SITUATION
My Cingular 8500 does not power on. I have tried connecting it to wall charger as well as USB cable. The red or the orange light also does not come on. I tried all resets also but nothing worked.
BACKGROUND
a. My phone suddenly went off when I was opening the sliding keyboard. It had a decent (60%) charge at that time. After this it refuses to come on.
b. Only addition to the phone in the last 3 months has been a 2GB MicroSd Card. I inserted this card 4 days back and it was working fine.
c. The device is around 6 months old (but its unlocked, running WM6 and does not have any warranty)
d. I have been using the original wall charger to charge this phone regularly.
HELP REQUIRED
1. Is there a way to check if the problem is with the battery or with the phone? I do not have a spare battery.
2. Should any light come on if I connect the phone to charger without the battery inserted in it?
Thanks!
Try this:
1.) Remove battery
2.) Connect Hermes to charger or USB
3.) Insert the battery while Hermes is connected to charger
4.) Red light should turn Amber
5.) Soft Reset
i have the same situation going on ... except with mine the screen faded out...it came back on once...and faded out again and will not turn back on.. when i put it on the charger it was a red light.. and will not turn on or soft reset, or enter bootloader or hard reset. .. in addition i tried the method above and nothing has worked.... any other suggestions...my phone was working fine when this happened out of nowhere... i dont have insurance either i bought the phone from someone off of craigslist..help is greatly appreciated
I am having the exact same problem, I had about 30% charge, then it just shut off, and now will not come back on under its own power or via USB nor charger. I tried connecting the charger then inserting the battery, but I do not get any indicator lights at all.
I was running WM6, and the most recent thing installed was the pointUI home screen replacement app.
has anyone experienced this before?

It wont power on threw charger without a "good" battery plugged in.
Sounds like u might have a bad battery. Happend to a friend of mine "different phone" just go to a local Radioshack If they have your type of battery and have one in stock they will most likely let you try one on your phone. If not just go to ATT wireless store and see if they have one you can try and buy.

Dear demo23019, I am not sure if I understand the above correctly. Should the Power LED light up "red" when battery is not inserted?
Once I connect the phone to charger (wall or USB), without the battery inserted in it, no red light comes on.
Does this mean that there is some problem with the phone hardware?

Yea the power LED should light up red with out a battery plugged in. Check the usb plug on the bottom of your phone, make sure the middle piece inside is still there and didnt break off.

Oops. My phone's power LED does not light up when I connect it to the charger without the battery inserted in it.
I have checked the following :
a. usb plug is fine (I checked it by plugging it into the Y cable for the USB charger. The LED on the Y cable lights up when I connect the USB plug into it
b. The middle piece inside the socket at the bottom of the phone is still there and shows no signs of damage.
c. The wall charger is also working fine.
Does this conclude that the phone has a hardware fault and this is not linked to the battery being dead?
Similar Problems
I just had the same problem. I had it happen to my Att Tilt and then to my cingular 8525. You should check out this thread and maybe post your info there too, it would be nice to see everybody post in the same thread so we can figure out what's going on.

yh
yh i got the same problem, i touched the power button so it wld go into standby, and it then refused to turn back on, even when i soft resetted it. Plugged it into the wall charger without the battery and there is no red power light coming on.
I've got a MDA Vario II and though im gettin a replacement, it kinda sucks as it seems im gna lose all my data
can we try to determine in more detail what people installed before they experienced this?
I just pulled it apart, and cleaned the inside to no avail, nothing seems to be awry, atleast not to my untrained eye, however it did get me thinking.
I listen to music on my tytn all the time, and over time the usb connector has become quite loose, frequently losing connections over activesync and music comes and goes from both lef and right. if the USB connector is shot, then when I plug it in it won't register that there is power, nor will it have the power to light up the red light indicating there is no battery. also, if the usb link is shot, then the phone wasn't charging so my battery is likely dead.
now to test this out I need to have a verified 100% charged battery.
I currently have the same problem. It will not charge via wall/usb. It flashes red once and that's it. Without the battery and plugged in, I get a solid red light. I tried plugging it into the wall charger without a battery and then putting my battery back in. The red light just turns off. That's it. I can get an active sync connection with a dim white screen, but I do not have enough juice to try flashing a new rom. If anyone has issues like these, are you also able to get an activesync connection?
TIA
EDIT: Is it possible to bypass the low battery protection when flashing a rom? My battery is somewhere around 40% so it would be safe.
Update:
Okay, I purchased a new oem battery and a battery charging dock. This way I can charge the battery without the phone before I attempt to flash a new rom.
I still would appreciate it if anyone who has seen these symptoms (white screen BUT with lots of vibrating / no charging / no bootloader) could give me a few pointers. I've exhausted the Wiki and so far it seems my only option to save the phone is to flash a new rom. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to give me some advice.
Hi guys,
I've got my Nexus One since early 2010, which was working like a charm until last weekend.
I was sleeping in a tent at a festival, and the phone slept in like 2 drops of water for the whole night. During the night I felt it vibrated, I think it was the "I'm dead" vibration, although it was at 47% when I got to sleep.
In the morning, I saw like 3 drops of water behind the screen glass. The ball was glowing green, although I don't remember setting any notification to this color.
I tried to put the screen on with ball click, power button click, power button long click, power button long click + volume up or down or ball... nothing.
So I thought it was dead. I went to charge it, the charing LED was RED instead of the usual orange. But it charged, and now it's working fine.
Problem is, when I plug it to the wall charger or USB or car dock, the LED is always RED and never orange nor green.
When I plug USB, windows is saying (translated from french) "USB Device not recognized. One of the USB devices connected to this computer did not work well, and Windows does not recognize it. Click this message to show help."
If I slighly move the cable, without unplugging, the message keeps popping like once every 2-3 seconds.
I don't know what to do. I can use wireless ADB, which is good if my laptop is using internet over wifi, but it's not working if the laptop gets internet from an ethernet socket. Indeed, windows does not know which interface to use to reach the phone, and it tries over ethernet...
Any idea? Would it be worth it to open it and try to remove rust?
Thanks
Regards
Edit: would it be possible to move this to Q&A? I guess I posted in the wrong section. My apologies about that.
I have a Mytouch 4g (I got it in this condition from somebody else, so i dont know the history).. phone seems be in mint condition and from what i can tell it never got disassembled.
Phone seems to be completely dead, when i power on, nothing comes up, no boot splash etc.. but something odd happened when i plug it in to my computer.. it started blinking orange light and i noticed that my computer detected a USB mass storage device and such. still the phone wont boot for any combination of buttons. the orange blinking light stops few seconds after i remove the cable. Battery seems to have gotten charged by this phone. My computer shows a new "removable drive".. but my SD card that i put in it cannot be accessed.
anything i can try? any ideas? i do see that when its plugged in, if i hold power button down, it will stop blinking and then starts blinking again.

You're battery is completely drained. If you have an HTC charger plug it in and let it sit. After awhile the blinking orange light will turn in to a steady orange light to indicate that it is charging. It has nothing to do with bricking, you just have a dead battery

negative on that. i put a fully charged battery from my other MT4G into this one. when its not plugged in, i dont get any blinking light. when i have it plugged in, its constantly blinking.
also, everytime i connect it the computer, it does detect the USB . i get the connection sound through the PC speaker
I have Pdanet installed.. I tried with my other mt4g, powered it off, connected to the computer.. USB is detected and the PDANet detects the phone being attached (even though the phone is off), orange light stays solid
when i connect the MT4G (bricked).. USB gets detected, Pdanet never detects a phone being attached.. orange light keeps blinking
is it possible that the phone is not detecting the battery? or the battery status?

Connect your phone to a wall charger and let it charge for at least 2 hours. When the led shines red and is not blinking anymore try to hold power and volume up for 10 seconds. If your device vibrates it is all fine and should continue charging.
Xperia is now without display, that's why cannot vibrate or play. I charging for 12 hours, and do nothing. Red led shining still. Without connected to charging.
Can it power on while connected to charger? Because red LED flashing means that battery needs charging.
The battery is probably damaged, usually this is because it's capacity as dropped below safe recharge level - but for whatever reason, the internal safety control on the battery will not allow you to recharge it due to risk of explosion.
If the device works while plugged into a charger, then it is definitely a battery problem. You could try disconnecting the battery (requires disassembly of course) to confirm this - from memory, the Z will actually power on OK without any battery connected but running on USB power.
If it srill doesn't work, then yes it must be some kind of damage in the power management part of hardware.

the phone wont turn on, any time I plug it into the charger the green light just blinks. If I hold the volume down and plug it in, I get in fast boot, but anytime I hit start it starts blinking green again and wont do anything. Any tips on how to get the phone powered up?
Thanks,
in my opinion, it looks like it wont charge. Is there any way to get around this?
Thanks
Usually leaving plugged in wall charger helps.

Same problem here. I left it charging overnight and nothing.
Mine did this too, the charge port was fried. The turbo 2 is wireless enabled, pick up a wireless charger. I also got Velcro strips, one on the charger, one on the back of my phone. So it stays in place

I had the same problem two weeks ago. I took it to a nearby phone repair shop. The battery was fried/dead.
Green blinking light means that your phone has 0% battery and can't get out that state. In my case the battery was not "absorbing" charge at all. Batteries are pretty cheap in eBay and there are tutorials in eBay. In my case I paid $40 to have it replaced.
Motorola Droid Turbo 2 - phone won't turn on, green blinking light
This has happened to me three time so far. The first time that this happened to me it was December 2016 and it was due to the charging port which was fried. I bought a wireless charger, got the phone to turn on, and sent the phone to be replaced.
The second time this happened was December 2017. The wireless charger did not help and neither did the wall charger. I waited a few days for the battery to completely drain, plugged the phone in and it turned on with 34% battery.
The third time that this happened (same phone from December 2017) was today, January 2018. Verizon will not replace the phone if it will not turn on and I won't send it in without removing my information.
My only advice is to let it completely die and then try to turn it on and plug it in. Then never buy a Motorola Droid Turbo 2 again, because it is a piece of **** phone.
