Minor prblem with muting - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

Hi guys!
Since yesterday i'ver got xda mini (known as magician).
If i mute the device i can still hear a clicking on events which should play a sound.
... for example the following scenario
- magician is muted
- by pressing the startbutton the speaker on the backside makes a small 'click'.. it seems, that it is switched on and off quickly?
do you have the same 'problem'?
for me it isn't a real problem but i just wanted to check if everything is allright with my nice piece
best regards cman

i hear the click.. also by selecing "off" after tapping on icon volume

Hi!
Thanks for testing. I think, that it is normal and that only the audio hardware is starting and stopping

SpeakerPhone - How to Activate?

Hey,
I am under the impression the i-Mate JAM/XDA Mini etc have speakerphone ability (to listen to a call on loudspeaker). However I cant find how to do this.
It certainly should be possible, as when I play music its very loud. Ok, the quality may not be great on loudspeaker, but good enough for a phone call.
Regards,
Jez.
If it's the same as all the other devices, hold down the green answer button during a call and hey presto- speakerphone!
HTH
Fin
Yeah,
just hold the green button for a while ,but I must say it's pretty useless.....
:?
I can hardly hear the other party in speaker phone mode. Moreover, I think that it is a design flaw to put the speaker on the back of the device.
I am looking for a application that can activate speakerphone. without using the green-button.
Is there any such?
Did you ever find a solution to this, (to set the speakerphone through a API) ?
funny
so funny, ive been using my phone (XDA II) for almost a month now, but try to use the speaker phone just today. after i read this thread. heheheh
tnx guys... this means alot to me.. lol^^

Speaker call not loud

on a I-mate jam it's possible to turn on speaker while calling so you can speak "handsfree".
This can be done by holding down the green call button.
When I do this the sounds of the speaker is de same as normal only the sounds comes from the back of the phone instead of the front.
Does anybody know how to fix this? A friend of mine has the same phone without a problem.

Have you tried while you are on the speakerphone mode to make the volume slider higher?
That ain't gonna help you. This is a known - and unsolved problem with the Jam. If you really need a speakerphone, you should return the phone. No amount of firmware/ROM update will help you.
I use the speakerphone option without any problems. The sound is loud and clear. What is this unresolved JAM problem that you're talking about?
Jam speakerphone volume problem
My XDA1 had the best speakerphone I've ever used, including corded phones. I could be in a conferance room with 10 people around the table and everyone could hear, speak and the participate on the phone never had problems with background noise. I have a hard time accepting that next generation technology from the same manufacturer should be woefully inadequate. The unit is advertised as a speakerphone, the solution is to return my phone and purchase another? No thanks friend, anyone reading this with solutions please respond.
I only have the phone for 1 month now so I´ll return it
tnx for the help
I think most of us don't know how to hold the mini in the right way, while the phone is in speaker mode...
if u want to hear a load voice.. make sure that back of the phone faces ur ear..
that' because the mini has 2 speakers... and the one in the back( near the mirror) is loader.. so you will hear the conversation very well...
and BTY.. I suggest u upgrade to the latest ROM available for ur device..
it helped me a lot....
cheers

Wrong - its patently obvious that the sound is coming from from the back speaker. Why on earth it comes frm the back is another question entirely, given that the speaker phone is supposed to free up your hands so you do other things, including multi-task on the device i.e looking at the screen! Every other phone I've had has a decent speakerphone - and they face the front too.
But the main problem is that the volume from the supposed "speakerphone" is too damn low, irregardless of location.
Considering all the huge volumes of prior experience that HTC has (making practically every Microsoft PPC device, smartphones, plus the Palm Treo phone), things like this awful speakerphone on the magician are really not excusable at all.
I went through 3 TREO 600s due to speaker problems. You could barely hear the speaker phone on the 600 either. ANd to top that off, no one could hear you! The JAM is nice, but the more that I use it, the more I wish that either I bought something else or that the the JAM could just work the way it was designed!!!!!!
1.3 Mega pixel camera... my ass! It's the same quality as my first Casio digital camera from '96. Not mention the fact that Imate can't even put a decent ROM update together.
Perhaps we should build our own PPC's!
P.S. PM me if you want the CEO and VP of Imate's e-mail address. I e-mailed them and they actually wrote back! -Of course they weren't very helpful though.
One time, I turned on this speakermode operation on my MDA-Compact, I could hear my phonecall loud and clear from the built-in speaker.... This happenend accidently, probably by pressing just the right button, but I wasn't aware....
I cannot find how to do this again? How can I get the MDA-Compact to operate in speakermode using the built-in speaker?
I'm searching this (and other forums) quite a while now, but I cannot find my solution?!
Any help will be very much appreciated!
Thanks,
Igor.

Phone goes MUTE. Kindly help

Hi everybody,
I have this one problem. After 2 days of usage, my Hermes suddenly went mute. No vibration or screen click can be heard even If I changed it to the loudest. I missed a lot of calls and sms due to this problem. The only way to solve this problem that I employ is by soft-reset my device.
I really hope somebody can help me tracking to root-cause of this problem and in the same time providing or proposing a solution to it.
Kindly help. Regards

did you unmute it from the speaker icon ?
if you have a backup restore it if not do a hard reset just make sure you backup your contacts/ stuff first
Phone goes mute
I think I'm having that problem too. Just out of the blue it happened. Didn't install anything extra the whole week. But when someone calls it rings, and if it's missed, it doens't play the miss call tone... or any other sound in that case.

Hi,
I noticed that the problem started to happen when I long-press the "Green" Button to activate the speakerphone during a call instead of pressing the "Speaker On" menu on the screen.
I've no idea why but maybe that could be the problem. Presently, I have to press that "Speaker On" on-screen menu to activate the speakerphone to avoid this problem.
Maybe other users can confirm this problem.

Got the same issue here and I don't use speakerphone
my pda´s auto mute so
No sound although speaker icon no in mute
I have the same problem. Out of the blue no sound is heard at all. I tried changing volume but it did not do any thing. Had to shut down (not soft reset) and restart device and it works fine. This happen several times and I can figure out why it does this.
If anyone can help...

Same here, I'm using a X01HT Softbank variant TYTN flashed with the latest HTC WWE rom and after about like 12 hours of use the device goes mute for some reason, making calls it works perfectly but playing sounds or ringers the speaker does not work. Anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking of maybe re flashing the device since most of my information is on my storage card. I'll see if that fixes the problem :-\.
same problem here....
Same here. Only a reboot fixes it.
I have the same problem but it only happens when using the speaker phone. After the call ends, then there are no more system sounds etc. I then have to soft reset, which pisses me off as I use the speaker phone plenty in the car.
If i dont use the speakerphone, then there is no problem. Kind of strange....
Has anyone got any ideas on how to solve this?
I have same problem. I thought it was software related, but seems that it is caused by the speaker phone. I had the exact same problem with my old IPAQ 6515. It must be a software issue with WM although the 6515 had WM2003SE and the TYTN has WM5 so I do not know. Really annoying though as I use this phone for an alarm and it never goes off because the sound turns off sometime while I am sleeping - Uhggggg!
I also have the problem. Only a Softreset brings the speaker back to live.
my new problem...misery loves company
same here; curiously 2 pages into this thread and there are no real solutions.
I have solved the problem on my TyTN.
The Midlet Manager is the root cause for the Phone Mute issue on my device.
lol I just started getting this issue out of the blue after a couple of months and I didn't install anything :|
yeah nothing but a soft reset brings the sound back
Happens to me too. Strange coincidence - I've just checked my m3100 and it's giving me the silent treatment now. Time for another soft reset
I never use Midlets, so that rules the above theory out for me. However my battery was almost dead. I was using WiFi at the time, which turned itself off when the warning notifications popped up. Maybe when the battery drops below an acceptable level it turns the sound off to save power, but doesn't restore it after charging?
nope it happens to me even if my battery is fully charged
this used to happen on my i-mate PDA2k, and my JasJar (Universal) running both WM5, AKU3.2, 3.3, 3.5 and unfortunately even WM6 :S
Hi All,
After checking and testing the phone. I found out that the only way for me to solve the muting problem is by silencing the notification sound when a new email arrives. Since I have an unlimited EDGE/GPRS, my push mail is working around the clock. Thus, by not having the new email sound notify, the muting problem gone. This is caused by the notification event locking up the sound and not releasing it even after I read the mail. Previously the only way to resolve is by soft-reset but now, no more.
I have no idea whether this work or not for others but you might try and post your solution here.

New speaker problem

Hello everyone,
first thanks to this great forum! - My first post. I have some problems with my speakers, and since it looks like this is nothing uncommon, I had the hope that I can fix it easily. I found some tricks (paper in the backside, audiojack fix) - but after thinking a little bit it looks like my problem is a little bit more complex.
All in all, my speakers (and my built-in mic) are not working. So for example if I make a call, both will not work so I won't hear anything nor the other person will hear from me.
But if my alarm clock rings or I receive a call, I will hear my ring- and alarm tone from the rear speaker. But I will not hear anything if I try to play music or while choosing the ringtones in my mobile phone. That's what is really wondering me.
Do you have any idea how this problem can happen - and maybe how it can be solved? Using a headset everything works fine.
Best regards and a happy new year 2009

Have you read this:
A summary of common speaker problems with the HTC Prophet
HTC Prophet Speaker Problems mike channon.pdf
Mike
I didn't read this pdf, but I read about these problems, these are the popular ones that doesn't fit. I couldn't solve it with these tips and also the strange thing remains unexplained: If, for example, it would be a audio jack fault, why then it uses the rear speaker for ringtones with incoming calls and the alarm clock? But if it would be A, the speaker is faulty, then it shouldn't work anytime..
I have a feeling it's a (B) - from the PDF ie a Jack Plug Socket problem. The alarms and ringing will come through the rear speaker as is normal but in call sound once the call is answered is not directed to the internal earpiece speaker along with mic sound being directed outward. Of course, what we cannot say for sure is that the earpiece speaker is not faulty. However given that your mic sound is not being directed properly either then the probability is that the sound is not being directed as it should by the jack plug socket.
Having said that there remains for me one issue that is puzzling. That is that the larm and ringing sounds work correctly through the rear loudspeaker, BUT I think you said that playing tunes on WM Player does not?!
Despite the above, and given that the Jack Plug Socket is a "multi-Switching" one, it is the most likely culprit. If you look at the picture of the contacts you can see that there are a few possible incorrect combinations of contacts in which it could be stuck.

Absolutely right, that's the strange thing. And when I want to hear a ringtone preview while choosing the ringtone, it is also not working. The alarm clock and ringtone by incoming calls are the only things where it works - perfect.

Yep, and I tried to do there something, but didn't helped (and it looks like that the mobile doesn't enable the earphone)..
Mmm. if the jack plug socket is fine, then at this distance I have run out of suggestions - sorry!
Mike
Anyway, thank you very much for your help.
But maybe someone knows how the technique of the mobile phone works, how it can happen that only on a special action the sound is working? Can this be a hardware problem (I think so, cause as far as I remember right the problem occured a short time after a deforming crash)? Or is it a software problem, maybe both?
The point that it is working on special events let me think that there should be a software way to solve this problem - cause it looks like there is a different way the sound goes when it is an incoming call or the alarm clock than with normal sound. And so it may be possible to let the normal sound go the way the alarm clock goes?
I'm not a developer, so I don't know about this, but this is something I could imaging.. does anybody now about this more?
Some strange update:
I just downgraded to my original operator firmware with the result, that the sound for the alarm clock is also not working - with this wm 5 version only ringtones with incoming calls are working.
Upgrading again to Wm 6.1 enabled the sound for the alarm clock again.
.. confusing, but it also looks now for me that there should be a software possibility to enable the sound again...

[Solved] Handsfree and waiting through Loud Speaker!

Ok XDA, i have one big/huge/enormous problem,
Scenario:
Talking on the phone, using the Wired Handsfree (which came with the phone), when i get another call (call waiting) the notification of the other call is going through the loud speaker! not only that, the ongoing is immediately routed the loud speaker, anyone near me can hear the conversation clearly!!!!!!
does anyone face this?
i checked it on 2 X1s, 1 black & 1 silver and it's there.
anyway to solve this
same problem for me
I have a similar problem with a Parrok CK3100. The phone can't ever seem to decide for sure what speakers it's supposed to be using.
Sometimes I'll press the Voice Command button on the bluetooth device and the phone speaks out, sometimes the car speakers speak out.
I just don't know.
Annoying that the much, much cheaper E71-2 handles all of this with great aplomb, as did my Q9h.
any one else facing this problem people?
i started searching in order to get a clue,
the main thing i'm thinking is that it's caused the same way VOIP (including skype) used to behave using speaker phone!
what do you think?
I have the same problem with a german x1. ROM R2A.
Is there any solution for this problem
thx
walk
Fixed
Bugs Fixes (Registry):
Sound is routed to the Loud Speaker when having a phone call and get a waiting call while using Handsfree
change the key HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Ring\Speaker to 0 (default value = 1).
added to the wiki of X1
Thanks. I've changed that setting to see if it solves my problem, too.
