Please could someone tell me how the windows logo image (that appears after the boot splash image) can be replaced?
Although there are some threads about how to replace the boot splash image (that normally is operator-related) I couldn't find anywhere how to replace the windows logo. This logo is displayed after the boot image slpash for quite a long time (I think it's even longer that the boot image). I hope that this is so simple that everybody knows how to do it, so please help.
thank you!
Yes I want to know too !!
The utility on buzzdev is only for the Universal (qtek9000)
Yes!!!
I really, really, really would like to understand how to do this too...
I already changed the boot image and i skinned the whole windows mobile 5.0 look, incl. the phone dialer tool.
The only thing that is bothering me is when i reset my qtek 9100, right after my very nice boot image (in black) the stupid blue WM5 apears for a while, only to go back to the black look of my today screen.
So any help would be nice.
Thanks all.
Be happy!
Hello,
I hope you mean this.
The file in the windows directory is: welcomehead.96.png
This file is only diplayed when password is enabled.
Make a new image in Photoshop, imagesize is 320x320.
And save it as welcomehead.96.png
Then copy it to your ppc. and from there copy it into windows.
Good luck
This is the one I use
Too easy...
Man... cau u imagine how much time i spend figuring this one out???? If i only knew it would be so easy.
But after a while one does not remember wich procedures one already tried, so i guess i just changed the file as you said and it worked.
Somehow i thought the file was in ROM and could not be overwriten.
... strange thing
stay well all and many tkx.

Whooooo Thanks a lot , aage !!
Have a Good week
Yoohoo.. it worked. Moving it with File Explorer to the Windows directory didn't work. Installed the free Total Commander and tried again. And succeeded. Changed the properties tot hidden, readonly and system.

my friend...i don't think so that we have a 3rd splash image...if you disable the password you can't see the "welcome image" (3rd image) my friend but nevertheless still you can change it....
its a "welcomehead.96.png" file from windows folder...320x320 pixel image. the files is hidden, so you have to change the folder option to see the files...use the resco file explorer to copy and replaced the files or you have to include it to the splash image changer cab together with two splash1/2.nb files and must be a hardcoded path...
Big thanks...you giving me a valuable idea to upgrade my splash image installer...again thanks....

Yes, you are tooooooooooooooooooo good, may be we can find about it.
Kenny.
I will waiting for your latest version, the orignal one really look like the one when hardware reset the XDA2, so better to change it . Haaaaaa.
 welcome!
My second splash screen (Windows Mobile) has disappeared. ATM only a white screen and fortunately I can boot.
I copied welcomehead.96.png to my PC to see if I can edit it (YES) and back to Wizard \windows folder and still same white one...
Any suggestions (I do'not want to flash or something like that because it takes a lot of time to shapen up the programs installed)
BTW, I have AKU 2.3 Mr. Clean 2.24 ROM. I can't edit extended_rom because of Wizard Extended_Rom 2.xx restrictions (no solution yet, at least I couln't find anywhere, Just Buzz was working on it)
:?:
I had this happen to me too, if you are using your own one, just replace the files again. But if you are not sorry you will have to find someone with that file. I copied it in 2 times and it works ok now!
Find what? an original "welcomehead.96.png file" ?
ya, cus i have changed my, but i did not like it so i did not keep a copy of the one it came with!
(cus the 1st file i put there did not a thing but then the 2nd one said to replace the file and i said yes!)
...It isn't dissapeared. Just delete the new one and voilĂ , there it is: the original.
I myself got a white screen after I installed pocketRSS reader...
Exactly the same program "pRSSreader". After installing it just a white screen. Will give a try to delete.
I have replaced it many times but nothing changed. Deleting might be a solution as yours
I'll post if I manage
Thanx

NOPE, didn't worked for me. I deleted ones, there u go, the original ROM file. but nothing changes.
...only when you uninstall pRSS the whitescreen disappears. It doesn't matter whatever you do.
But IF you have no pRSS anymore then you can regain the original welcomehead.96.png, because it's not gone but hide away...
Easily changed 1st splash with rom update (seems harder) but I'll give up the 2nd one because I like to use pRSSreader. Maybe ask the developer for a bug.
Thanx anyway
I tried deleting the welcomehead file but Resco says it can't be deleted as its in ROM.
I have the same problem, installed pRSSReader, it made my screen disappear. So I uninstalled it but the problem is still there.
Any fixes?
I would try the ones above but I can't seem to delete the png file.
Thanks..
copy welcomehead.96.png from Windows folder to anywhere(can be your PC) and copy it back to Windows folder.
think it will work
I tried that. It doesn't seem to work
I renamed the welcomehead.96.png file and then I deleted the renamed one. It created a new png file which, when I open, I can see is the Windows Mobile screen.
But it doesn't show on startup.
I also tried copying it to my storage card and then copying it back to Windows.
Doesn't work
Any other suggestions, please?
if you navigate to
HKLM\Security\Phone\Skin
Change the value of Enabled to 1
Soft Reset
do you get your logo now ....
I know changing the value to 0 should give the the default windows mobile screen
It was already set to 1 so I took a chance and changed it to 0.
Well...its still the same.
This is unbelievable. I also had a go with Total Commander and some of the instructions around this forum. Nothing.
I can't believe the developer of pRSSReader can screw up so bad...I am going to make sure I tell everyone I know to steer clear.
Thanks for your help, though...
try to create another welcomehead.96.png with properties 240x320 24bit (important) with your PC copy it over PPC windows folder. it should work.
i have done like this way and i change whatever i want but pRSS reader get things conplicated if u want your welcome screen do not use that program as well.
Should the image be 320x320 or 240x320? I know the resolution of the device is 240x320 but many people who have posted here on how to change the boot images say it should be 320x320.
I will do the above and let you know how it goes.
I can easily change my 2nd splash before pRSSreader and now and will after (uninstalled that RSS program)
I posted this thread becuse I wanted to learn if that program created the bug or not and if it's possible to overcome that problem without uninstalling. Asked the buddy who wrote pRSSreader and absolutely he was not aware of the issue. maybe will solve it eith the next release who knows ??
all my images are 240x320 24bit .png and they work perfect.
let me know how it goes as u told
Well, I edited the original 320x320 image to 240x320 and then copied it to my Windows folder. It still doesn't work! It's so strange
I can't imagine how its not working because it seems to be for everyone else.
I can confirm that the problem took place after I installed pRSSReader as I didn't install any other program before that for at least 3 days. It's a very nice program (and free, which makes it nicer) but not worth the trouble if it messes up my system.
Well, I guess I'll learn to live with it...till I decide to do a hard reset and install all my stuff again (which is just scary as I have a lot of stuff and it'll take up tons of time).
Hi All,
first: I know there was just few posts ago same thread.
BUT!
What i really want to see here(We r in Polaris section not Kaiser)
is proper tools and proper explan. how to build and flash Splashes for Polaris.
I tried to do that with info given in Kaiser branch but no luck(mostly coz i was affraid to brick my cruise)
I have to deal with noobs every day at work (i put myself in noob cat. when it concerns phones-flashing-and etc.) and the only way to help them when screeming at u saying that u r as..ole and dont want to help--- is to draw them a "PICTURE" with what they have to do.
So.
Im nOOb here and i'd love to see that PICTURE.
It'd be nice if someone who knows this stuff and does it every day, would make some PrintScreen of the whole proccess of creating and flashing splashes for Polaris.
Thanx alot to all of u who makes our(nOOb's(but willing to learn)) lives more interesting
Cheers lads
Don't know about changing the first HTC splash screen but the Windows one that loads after it really got on my nerves...so if you want to change just that one this app worked for me.
It basically unlocks the file welcomehead.96 in the Windows folder. You can then overwrite it with a picture of your choice (renamed "welcomehead.96"), saved as a .png image and resized to 240x320 (I used Paint for this).
Hope this helps a little.
cheers dude.
SubSplash Flash
Hi, here is a group of very useful tools that load any image you like into the boot loader creating your own splash
There is an interesting thing: another Splash after the first one called Subsplash (when showing radio and rom versions) that is tricky to replace. It has place at the address 0x601. So, you have to edit htcrt_devices.ini file by changing the address wherever you read 0x600 put 0x601, look for your device (or change them all in the list just in case). Only then you can produce the RUU_signed.nbh. After that, replace into ROMUpdateUtility folder and flash. Try it. Almost one day to find out how to get rid of that awfull image from Claro Argentina! Hope this helps.

its just the gif file, you can change the setting with advanced config or manually editing the registry
to point to the file
hklm/software/htc/htc animation startupgif /windows/semc1904.gif
Apologies for hijacking the thread slightly (it looks nicely resolved to me though), does anyone know where the initial Sony Ericsson image is stored - i.e. the one that greets you when you first fire up the Xperia?
I found SEMC2904.bmp in the Wndows folder which is exactly what the startup screen looks like, but even if I change that file the startup image stays the same.
Any ideas? Or failing that, is there a registry setting to change the path for the initial startup image?

Can't restore xperia animated logo
Hi there,
been trying to get back xperia animated logo but no luck, seems that registry keys are not enough.
I've messed witk Mainsplash and Subsplash and successfully changed both by modifying htc rom tool settings and playing with nbimg, but xperia animated logo doesn't have anything to do with bootsplash, it's managed bt registry and no need to mess with reflashing inital splashes.
Here's what occurs at wm boot:
1. Display Mainsplash
2. Display Subsplash
3. Display Animated logo
4. Display Welcomehead*.png
I 've also tried playing with registry keys which were used successflly by HTC prophet users to display boot animation (see : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1719336&postcount=19)
but still no luck...
Has anyone succesfully restored Xperia boot logo ?
EDIT: Solved!

EDIT (14/01/2009):
Finally managed to get this stuff back, registry keys were not correct.
Here is a link for all those who want to get back their Xperia Boot Logo.
Unzip this file in your kitchen's OEM folder, it is ready to be cooked:
http://www.4shared.com/file/80625819/778c01d2/Xperia_stock_startup.html
(if you want to get it back without cooking anything, just put the file in \windows
on your device and edit your registry according to included keys in .rgu file)
Hope someone will find this usefull.
Cheers.
the reg key works prefectly in mine and on several other wwe roms are you on a french rom? that may be the problem..
you dont need to start playing with cooking roms just to get the htc animated startup working.
of course the easy way is to use advanced config to choose the gif you want to use.. and thats where i got the reg key from
Thank you for the answer fards, the problem was that at the beginning i was trying to put the wrong reg key which was included in archive posted some posts above.
First reg key i've tried was:
HKLM/software/htc/htcanimation
Tried also with a space between "htc" and "animation" but none worked.
By searching a little i found some htc prophet related posts with registry settings that put me on the right path.
After some unsuccessful tries i found that the following keys did the trick - at least for me -:
"Volumn"=dword:00000000
"WAVFile"="dummy"
"Enabled"=dword:00000001
"GIFFile"="\\Windows\\SEMC1904.gif"
"Priority"=dword:000000C8
As you can see, the keys for playing a wave file when dislaying animation are here too.
Since i'm beginning in cooking stuff - and also in the whole ppc world - and wanted to make an ultralight ROM from my stock french one, i wanted to do everything at hand, in order to improve my understanding of the whole stuff, including little "cosmetic" details as well as critical system tweaks to fit my needs without using a single piece of additional software.
I've edited my previous post according to how i resolved this and included a zip archive to replace the one posted previously, which was including wrong registry settings.
Nice to see what we can achieve by working on various things and exchanging ideas, techniques and advises.
I've learned many thing since i began last week, but still a lot to learn...
Now i can go to the next level...
Cheers and thanks again.

Hello everyone.
I was going to learn how to flash my hd2 to personalize boot and splash image.
I can't deny that i'm a bit confused.
I readed some guide here, like 'how to flash everything' and 'flashing your first leo 512mb' but there is not explained how to proceed to change boot and splash images.
Let's go then to know more about it.
First at all i got that i need to install HSPL2 on the device.
Doing this, we will able us to flash everything on the hd2.
But there are also other progs that i do not undestand if i can use instead the HSPL2, like leo_CustomRUU, or SSPL_RUU.
Maybe can be helpful if someone tell me/us ( noobs ) what is better and easy to use.
After this, there are two 'images' that we can personalize:
-the first is when we turn on the device, with the htc logo and the hand writing word;
-the second, the Windows word on the red desktop color.
The first is the boot image, the second the splash screen.
Is it right?
Okay, if it's correct, i suppose that we need to 'operate' on two different kind of 'image file'.
I downloaded a .zip file that contains various kind of images ( static ) with .nbh extension.
That are splash images, so it will change only the splash image.
I don't know if i can use it directly without rename it, if i must put that file in a specific position on the device or only in the sd root ( formatted ), and then launch the progs ( what kind? ).
Yes...need help for this.
Thanks
p.s sorry for my poor english
hspl2 unlocks the phone for flashing.
sspl is a one shot alternative to hspl, you don't need it.
customruu is a slightly altered version of the rom loader that comes with official roms. it is altered to allow flashing cooked roms.
you flash boot image just like roms, and it is actuallya small rom.(no hard reset needed, doesn't affect your rom at all.)
there are three parts to the boot screens, as you correctly noted, only the first part is flashed, the second and third are changed within your setup by cabs or replacing image files.

i see.
well i downloaded HD2 splash screen V1.zip ( inside the link that you posted here ) and inside it there is already Custom_RUU.
I think then that i must use it to flash the custom splash on the device.
Right?
and...i must put the .nbh file not inside the sd card, but in the device root.

i successfully installed HSPL ( not hspl2 ) on my device.
Now i'm trying to flash the device with an .nbh image, for the splash screen.
My doubt is:
1- where to put the .nbh file
2- if i need to copy custom_ruu.exe also inside the device where is located the .nbh file and then launch another copy of it from my pc.
I did it but the custom_ruu.exe tell me to upgrade the rom from 1.66 to 1.0...
a bit strange i think....or not?
thanks
to flash roms and splashscreens - put the nbh into a folder with customruu (customruu usually comes with the rom, if not use one from another download, all customruu.exe's are the same)
just those two files in folder, run customruu as administrator, done.

i was a little afraid when the app told me to 'update' the rom to 1.0 hehe.
ok then, it's flashed
well, it's also possible to modify the Windows on red background image in some way?
i just installed an .nbh image that allow me to modify the standard htc logo, then a .cab with a post simulation ( like a pc post; unfortunately if i do an hard reset i must reinstall it.... ), but i didn't found nothing for the Windows on the red background colour.
Thanks a lot again for your support
hehe, ignore what it says in the update version bit, its usually blank or wrong.
about the other two images, and re: ' have to reinstal it when hard reset', , , well yea, cos theyre adjustments to the loaded rom, the first part is unconnected, youd get that even if there were no rom, after task29 for instance.

ok then.
i'll bump this thread with the hope that someone can help us.
The last question is:
it's possible to change with a flashing ( maybe permanent modify then ) the Windows word on red background?
Thanks to you sam for your help, and to those that will answer to this last question
The windows splash screen is a file called welcomehead.png in the windows directory. Just replace this with an image of your choice and it'll be changed.
im pretty sure i can answer that question as no, you cant modify it so that it survives a hard reset without cooking, and then flashing the cooked results, you cant modify the rom. you would need to get the rom in a kitchen, repolace the images, cook the rom and flash it.
In reality, of course, all you need do is keep your replacement images on your sd card, then copy them back after the hard reset.,
in fact i tryed to delete the welcomhead.png, but nothing to do, even if i change the permission with total commander...
i think that there is no easy way to replace it ( aside to cook a ROM with a different image and then install the modified ROM ).
i think ill give up about this...ill keep the standard ( and not really good looking ) Windows word....
thanks to you all
rather than delete the original which you can't cos it's in the rom, just copy replacement over it, that should work.

1. It's been a while, when I had the TP1, I used Schaps Advanced Config v3.3 to change the 2nd and 3rd items, does v3.3 still work for the HD2 ?
2. Does anyone have the O2 Splash screen GIF with animated rising bubbles? I had it in a samsung flip phone, searched but could not find a WVGA one. Searched Youtube came up blank. something like this on the O2 XDA
