Flip a bit tight? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Ive had my exec for a few weeks now and I love it, apart from the hinge. Its no big deal, but its getting stiffer and stiffer as the days go on and ocassionally, I hear a squeak when I open it. This is when I flip it and not twist it. Does anyone else get this, that its a bit stiff? Should I return to o2? It should come under warrenty, but if it doesnt I got the gold insurance so that should cover it.
It also makes a scraping noise when flipping it!?

Within a week or so I was worried that my hinge was becoming less stiff, not more so. In the end I realised it was because I had just got used to the amount of force needed and I was no longer afraid of doing it.
If you listen very carefully to mine, you can hear something but I wouldn't describe it as a scraping noise, and it definitely isn't getting stiffer. Sounds like you might have the same problem as my old laptop. Given it will definitely be under warranty, I'd ring up and voice your concerns, with the aim of them sending a replacement.
Ant

i'm pretty sure mine has got looser, if i grip the top and bottom of just the screen (PDA mode) and sort of twist it moves quite a bit, i'm sure it didn't do that when i got it. Does anyone elses do that?
It definately hasn't got stiffer!

keep an eye on this
Mine got tight to rotate and close, last weekend.
On wednesday i thought the battery had gone low quite quickly.
Whilst out that night the phone got hot in my pocket.
within seconds it was quite hot then it shut off and nothing since.
I spoke to O2 today and as the phone is just inside 28 days replacement will be sent.
I deffinately started with the flip being stiff, i wondered if there was anything that could have been caught but dont know.
clive

hhmm now its a bit strange! The flip is still tight, where as the rotating but is to loose! Its useable, but im afraid that if I take it into the o2 shop they will think im being a bit fussy.

new one arrived
Great service from o2
i phone last friday to tell my tale and brand new replacement here today.

Dropped my XDA-Exec

Hi guys, this is not my lucky week, I dropped my Exec yesterday onto laminated floor from abour 3' it was oki so I was happy, dispite it drawing my attention to the dodgy stick on strip by the speakers thats now peeling after giving it a thorough examination. I dropped it again today, this time only a bath room floor with that odd grit like surface, this time its scratched up one of the corners realatively bad. I have also noticed now an odd hinge noise when opening the Exec, sort of like a creek or cracking noise, not to mention the fact that it now switches itself off and hard locks after a random period of playing music in both WMP and TCMP, is this sufficient reasoning to send it back to O2, is there a way I can get a replacement? The hinge noise and random crash hard locking was occuring before the 2 falls.
In other news, I also bumped my car in the work car park against an impossibly low wall, car got a little scratch on rear bumper out of sight, but is a testiment to my bad luck this week.
Would need to know quite quickly if I can get a replacement or should just return it to O2 as I have about 3 days left of 14 day money back guarentee left.
Thanks
What are tonight's lucky lotto numbers then, qui?
lol
bad luck..
I dropped my phones so often that i learned to live with it.. first day i had a brand new qtek s100 i dropped it on the carpet in my bedroom.. with the screen right on top of a screw.. only 1 screw lying on the floor in the whole room .. huge dent in the screen LOL
Cars... i bought 3 cars now.. first one head gasket blew, 2nd one valves started to sound like a diesel and the one i have now leaves huge trails of smoke when driving above 130km/h LMAO i can cry but i wont so i will laugh
And i have several of those stories.. haha nowadays i insure my new mobiles for damage by my self and insure it against theft etc..
If you don't have a special insurance you wont get a new phone or a repair if it damaged, the will blame it on you.
Just learn to live with it haha
Yeah, I don't suppose O2 will replace it FOC with damage unless you've got the insurance.
Bad luck qui . These things are pretty heavy so I'm not surprised it's suffered after a drop. Perhaps I should consider using the leather case for mine now...
I have insurance, however its on my old XDAII, forgot to add the Exec to it, however surely the hinge noise which is like a creeking/crack type noise as well as the random switch off the hard locks are cause to get the phone replaced. I have managed to buff out the scratch some what that its quite faint noise, you would be surprised what a little graphite and a polishing cloth can do these days .
Anyway can you tell me if they will replace is due the the hinge and software problem?
hmm
cracking noise i have too MDA PRO, only when i open it after not having used it for a while.. is gone after that first cracking noise hehe
You could try to hand in you Exec, and claim it as your xdII lol.. but if you are very unlucky they send you an brand new shiney XDA II back instead of your EXEC
I'm now wondering whether I should have selected the £59 O2 Insurance (or whatever it costs)...
I've had a few minor incidents with my XDA2, I've never dropped it though.
Oki, looking at O2 Insurance T&C I can still buy insurance for the phone, are they likely to replace it for minor damage to the phone chassis?
They'll most probably ask you to send the phone off for repair, rather than issuing you with a replacement.
Just called O2, since I am in 14 day still I told the nice lady my issues, being the creeking hinge and the reseting hardlocking when playing music and she has agreed to send me a replacement, didnt even need to BS or explain about the dropping incidents, seems that if your in 14 days you will get replacement no matter what.
Whoa...Nice.
ehh
try that with orange or tmobile. lol or any operator in holland and they wont do it LOL..
had a mate who had a faulty orange m500 and brought it back after 4 days, he didn't get a replacement and it took 3 weeks for him to get his phone back.
hehe maybe its a form of karma its balancing out my misfortune.
Careful, 02 like to give you refurbished handsets on the insurance. If the new one arrives and it's clearly been opened before (IE no outer box, bags inside are open) then you should ask for a 'New' one. Chances are a refurb had a problem before which will resurface after a while.
-Mike
Will look out for it cheers, although i beleive its a new one as they just despatched it from their warehouse, as oppose to a repair centre as you would expect a refurb to come from, could be wrong though.
Back to the subject of Dropping . . .
I'd like somewhere to attach a lanyard. Missed this facility on the XDA IIs as well.
All my previous SOny Clie's had a post for attaching a wrist strap.
Anyone got any ideas how this could be achieved?
you could feed it around the external arial holes. Just pop the lil rubber blanking grommets out?
I may have to do this, i dropped mine and killed. it
I can see it now. Parker with an XDA sewn to one sleeve and a sandwich sewn to the other, just like school days.

I feel for ya, I dropped mine having had it only two days, the damn thing just got away from me - small scratch on the edge of the caseing. Then I went and dropped it a couple of days later on the tiled bathroom floor - ouch. Small dent in the edge of the lid now. Still working like a dream though.
I figured I would probably be dropping this a few more times over the course of a year so I'll replace it through the O2 insurance when it dies.
Please let us know if the replacement exec you get is in fact a new one, I'm still inside my 14 days at the moment.

Black paint chipping off my Wizard :(

Hi guys, when I got my wizard, it had 3 tiny little pin prick sized holes on the middle black section just above the IrDA. Almost like tiny air bubbles that had been popped, it was hardly noticable.
Yesterday I noticed that in this area, some of the black paint had chipped off, at first I thought it was something on my phone so I rubbed it gently and more paint chipped off, it comes off with the gentlest of touches with my nail.
I've taken good care of the phone, it doesn't have a single scratch on it, other than this.
I am not happy, I've dealt with the ridiculous speeds of my phone, the crashing, the complaints that people can't hear me, and now this.
I know it's only a cosmetic defect, but what are my chances of getting it swapped?
I've had the phone 6 weeks.
Cheers
Don't know about swapped.. but at least in NL several users have sent in their Qtek9100 to Qtek.nl's support for the paint coming off of the faceplate buttons, and gotten new faceplates. However, there's also some that are still waiting (20days+) to get their device back... there's -that- to keep in mind as well
Flaky
Until I got my car mount I was jamming mine in my old XDA II mount. This has caused the black paint to flake off big time. However, as the underneath is black too I'm not that bothered. Makes it look kind of lived in.
I have had the exact problem from pretty much the first week I got the device. I have babied it too.
Yep, my paint is flaking off too. The paint on the IE, messaging and soft keys went a long time ago. A little annoying for such an expensive device.
me too.
my IE button's paint is staying but my messaging key's paint is peeling off. also, the paint flaked off from the non-IrDA side, and the Qtek branding peeled off significantly before i cleaned it out completely. the build quality of the outer casing of this device is very questionable.
i can't wait to switch to my next ppcpe, the FS T830.
Wow I guess it's not just me then.
I'll take it back this evening and see what they say, I guess they will initially try to give me the run around.
Cheers for the replies.

same with me, i have a topic on peeled buttons.
used a needle to clean it up, now looks perfect.
I have had some paint troubles on my i-mate K-Jam too...
I bought it at the end of November '05.
Actually it is in for assistance on many small troubles, but if I sum all of them, they are quite annoying:
- stylus not being retained anymore in place
- keyboard not railing correctly to the end on the left side when opening
- keyboard a little bit loosy (when it's closed you can "gently" press is a little bit and it gets at least two millimiters thin, but this is probably due to the fact it felt on the floor once)
- sometimes files stored on the memory card (SanDisk SD 1Gb) are LOST
- paint on the black chassis (both sides) bubbled and came off
The answer I got about paint on the chassis is that "cosmetical" problems are not covered by warranty, but I replied that garantee covers "BAD CONSTRUCTION" problems, beside "functional or cosmetic" and this has to be intended as "BAD CONSTRUCTION", nothing else.
I'll have to pay, but I'll immediately after go to the court for my rights...
I'll try to contact i-mate in the meaningwhile, but actually their website is offline...
I'll keep you informed.
Ciao
any of you guys gonna send the phone for warranty repaire because of this issue?
somebody in NL did and waited 3 weeks+ to get the phone back... probably not worth it But at least Qtek NL did state that it was a manufacturing error and that they'd take care of it.
Edit: this is regarding the paint chipping off of the buttons; not sure about paint elsewhere / any of the other issues. The loose stylus silo is definitely a known issue; hard to ignore as it's all over the internet
My complain was about the paint which is bubbling and removing from the black sides of the device itself.
This morning (after 3 weeks) I got it back BUT I had to PAY Euro 88,00 for this service as the issue was not recognised as a warranty one...
I did not got the damaged part back (and I don't like this, as it's MINE since I PAID !!!).
This is giving me a lot of PUSH towards climbing the organisation ladder and complaining at every single level, up to my local court...
Just for my reference: if it's a WARRANTY ISSUE, the replaced parts are kept from the service as stated in the warranty document, but if I have to pay for a substitution, don't you think I owe the replaced parts back ?
Just my two cents.

Loose Slider?

Hey guys,
I recently got a replacement Xperia from O2 after my old one had a severe backlight bleed, however, one thing stands out for this one with me.
The slider seems very loose, so loose that when you close an application by tapping 'X', the left side of the screen rises about half a millimeter.
Also, when the phone is opened, the screen is loose, e.g. shaking the device slightly causes the screen to 'Flap' in a sense.
I can't remember if my original had a loose slider, so fellow X1 owners....Is this common? Is it worth ringing O2 again?
hi
well, i have my xperia for some 2 months and the screen is also very loose, when i open it i can see that the right metalplate that holds the screen moves about 1mm up and down, the left one is steady in place tho... when it's closed i can even insert my touchscreen pen in between the screen and keyboard... it's that loose... i figure it happens over time... i never let it fall down on the floor and i always use a hard leather bag on my belt to carry it. It's a bit annoying tho, the phone doesn't feel nearly as solid as when i bought it. But the thought of having to send the phone for repair and have to wait i don't know how long to have it back, is holding me from doing anything about it...
But maybe it happens with all or most phones...?
Well, according to the staff at the service centre here, the looseness is cos of the curved sliding mechanism. Asked if they could tighten it and they said if tightening it would cause the keyboard to get scratched.
lol that's such a lame excuse... it was tightened when it was brand new lol
Mine may be a little loose, but it has not gotten worse since I got it a few months ago. It is as I expected from a slider phone. It still feels tight and top quality.
It's difficult to discuss things like this without trying your phone and vice versa. I guess if you feel your phone is too floppy and not as tight as one can expect, you should definately talk to the service guys again.
Mine is loose too
Since I got my X1 at the end of Oct 2008 the slider has become loose compared to when it was new and I have compared it to other new X1's in stores. I found that the backplate of the slideout, at the exposed long side of the phone, between the two "tracks" has come loose from the actual top part and this is causing allowing the slider to move. In the new X1's i checked this parts was firmly attached to the top part and the slider was very nice and firm. I think SE may have a manufacturing problem here and I've turned mine in for repair. It will be interesting to see if they fix it or come back and say "abuse". I use it professionally and I have a original SE beltpouch for it.
Apart from this little problem I love the phone and it's functions!
no kidding. my P has a little scratch from the slider being too tight.
apologies for bringing this thread back from the dead.
I've encountered the same problem and just had a word with the the dedicated XPERIA line in the US. I purchased my phone from Carphone Warehouse in the UK.
What they said was that they would need to verify the purchase of the phone. Once that is done, I can send it in to the service center and have it repaired. Not too sure if they're going to do anything about it, but they said it could take up to 60 days (!!!!).
Anyone had any luck fixing this without sending it in?
Have brought my phone to the service centre twice, both times with regards to battery life issues, and had at the same time mentioned about the loose slider, but never had they done anything about it.

End Button Paint Chipped :'(

So the paint chipped around the phone icon on my phone. I purchased it at Best Buy some a few months ago. Should the be cover under manufacture warranty. I have no insurance from Sprint.
mine did the same thing
Same Here
Same here, bought at bestbuy also. Had a bubble to begging with. I personally couldn't care less tho.
Mine has been chipped for a few months and just a few days ago I noticed that nearly all the paint is gone from the end call key.
Keep in mind, I baby my phone, I have it in a hard case and I don't put it in my pants pocket etc. So nothing has been coming in contact with the key except for my finger pushing on it.
had mine since october '09 nd no signs of paint chips... only thing mine has is worn spots on finish on the back of the battery cover but a gel skin covers that obviously...
yea my girlfriend's hero did that too. best buy shouldn't return it but if you call costumer care they should hook you up with a new one. just tell them you know there is a one year warranty. I mentioned how they returned my touch pro for the chrome chipping issue. they know it's a problem and shouldn't give you any crap. but like I said best buy won't do it unless the button is broken.
my paint is all chiped off my end button as well i wonder why this doesnt happen to the call button?

Well if you are like me, you use your end button ALOT more than the call button. IE... turning the screen off.
same thing happened to me.. but the sprint store replaced it.
I have to laugh here. I abuse the crap out of my phone and I only have one little scratch right above the call button. I have had it now for about 4 and 1/2 months.
Mine did exactly the same.
Sprint WILL replace them, I was about to return mine after speaking with Sprint helpdesk, when I managed to brick it updating the radio, Sprint replaced it without questions.
its a little chipped paint imnot to worried about it myself
mine is got little bubbles..but who cares..but i do have dust under the screen.. so one day i will exchange it...
mine has hardly any paint left.. :/
also my back button is starting to chip too
AND the silver part around the camera is like eroding haha
i have no paint on my end button because it looked bad with a piece missing so i just took it all off and now its an all red end button
my precious paint job chipped off tooooo BAAAWWWW
DOES THE PHONE STILL WORK?
DO YOU KNOW WHAT BUTTON IS "END"?
calm down
I noticed it on the demo phone in the Sprint store so I anticipated it. Mine didn't chip off right away, but started to peel. So I got a toothpick and some superglue and lightly spread it under and around, then pressed it down. So far so good.
Both my girlfriend's phone and my phone have the same problem. Best buy offered to replace but had to send away and would be without a phone for a week and Sprint said they wouldn't.
It started bubbling up on mine in January and then this morning a big chunk chipped off. It's not the end of the world, but damn it's ugly. I may try to exchange it later if/when the dust gets out of control.

[Q] Cracked screen -> fast battery drain now

I cracked my screen pretty badly this weekend and am planning on ordering the replacement parts this week (debating the just glass or the new glass/LCD options). But I've noticed since then(last 2 days) the battery has drained pretty fast. Normally I get 2 days from a charge, today I pulled the phone off the cord at 8am and now at 3pm I got a pop-up saying <10%. The phone has only sat on the desk. No calls, no emails, no text, no web surfing.
Maybe the screen is getting mixed signals, being cracked and all.
Any ideas?

I am not really knowledgable about the exact interworkings of the HD2's internal hardware. But I do think it would be a pretty fair assumption that the cracked screen could be the cause of the sudden battery drain. You know your HD2 better than anybody else would as far as daily functionality of your HD2. So if it was not having a battery drain before you cracked the screen. And now you do after and this is the singular change in the state of the HD2 be it hardware wise or software wise. Then logic would say that is it.
Have you thought any about it might not just be the screen that is cracked. What about the internals. How hard did it hit, and how hard was the object the phone hit????
One last thing, be nice to your HD2, it is nice to you. ha ha ha....... But really take it easy on the hardware.
I trimmed the tape on it down to only covering the glass (finger protection mostly) and got it off the edges and out from around the back. This seemed to really help. I've noticed from the beginning of owning this phone that there are some sensitive spots on the sides that when pressure is applied the phone acts like a button was pressed etc. So I must have been causing this. Even with the screen off it was still reading a button push and having to process this action, using power.
I need to find a hard shell for the phone. The rubber thing that came with it is useless as it sticks in your pocket, I need smooth hard plastic I guess. The phone slipped out of my hand as I was getting out of the car and landed face down. Pure accident.

I too have notice the same thing about my HD2 that ertain areas around the edge are sensative, like you said almost like you were pressing abutton of some sort. I am glad you figured something out that helps stop the battery drain. I know that can be agrevating as hell.
If you have a T-Mobile HD2 like I do you could try the Body Glove. I have one on mine, it is a two piece hard plastic cover you HD2 slides up in. ig has a pull out kickstand on the back also, I really like it. It has help protect my HD2 several times when I accidently dropped it out of my hand. I do warn you though after having it on your HD2 for awhile it will make to little scuff marks of the clear coat on your battery cover. Also I have notice I have to make sure I have a ferm grip on it when I pick it up cause the plastic cover is a little slick not like when gou have the rubber case on it. I attached two photos of the cover, oh and you can buy it from T-mobile store or from the T-Mobile website. I suggest website it is cheaper there.
