Last night I installed the latest ROM from i-mate (my first ROM update ever)...boy was I nervous, but very cautious.
All went smoothly without glitches! Everything seemed fine all day, no hiccups or soft-resets needed. So I thought I'd 'stress-test' the jasjar a bit. So far, I have the following only installed:
Spb Pocket Plus 3.0.1
CA eTrust Antivirus for Pocket PC
DigYs Billiard Master 2
TCPMP The Core Media Player
Resco Radio (Streaming Internet Radio)
**All of the following are currently running:
Wi-Fi is on and active (streaming music and surfing web simultaneously)
Contacts
Internet Explorer (using Wi-Fi)
Word Mobile
Pictures & Videos (Photo slideshow)
Spb Pocket Plus 3.0.1
TCPMP The Core Media Player
Resco Radio (Streaming Internet Radio)
Using my memory indicator on Spb, it reads: 3.8 or 7% available!!!
Is it just me, or isn't this pretty good, considering how many apps are running?
System performance has not degraded either. Just as slow as ever!!! But not any slower!
Whilst typing this, I have had an increase in memory, up to 5%! Everything is still running; movie in one application with sound and streaming music at the same time. Forgive me, I'm going on, but there seems to be more to this picture than, either we know, or we are talking about. The Jasjar is performing fine for what it is and maybe because of it's feature set, we have all expected too much from it. It does actually deliver, albeit not as fast as we'd expect given the speed of well established WM2003SE devices.
Your feedback on this will be greatly appreciated, as I am still somewhat confused as to why there was so little memory installed on the Universal in the first place.
All in all, the ROM update/upgrade, so far, seems to be more stable. But then it is still early days.

Sound like a cool app.

It seems that the biggest problem of Jasjar, is memory management, it really let you do nothing with such an unbelivable device, it seems that, after writing to the whole world, expansys, I-mate, various forum, it came out, that HTC, will give a new rom, that will free more than 20 MB to the Jasjar...
When I see it, I'll believe it
trendystyle: That would indeed be most welcome!
Is there any chance a new slimmer ROM would also free up any RAM? I guess I'm hoping the new ROM might load less crap at start up which might save a little room on the RAM.
galt, That's about the only way that RAM could be freed up.
A slimmer ROM, or at least a better compiled ROM...

Right, I mean, is not said, that I need skype, it's great, but with the RAM in the Jasjar, 4,56MB are far too many to be wasted, they should give a cd apart, and if you want, you install it, if not, you keep your 4 and a half MB free, same story for the antivirus, and backgamon.
Still, I believe that most of the SW, were developped on WM2003 basis and experience, for sure, there will be a better way, to develop on WM 5, using less ram...
In the future, developers of WM5, will have for sure to keep care of that...
Yep, it might take a while though...
It isn't too difficult to get things working on WM5, but optimising them is a bit trickyer especially if you're essentially starting with a WM2003 product and trying to 'tweak' it.
Like you say, when people start developing primarily for WM5, I'm sure we'll see more stable and better optimised software...

I believe as soon as WM5 devices will hit massively the market, with the sale of some hundred thousands devices, as everybody knows, the demand raise the offer, still, WM 5 is too young O.S., developpers, have to invest in time and money on something that will give a medium term revenueI remember when XP came out, we had to wait a while, before seeing dedicated applis, and not sidegraded applications from Windows 98
Exactly, fingers crossed for some good WM5-specific software soon!
And here's hoping that SBSH are one of the first with a spanking-new WM5 version of their product. ContactBreeze is hard for me to live without, and PocketBreeze still isn't quite perfect (but then I am using a beta release).

But Jasjar is the maximum, it has a maximum price, and I want maximum performances

Trendystyle, i think you need to go n find yourself a dirt bike or a road bike, and stop buying the cross over. If you want something that is the best, buy the specialised product, if you want something that does a bit of everything, but nothing well, buy a cross over device.
Settle, be supportive and contribute knowledge, there is no point connecting just to whinge for whinging sake, if we wanted that we'd be talking to our wives instead of typing here.
I too was originally really really "upset" about HTC not upgrading the XDAII, in the end, arguing and spewing didnt get me one step further, but this forum, the knowledge skill and ability of those around allowed me to hack, tweak, rebuild, reformat and structure a device that suited everything I needed and wanted.
I am sure in due course, this forum will do it again. So if you havent got anything nice to say about it, say something to improve it, dont just come here to whinge.

No, probably not.
Hi guys, got a question for all of the genius heads out here,
Is it possible to downgrade Prophet to 2003 SE, let’s say using Magicians rom? Will the RUU work at all? It probably will return error “Wrong Rom supplied”? I don’t want to try it just in case it will reflash my device and then would not boot at all!
But got to tell you, this Prophet is way to slow because of this stupid OMAP Processor! I can’t believe that HTC put out a newer model of the phone and downgrade it the processor! Plus this WM 5 OS is slow as a turtle! I don’t care for it at all! So I was wondering if I can put WM 2003 SE in my Prophet and hope it would work a little faster.
Do you guys think it could work? Please let me know what you think. And yes, I’m using the OMAP Overclocker, it brings up to 240 and still 10 times slower then Magician! Takes forever to boot, and to do anything!
Yes, well... I guess that's the trade off for permanent storage and flash rom instead of putting it all in super fast ram.
it's definitely sluggish compared to my older Dopod 700 (BlueAngel) but definitely gets better battery life and I can keep more apps open in the RAM I have.
I don't think you'll have any luck installing WM2003 since it is RAM-based.
I could, of course, be wrong. But I don't think so.
OMAP850 195MHz is better than intel 400MHz as when you compare 1.5G PIV and 2.4G Celeron. . Windows mobile 5 always slow but benefit is good.
Forget it, man. It is no WM2003 for Prophet. Magician has different hardware so has to be different software. I have Imate JAM before and I compare my new S200 and old JAM. S200 reboots after soft reset much longer, but work faster than JAM, no doubts about. OMAP overclock starts after WM5 complete reboot process, so overclocking have no effect for boot time. I don’t see any reasons to soft reset my S200 every week after I complete installations all extra software. As result, long reboot process doesn’t bother me to much.

I though so. To bad. I’m sure 2003 would of ran pretty smooth on Prophet. But I don’t see how OMAP 200 is better and faster then PXA. I tried watching a movie in avi or divx or mpeg with high and low video and audio quality. Not that it is a movie theater for me, but pretty nice option on the road. And got to completely different results. Where it runs smooth like dvd quality on Magician and is just plain turtle on the Prophet. And overall performance in various applications in WM 5 invirment is pretty slow. Just plain disappointed. Thinking about buying Atom. Do you guys think WM 5 would work better on PXA ?
Whish rom is faster Qtek or imate? is there a Russian rom
Another question, I’ve experimented with original German rom on my Prophet and now I have i-mate rom 2.13. 9.23 WWE Radio 02.20.21 Some of you guys have qtek, what do you guys say, if you experimented with it of course, which rom is better as far as speed concern? May be I just should change my roms? And hey, is there a russian rom available for prophet, or maccentre is the only option right now? Maccentre doesn’t translate everything in WM 5 though.. But its close.. Thank you!
aleksandr, if your Prophet is 10 times slower than the Magician take it back to the shop because there must be something wrong with it!
I had the JAM for a year and excluding videos (I did not bother to test) the Prophet is at least as fast as the JAM. With many apps open the JAM would also slow down considerably, while with the Prophet open applications do not impact the performance at all!
Plus, the Prophet/Wm5 combo is far more stable than the Jam/2003se combo. Everyone had to soft reset ever now and then with the JAM while almost no one has to reset the Prophet for weeks!

Hi, thank you very much for your time and reply. I really appreciate it. Do you think it could be the problem with some applications having compatibility issue with WM 5?
I’m running all the latest applications (freshly downloaded from developers sites) including Pocket Plus, Pocket Breeze, and WisBar Advance. My phoneAlarm wouldn’t run though. I’m using Hudson Mobile Dashboard. These are the applications that are always in memory. And of course OMAP Overclocker set at 240Mhz anything over hangs the prophet. Browsing through the phone lets say with Resco Explorer is a pain since its loading files for 3 minutes even with all sys files and extensions hidden option. Build in File Explorer got the same problem. Tried Commander, same results.. And I can forget about playing the video for example, I shut down WisBar Advance, as it is impossible to use anything else along with it cuz the speed is just way too slooow, and still results are much worst then Magician I have no idea what’s causing it I don’t think it’s a hardware problem, as far a malfunction concern. I guess its either ROM or just it’s the way WM 5 is.. I tried german Rom as well as a i-mates rom. Should I go with Qtek or Dopod may be? Thank you guys for your time and advice!

aleksandr,
The Prophet is my first PPC so I cannot compare speeds with previous versions. However I regularly watch videos on it.
First of all, do not use Media Player bloatware, but TCPMP. Second, it can handle PC-quality AVI's, albeit with certain quality settings it will be slow. However it's a waste, why watch a 700Mb 624x352 video when your PPC's resolution is max 320x240? I use a program to re-encode it to that resolution without any loss of quality in audio or video, it comes down to 300Mb and it works like a dream on the Prophet.

Hi, thank you very much for the reply. I really appreciate your input! As I hear about you all experience, it helps me to make up my mind about this prophet. I actually already have it on the ebay for 3 days and still double guessing. I was thinking about going for Atom, but if you guys can share your experience and help me believe in this prophet I’ll keep it and won’t spend bunch of money on Atom. Plus I just love the design of Prophet! Especially this black mate finish
Any way, for video converting I used DVD to pocket PC, Pocket DVD Wizard, Doctor Divx, XiliSof converter, AVM Movie maker, PQ DVD, DESET video maker, microsofts windows media video converter plug-in, Smart video Converter and few others, I used the 240x320 resolution my self with 256 to 700 k sound compression (about 300 to 600 mb) in any case with every program I get pretty much same results, nice and smooth on magician and distorted-like quality on prophet What would you recommend in such a case scenario?

I have Resco Explorer installed on my Prophet and it's as fast as it gets. I would suggest you take a backup of your device, do a hard reset and install just Resco Explorer. Leave it running for a few days and see how it goes. If you're satisfied with the performance, start installing more applications ONE AT A TIME, allowing at least a day to test the performance after installing each individual program.
I'm pretty sure that the problem you have with performance has to do with 3rd party software.
slow prophet
thank you. I tried that few times. nothing seems to stand out.. it seems slow with any program installed just by it self its still much much slower then magician and I'm just trying to find a way to either speed it up, by configuring it right.. or just see if its just slow pda..
aleksandr,
I have russian WM5 interface translator from Paragon (not sure). It coms with my Qtek S200. I have no idea how good or bad it is because I remove it and never use it. If you do like to try it, let me know and I'll send it to you.
recently i have found really nice piece of software for our beloved toys - BatteryStatus today plugin, which has some interesting features, such as showing current battery charge, available memory, network name and also call time and SMS counter. more information and downloads are on author's website and Prophet forum:
http://www.chi-tai.info/cs_BatteryStatus_XDA_Neo_WM5_iM_cs.htm
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=270751 (MASSIVE thread!)
i've started using it few days ago, but i noticed that it does not count outgoing call times right, while message counter works fine. author of BS replied that he never got that issue reported, so i'm thinking it may be some kind of hardware-related problem with Hermes/TyTN only. author also said that he got one complain about rebooting problems from Hermes user, however i didn't notice anything like that.
since mentioned thread is too big to check it up quickly, i thought it will be good idea to set up separate thread on TyTN forum, so anyone could install BS and test it and that way give feedback to developer.
please report your observations on BatteryStatus below in this thread. TIA.
I will test it tonight, it looks great.
I take it this will still only report in increments of 10%?

no, it will not. A future rom upgrade will hopefully fix it, but no application will do it as the 10% increments are reported by the OS power management functions which all the battery reporting tools query to show you the status.
So it works normally, but for CPU Speed it 300Mhz is that Normal?

Might be wrong so dont quote me
But does the CPU not slow down if not being used ? so maybe would show 300Mhz at certain times ?
I don't know, that's why I am asking.
Did somebody else test the program?
I'll install it tomorrow and report back my initial findings and/or bug reports... Getting a replacement TyTn sometime next week, as I've started to had microphone issues, so I'll have a chance to test on two devices
I forgot to post my comments! Oops :X
Might as well bump this thread cause imo it's worth it
Well, it's installed on my Hermes, and it's working perfectly - no spontaneous reboots (yet!), loads of stuff displayed, and it all just.. works. Perfect. Using v.04.200 build 0171.

Yes, works with no problems at all.
I liked the software, but my phone was having stability issues so it had to go.
The power consumption report was most interesting and now I know to keep IE closed and that turning the back light down from level 2 brightness to level 1 uses half the power, hopefully doubling the battery life
I'm using LVSW 19-5-07 ROM (WM6) but can't blame this BatteryStatus for the issues I was having, but things have improved since. I also had a number of other programs in the Today screen, so may have been an odd combination...
Ciao! Oggy.
This is excellent software.. i have worked with ikarus on some of the fixes for hermes... and would suggest anyone who is going to download this to get it from the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=270751 instead of from his site... the old version used to report a 300Mhz cpu.. this has since been fixed.. i have had issues with it counting anything outgoing, sms, call's, data, etc... But its very nice software...
here is a program i got from the htc webiste to overclock a 8125. i tried it on my t-mobile wing and it works fine. it overclocks up to 300+mhz but 240mhz is most stable.
there is a pretty significant increase in response time after running the program.. simply install on your device>>run the program>>>select speed>>>then hit action>>set clock and presto instant speed
HAs anyone else done this?
Has anyone used this on their P4350 yet? I don't want to wreck my brand new Herald so I wanna know if anyone else has used this to overclock a P4350
Doug M.
--------------
Use the BatteryStatus Plugin can be found in the Prophet forum and was also dicussed here in the Herald forum. It has many more functions plus a much advanced overclocking tool
Hi, I'm rather new to all this. I need a little help. I've installed the soft from idondysh to overclock my herald. It actually works ok. It however doesn't stay overclocked. Any suggestions? Do I need to leave the software active for the herald to remain overclocked?
Exactly, OMAPclock has to run constantly if you want your device to stay overclocked.
has anyone experienced any drawbacks after overclocking>>?
yes... you get addicted to the speed...
it will shorten the lifespan of the processor... but really.. r u planning on using it another 6-10 yrs? didn't think so.
I am very new to this phone... I've been reading around here the last couple days trying to figure this thing out!
Once installing this program, or any other, how can I make sure it's always running?
Thanks!

Huge drain in batterylife is the biggest side effect you will face.
I want to overclock my 8525 as it's really been slow lately, and I've read a lot of threads about PocketHackmaster not working correctly and xcpu scaler not being correct for our CPU, etc, etc.
But I came across some good feedback on the HTC Performance cab working very well on Apache and some other HTC phones to make them work a lot faster with little noticable drop off on battery life, and I wanted to see if anyone knows if this overclocking cab will work safely on our 8525's before I tinker with it (I don't want to risk a hard reset).
Thanks.

If you search on google, you can find there are a few posts saying you shouldn't be doing this, if you want to have a longer battery and a longer life of your device. If you want to upgrade in the next 3 to 6 months why not, try it out. Here is the file, ... I would not go near it, happy enough to use my current ROM the way it is.
Check this post what it did to the kaiser.
Here is the cab for those who's willing to try.
Edit, don't bother it doesn't work, the mod has advised if you look at the post and the rest of the thread above.

Where's the thread info for this HTC Performance cab? If it workes on hermes, then I'd have thought we would have heard about it? I would say don't do it based on this thread....

I did a Google search on overclocking after going thru XDA first, and came across this thread on PPC Geeks: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=11573
I've tried xpu scaler before and didn't see any difference (and subsequently read a couple threads saying it wasn't made for the Samsung CPU in our 8525's), so I wanted to see if there was another one out there that could reliably upgrade the speed of the 8525.
I may give this one a whirl and let you know unless anyone has any other suggestions on one I should try instead...
Ok, so I've been running this HTC Performance cab for a few days now on my 8525, and I definitely think it's running smoother with it on (I was just messing around turning it on and off and went to the same programs, etc, and I see a noticable difference in how fast things are opening and closing)
I have it set on 520 mhz 'maximal cpu speed', with 'enable dynamic cpu frequence changing' checked
I haven't had a chance to check battery life as I was playing around most of yesterday installing a new spb pocket plus program and messing with adding icons, etc, but I'll report back and let you know if I notice anything different with battery life as well.

Here is the cab for those who's willing to try.

forgive me but how do you install this cab or how do you work it just to try it you know please get back to me
I installed it on my Dopod 838pro running Schaps 4.30 yesterday.
Nothing happened for a while.
No menu or shortcut to activate the speed up either.
When I got home last night, the Dopod is practically dead!
It would power on & flicker out before it completely boots up.
Luckily, I had my firiend's old Dopod in my drawer.
Took a charged battery from the spare and my 'bricked' Dopod came to life.
But died again later that night.
Hard resting it did no good either.
Looks like it flattens the battery & then refuses to charge it!
Today, I put another freshly charged battery, booted it and flashed in Satin Normal.
Right now, it is connected to my notebook and when turned on shows the battery as slowly charging. Hope it stays fixed!
I recommend all folks avoid this patch!
Stay tuned!
Phew!
After waiting anxiously overnight, it appears that re-flashing my ROM (from Schaps 4.30 to Black Satin Normal) seems to have fixed my problem.
Battery is still at 90%!
