4 GB SD Disks - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

I wanted to post this and share my thoughts. I purchased both the A-Data 150x 4GB SD Card and the Transcend 150x 4GB SD Card for my Universal (specifically, an imate JasJar). Both appear to work fine on my Universal without any problems. I plugged both in straight out of the box. The one problem you MAY have is getting a card read for your PC that will read these cards. Here's one that will definately work:
SanDisk MobileMate™ SD™ Plus 5-in-1 Reader (SDDR-103)
Here's the link:
Link
I've been able to use the MobileMate with both cards and they appear as 4GB removeable harddrives on my computer (XP Pro w/SP2).
Hope this information is useful to some.

Where did you buy the "A-Data 150x 4GB SD Card"?

ebay.

Can you also please check if the A-Data SD card allows you to store pictures and video on it.
I bought the Transcernd 4GB about 2 months ago and I can't store pictures on it using my XDA EXEC. Thus I returned it for a refund.

Both work
I've read that people have had problems with storing picture on the SD Card. I've taken pictures and successfully stored them using BOTH cards (A-DATA and Transcend) and I've watched videos on both.

Excellent, I am going to soon purchase an SD card for my Jasjar. Knowing the 4GB works is great news.
Thanks,

I bought it two days ago from Ebay (flashman) and all is going well apart from two aspect:
1) My portable acer tr 8100 did not recognaize the card and to load files i used special software i saw in this forum
2) before i used 1gb sd and store directly photo and videos take from the phone in that card and all is went good.
Now with this new card i didn't, i have to store directly in the phone memory.
I think is a phone problem not a faulty sd.
A-Data have lifetime guarantee...

I have that problem I cannot save photos or video with my camera on the A-Data card. The error that comes up is the following:-
Unable to capture.
Not enough memory.
36009:111:0
Now the card is new and its 98% free.
What I am thinking is could it be that your version of camera.exe is different from mine. Weatheryoko can you upload your camera.exe here please.

That sounds like a problem with the application - sounds like someone has used a signed integer instead of an unsigned integer. It has too much memory to show in to small a space and thus shows a smaller number that is actually available.... It's an app problem, not an SD card problem.

That makes sense therefore would you say that if I fill up the card more and there is less empty space the card would work with the camera? Or maybe there are different versions of the camera.exe that would handle the extra memory?

Yes that sounds like it should work - although how much you need to fill up I don't know. You'd probably need between 1 and 2GB I would imagine.

I had the same problem, what you need to do is to keep the free space of your SD < 2GB!

Correct there as it worked. Hope they fix this bug as I was going to send the card back. Many owners of 4GB sd cards have sent it back because of this bug. Thanks to you, darkblak and this forum this is solved

Thanks for this info. I guess the next time I buy one I'll have to remember to fill it up more than 2GB for the camera to store it to the card.

erm, not sure that is the problem. I have gotten exactly the same error before when using the 512MB card that came with the universal. I think it is to do with the speed of writting to the card, and actually, the amount of memory available to the application.

I had the same problem with my 512Mb card so it can't be a case of card size. Speed of card and memory avaliable might be more likely, as coldpenguin said.
Fin

What I wanted to know is, if it is only the Camera.exe that has this problem or is there any other software that accesses the storage card that has a similar problem.
If it is only the Camera.exe are there different versions that might not have this bug?
My version of Camera.exe is Version 3.00 (Build 21244)

Based from what happened to me, I don't think it is the camera.exe file that has this problem. Why? I had problems with the 4GB Card Transcend card, but I am not having any problems with the San Disk 2 GB ULTRA. I also tried the San Disk 1 GB card (basic) and had no problems with it. Just like what is stated above, I have to agree that the bug lies in the built-in card reader.exe file.

For your information, I'm using Transcend 4GB SD (150x). I had the problem and initially I thought it was a memory problem but then it happened even right after I reset the phone, then I tired record to local storage without problem. I tried to fill it with around 2.5GB of video and it works perfectly.

As stated in other posts its not just the size but even the speed that will make camera.exe not save on it. But some questions apart from the Camera not saving photos and movies on the card was the 4GB recognized by the Universal? You where able to install software on the card. Because I could do all this accept saving from the Camera.exe.

Missing free space in SD card

Guys, please help me out on this weird problem. Check on the pics, notice the 1st picture reports that my Storage Card uses 405.8 MB. However, if i go to the details (2nd picture), if you add up all the usage per folder, it only total to 308 MB. Where's the missing 100MB? I also tried manually investigating this through RESCO Explorer and the same result, usage report doesn't make sense
what sd brand are you using? i had the same problem when i was using my 512mb sandisk (hey mates, no offense to those using this card). the storage indicators showed that i had 480mb of free space...but when i loaded my files i found that i could only use 380-plus mb. card said it was full but the indicator said i still had space to use. i did a number of reformats but no avail; still stuck with the 380mb limit.
since then i've switched to using a 1gig toshiba card; works well for me. indicators show that i had 988 of free space...which is exactly the amount of files i was able to load.
cheers
i'm using this brand of SD Card
well, from what i gather there are some sd card brands which seem to have poor quality in terms of storage, speed and such. when i switched to using toshiba and panasonic cards; i've had no issues since then as compared to when i was still using sandisk or kingston. if you have a bud who has a different brand of card try asking him or better yet try out his card by plugging in your unit.
cheers
Could it be that you are just using loads of small files on a card with large cluster size?

Camera capacity

I have a problem with camera and availability of free space for photos. On storage card I have 4GB of free space and camera shows that I can make 6 photos only. Camera has set Storage card for store photos. Main memory shows 270 photos, Storage card with 4GB of free space shows 6 photos only...
SOLVED: SD CARD TUNE FIX was reason. After uninstall everything looks o.k. Currently I can take 730 photos and store it on Storage card.

not sure if this is the answer but sometimes with external storage when you delete somthing it goes into the recycle bin so is still there. try pluging in the storage card to your computer then emptying the recycle bin. (the recycle bin on your computer/desktop)
if not i dont have a clue, you could try copying all your important files off the card then format it.
just saw this thread by another person who seems to have a better answer:

Never tried on my 16GB card, since it´s already more than half full.....so yes, seems to be a bug on the HD

Yes, it should be a bug. My first opinion that SD Tune fix is reason was wrong. I tested, when I fill up over 4GB my Storage Card, then I can take more over 5 thousand photos again. I reported this bug to HTC, might somebody else could report this bug to HTC...

Problem with memory card

10 days ago i bought a new micro SDHC 8 gb card, and i started copying music to it immediately. My phone did not recognise the card after that, giving me a "damaged sd card" error. Eventually i somehow made it work, and it was good for a couple of days. After that, it would copy files on the card without problems, but once the media scanning is completed, the files are not on the card So i went to the shop where i bough it and got it replaced, only to get the same results: after 2-3 days, the copied files arent showing on the phone, or the pc. It's like i didn't copy them at all. Can anyone help me with this?
i think you just need to format your sd to fat32 again... you can do that with mini tool partition wizard
Yes, formating worked on the first card, but then the problem appeared again I can't format it every time i need something new.

true.
i also got the sd card damaged when i first inserted sd card but when i formatted it again it worked...
What bugs me the most is that it's working with no problem for just a couple of days, then it's from the start again. I noticed a LOST.DIR or something named folder on the card whenever it acts like this, and the files and the size in the lost folder fits the size of the folders i'm copying...
yep, the lost files definitely go into the lost.dir folder. Anyone knows something about this folder, other than that it collects all the lost data? Any way to recover the lost files? Why does this happen in the first place?
I had teh same problem ...
There's actually 2 options to get it working ...
1) Buy a class 4 or a class 6 sdcard. (Teh one which u get for free with u're G3 phone is class 2 sdcard and it sucks )
2) Remove teh stock applications and install some cool applications which's got teh option "manual folder scan" (You can select this option for force u're application to scan u're sdcard) Like power amp for music player and quick pic for viewing photos or wall papers or what eva ..!
OP already says "new micro SDHC 8 gb card"
so there certainly some problem with how card is handled in his Handheld.
Can you mention which version of ROM is this ?

Or may be he can use teh second option
The card might be bad or a fake with less memory than physically present, which would explain the corruptions and files in the lost files dir - the filesystem checker puts lost file blocks there.
Maybe test your card with something like this:

Hey guys thanks for the new reply's, but i already took the card to service, and it is a fake. I'm waiting for a new card to arrive at the store and take it.
I too should have taken it to the store and got it replaced
Too bad i didn't think of it
You should have! I used an application which determined that the card is fake by reporting it's true capacity, told the store about it, and they scanned their products, eventually learning that all of the cards are fake (the Kingston ones). Now, i'm waiting for a new shipment to arrive and get my new card. Hopefully it will not be a fake.

Annoying external SD issue

Hey there guys.
I have the latest european stock firmware on my SGS2. The issue persists since I bought the thing: I am using a 32GB card and I cannot get the phone to see media files that are on it. I copied 2 or 3 movies on the card, which was of course formatted before use, and it says that the space is taken but I cannot see the files either in file explorer , or in Gallery. Any idea why? Maybe it doesnt fully support a 32GB card?
Are you using fat32? If not... use it

I formatted in on the device. I imagined this would be the best way. And my computer is alos set to format as FAT32. So maybe it is just a faulty card??!!

Maybe the movie is too big for the file system. Every file system can handle only files up to a special size... Try to reformat and check if the video is converted the right way... Take aybe 10 minutes of the movie, convert it and transfer it to your phone to be sure about the file size thing... Officialy the phone is compatible up to 64gb.
Unfortunately is none of the suggestions. Although I can use the card perfectly well on the laptop, it doesnt work properly with the phone. Must be some incompatibility. Which sucks, since it s a 32GB card... Thank anyway
Are you sure it's really a 32GB card? Many cheap cards that one can buy on places like eBay are fakes -- low-capacity cards hacked to look like high-capacity.
There are some test programs that will tell you if the card is really the capacity it's supposed to be. On the phone itself, you can run SDCardTester (free from Android Market), and on the PC you can run h2testw.

Yes this might be an idea. It is unbranded , but on laptop it shows 32GB. Hmm.. I have it from a sony ericsson xperia from a trusted person, but on the other hand...who can you trust? I will try my 4GB card and see if it shows my movies.

Cannot format SanDisk 64Gb microSD

I have a 64 GB microSD card and it was working fine, I had it almost full because I do travelling sometimes, but all of a sudden, I cannot delete the contents and I cannot format it from the phone or pc. I did some research and I saw that this has happened to a lot of people, mostly with galaxy phones. I have ordered samsung 64GB card now but is there any way to format the card and empty its contents?
Be careful when/if u end up getting it formatted, ive had a few come back and go corrupt after putting files on it thinking it was all cleared and fixed. Im not sayin....im just sayin.

Same here as well. All my personal data is on the card, including bank passwords etc. I will have to go through quite a lot of hassle to change all the passwords and there are family pictures etc as well. This blows.
Same problem here, with a SanDisk 64Gb Ultra microSD. Failed to delete files one day last week - they'd come back after a reboot. Sometimes with a corrupt filename.
Now completely write protected. Zero issues prior to last week.
this is à very common problem!
but there is one solution
try to format your sd card using linux (ubuntu).
No joy for me. Tried last week - writing zeroes using DD proved ineffective, as did the official Windows SD formatter application.

If it's the same problem mine had, then nothing is likely to help. If the controller on the card has decided to write protect the storage because of impending doom, there is nothing you're likely to achieve with most user accessible tools.
Get in touch with Sandisk - I found the staff to be brilliant. After a couple of emails back and forth, I had permission to drill through the memory ic on the card to protect my days, and an RMA number to return the product. Sadly I have to return it to the Czech Republic (awkward as in in the UK - somewhat expensive) - but is less hassle than dealing with many retailers.
