Quality & Works Properly without any problems & Shouldn't Stick Out)
6) What are some good accessories i should be looking at?
7) Is there an upgrade possible to the Windows Mobile 5.0?
Also, Can we put nice wallpapers on the jam ?
9) Can We Set Mp3s as Ring Tones & Use our own customized Sms Tones like the Nokia's?
10) Can I play full screen movies on the pocket pc - like use smart movie just like i did for Nokia 6630?
11) How is the mp3 sound quality on the Jam? (This is a very important factor to me - i'm talking about the original headphones which come with the Jam Unit - how are they? - also, i'm aware of the 2.5mm to 3.5 mm jack so please dont tell me about that - im just wondering about the original head phones? when compared to the headphones for example Nokia 6630)
12) Any other suggestions, I'd really appreciate.
I guess that's my questions for now. If you could answer them, it'd be great - i'd really appreciate the time. Thank You
You can find almost all answers here by using the search.
alright, thanks - if i have any further questions, i'll ask
Jam doesn't have Wi-Fi built in.
No 3GP upgrade.
WM2005 is not available.
Photo Contacts is buggy.
SPB Software is a great Package for this Application including Resco Products.
I'd choose a JAM over a Nokia, this phone is just too power packed to pass.

Touch HD microphone in use with normal headphones + general questions

Hi all - finally my first post,
today i ordered my touch hd
After looking trough some threads i came to the conclusion that i should install davideuck's ROM and getmyself MS Voice Command 1.6 - anything i forgot for a good start?
Now, i've still got some questions and wondered if you might help me along:
- Does the phone's microphone work when headphones are attached? I'd like to use Sennheiser CX300 to listen to music but wondered if i have to unplug them every time i get a call.
- Has anyone of you tried InvisibleShield for the touch hd, and if yes, is it worth the money? (never used invisibleshield but looks kinda nice)
- After browsing the accessories board i liked the idea of having an usb dockingstation - any recommendations?
- What about Podcasts? I had the HTC Prophet (XDA Neo) for a while and didn't like the MobileCenter Filesynchronisation (only had the choice to synch all files or none)... - are there any changes to this? Or which software do u use to download and synch podcasts?
- Another annoying thing of my prophet was, that i couldnt deactivate gprs "forever", it always asked to connect; so the question is: if apps want to use inet or i formyself, is it possible that they only "work" when wlan is connected - without having them asking for any other inet connection? (i simply cant pay them...)
Thank you in advance & best greetings.
p.s.: excuse my english :/
