No 'Storage' after resizing and hard resetting - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

I did the redoc to get 31mb of ram or whatever and 120mb of program and it works and all but when I goto file explorer there is no 'storage' and when i try to look for it in start > settings > memory there is no storage, should I hard reset maybe its a glitch or somethings wrong?

Storage Memory Low

Anybody know why my Device storage memory is being used so much when I install everything on the internal storage card? The device should not be getting used right? But it says I have 6mb free and it keeps throwing low device memory errors.
go to opera program and delete the cache files
if you use internet explorer delete the cache files
there is some program like S2U2 ,S2P, S2V, SPB MOBILE install automaticlly to phone memory even if you choose internal storage
go to /program files and see what programs is there.
guys is there any tweak that turn off the low device memory notification
Thanks! Is there anyway to move those program files to the internal storage and still have them work? And is it possible to change Opera to store the history and cache to the internal storage instead of the device?
If you're using a theme, some of them uses up ~20Mb of storage.

GOOD TO KNOW! I am using the blue and white tf3d theme. I'll remove it and see if that helps

you can move opera cache to internal storage by editing the .ini file in /windows/opera9
you can find info about this by searching the forum
pmClean will clear the cache etc for you
I use mem maid seems to clear cach and restore lots of other memory.
sktools can move dll's, applications and other thingies to internal storage. it also has some shadow services that clears memory, .. etc, as i recall

Understanding rom / ram / memory / storage

Sorry if this has been posted before, I've serached to no avail. I'm trying to better understand the whole ROM/RAM thing, and have a few questions that will clarify whats going on
a) Without having an SD card, if I copy a file to, say, the "My Documents" folder on the phone, does this get stored on the ROM, or the RAM?
b) I've recently done a hard-reset to restore back to factory settings, but afterwards found some folders on the phone that aren't "factory" (Swype for instance). I thought a hard-reset wiped out all data and replaced it, no?
c) If I were to somehow completely wipe the storage area of my phone (Program files / Windows / ConnMgr folders for instance), would a hard-reset be enough to restore functionality? If so, where would the system files come from?
d) Is the 448Mb RAM used solely for CPU execution, and is wiped by soft-reset or removing the battery?
Sorry if these questions are real basic, but necessary in order to further understand whats going on

a) ram on the HD2 is just like the ram of your home computer... it's not for storage, but for program runtime memory
b) may be weird, unless you had a swype folder that came with your stock rom in the first place and you didn't know anyway the plain hard reset doesn't properly format your internal storage memory, that's why tools like task29 exist; it may be possible that folder "survived" the hard reset, even if I find it strange
c) those files would come from the "ROM" after a hard reset the internal storage memory is 512MB, there are "partitions" in it, for radio, rom image, and user files, when you delete system files on your device you are not really deleting the files from the rom image, so they will just be restored after hard reset. Someone please correct me if I'm writing wrong pieces of information
d)yes, again it's just like your pc's ram. Back in the times, old pda's had a pool of "ram" that was used practically for everything, and was in fact shared between program runtime excecution, and files storage, while their "rom" wasn't user writeable, and reserved for just the OS image (thinking about my very first WinCE device now, casio cassiopeia, quite some years have passed!), so if you removed the battery and your backup battery ran out, you would lose your files. HD2 instead has his persistent memory chip, the 512MB/1024MB rom chip, so you won't lose any data without power, but surely your ram chips will.
Thanks for your reply! Just to make sure I've got this right:
The HD2 has:
448MB RAM - volatile / battery dependant memory that is used for program
execution just like in a PC
512MB "storage memory" - non-volatile memory where the windows system
files, program files, music files and "my documents" are stored. Kind of like
the HDD in a PC
512MB ROM - stores the operating system and factory files that are copied
to the "storage memory" in the event of a hard reset. These files can only
be changed by flashing a new ROM image.
A Hard Reset wont format the "storage memory", it will just replace certain
files and folders from the ROM image.
A smaller, or lite ROM image will result in more "storage memory" after a
hard reset
Have I got this basically correct?
If so, one last quick question:
Task29 formats the "storage memory" correct? So I should be able to Task
29 and then a hard reset will get things back up and running without
having to do any flashing of the ROM?
Many thanks in advance
Can anyone confirm the above post?

The ROM is the storage memory. There is only RAM and ROM... that is it. The ROM is partitioned into sections for radio, OS image, etc. Running Task29 will format the ROM, but will erase the OS image, so you will need to flash a rom after doing task29.

Usually this is what I do. Run Task29. Then after it shows 100%, I hold the VOL DOWN button. Flash the ROM (I flash custom ROMS, you can flash Stock ROMS if you like) with the CPU +USB. After the ROM finishes and shows 100%, hold VOL UP+DOWN to do a hard reset.
Let the first round of ROM fully setup. Then do another hard reset after that. This fully wipes everything off for me and return me to a clean slate that is MUCH more cleaner than ever before.
This is the equivalent of a secure erase on an SSD using the Secure Erase from UCSD's magnetic research facility. It wipes out everything so clean, the police wont be able to trace it if they tried.

So from what you're saying... if I copy a file into the My Documents folder, this effectively gets stored on ROM, right?

Correct. All your internal storage is on the rom.

Are you sure it doesn't need free system memory have a look in /system with es file explorer and delete some apps

Why is my internal storage so full?

So ES File explorer says my internal storage is 22.8 GB / 23.3 GB (98% full) I have disabled the recycle bin, and estrongs folder is only 12 MB. I try going through all the folders and checking their size, and I can't add up to more than a few hundred MB.
I plug my phone in to my computer to see if it will be faster for me to look around, and sure enough, Windows says there are 517 MB free out of 23.2 GB. I look around, and once again, I can't find any large folders.
Going to Applications > Settings > System > Storage on the phone shows 31.5 GB used out of 32.0 GB.
Samsungs "My Files" app also shows the same as above.
Both My Files and ES File Explorer show 98-99% of the internal storage is taken up by "other" files. What could this be? How do I get rid of it?
+1 Interested as well. My others is 500mb but I'd like to be proactive, since I can't find the "other" files.
Thanks in advance.
I was having the same issue a while back. I suddenly got a notification that my device storage was almost full. What confused me was that I barely download much and most of what I save is on my SD card. Tried deleting apps and stuff but the storage seems to fill up on its own somehow.
Though I eventually found it to be cache saved on the phone. I used CCleaner from the PlayStore and I cleared up around 17 GB of cache... which is a lot. Try using a cache/file cleaning app like CCleaner or similar and see if it works for you as well. I haven't noticed any changes on my phone either so I still wonder what stacked up so much cache!

I hope this will help
Bump.
Does anyone know of a good method to browse all the files on the internal storage? I really can't trace what is taking up so much space....

I just tried CCleaner, and it "deleted" 13.76GB Thumbnail Cache. But right above that it still says I have 22.53GB/24.19GB used.
Like many others in this thread I am trying to locate the hidden data on my inetrnal storage, no tool I have tried thus far will tell me where pr what this data is and allow me to nuke it manually. Doing a factory reset is not only rediculous but counter intuative - I shdould be able see WTF this data is and bloody well nuke it.

Free Space after Factory Reset 1.38GB?

I am running out of memory on my Redmi 2 Prime (16GB memory and 2GB RAM). When I do a reset I still have only 1.38GB available.
I only want to run a few apps but run out of space after updating a few times.
How can I free up more space?
Thanks!
I have tried the reset option through the Settings menu, and I did a hard reset using the Up and Power buttons and the system menus. Same result
Is there a custom ROM that is smaller and stable?
Did a hard reset and the amount of free space reduced even further
If it still doesn't fixed up, have you check that your internal storage is empty? (No Files)
Try to reset from the MiRecovery menu. (Power+Volume Up+Volume Down)
Have checked Media and Downloads. Can check for local backup of settings by MIUI.
Would have expected factory reset to clear these, but probably a good idea to check
