For the people with XDA EXEC, does O2 deliver to the United States? Because I want to signup for there plan.
You need to be a UK resident, and I doubt very much they would ship outside of the UK.
O2 XDA Exec is available SIM free from here for UKP550:
http://www.buymobilephones.net/store/merchant-4-38-477-phones.ihtml
Or if have a friend in the UK ask them to buy the Exec from www.o2.co.uk (online deal) and the annual cost will be around UKP390
I tried using my US-based Amex with my cousin's bank account info in London and the damn O2 site STILL declined to sell it to me. I had a London-based address and everything.
You can do this, you just need someone in the UK to get it for you. It's very quick and pain free but you do need a local bank account AND a local credit card all shipped to the SAME address. Too many checks (it's a good thing, I guess). Anyway, I gave up after trying a few times to do this sitting on a bluetooth gprs connection in the middle east that costs 3 quid a megabyte. Sigh.

Short and Sweet.
I want One and I want one NOW.
If you are anywhere that sells the new XDA2 let me know and I will arrange some thing.
Contract free of corse
Unlocked , sim free, no ties,, JUST IT HAS TO BE LEGAL>

[Edit to add - hadn't refreshed the screen since your original post  so didn't notice the sim free bit  ]
Any Idea on cost ?
I am in currently Australia.. But I can have some one pop up there.
Do you know the price and do they sell them contract free. I just want the unit. No plans or nothing.
I'm from France, and I just phone O2...
Unfortunatelly, they want you to have a bank account in UK to sell it to you, (because of the 12 months contract, I think !)
I told them, I can pay the whole thing in one time, but no way ... , and they don't sell it SIM FREE :x , even full price .
So sorry ... :?
£349 & not Sim Free
Hum so maybe not available as a walkin and buy it thing.
And then they wonder why there is such a big market in stolen and simunlocked equipment.
Stupid airtime people.
So to cost it further.
£349 for the phone
£20 x 12 for the contract + £20 for last month
I would be happy at £609. Is that a lot in this world I ask ?
**** I would make that back in the first application I develop for one person.
But still pinching pennys ...
Is there a charge for having the phone unlocked (by O2)
so that it is sim free after the contract ?
I assume that I can just terminate the contract early giving notice and the outstanding amount or let my mate use free time on the Sim for the year.
then cancel it after that.
If we looked at this with a slant.
The Telcos (service providors) are using Phones like the tobacco companies use the cigerette.
Once you are hooked the device is just the method of delivering the services that will generate ongoing revenue from your useage.
Steve
Totaly slanted
£15 per month....
Wait to see how long it takes before someone on here works out how to unlock it & save the money
Getting better.
Hum ok calculator out again.
15 x 12 wow thats only £23.50 including vat.
£544 plus unlocking charge.. ?? Looking better.
Has any body ever paid it if so how much was it and is it the same for all phones.!
Steve
dont you have to add the price of sending the xda2 across the earth if it's from uk in a manner which makes sure it's not damaged ?
On US eBay, www.ebay.com, search i mate
98 items for sale "Buy it Now" at US$ 999.00 shipping included by FedEx,
unlocked.
Shipped from Hong Kong (O2 Asia) but seller is in San Francisco.
Seller's feedback looks OK.
Expensive, yes, but if you are rushed...
They are kicking about on expansys now for £572
T-mobile in Germany for EUR 605
And @ T-mobile in Germany for EUR 605.00 simlock free.
But then you have the German language operation system.
1. What a diff between UK & GR ? How come
2. How do we solve the German bit ?
I was looking at the O2 site yesterday hoping to pick up an XDA Exec but now I do not see any mention of it. The handset is no longer available. Is it still available in O2 shops ??
Looking at the price of the Orange device (M5000) O2 seem to be offering the best deal at the moment.
Yep still on sale in O2 shops.
Got mine yesterday - i'd advise phoning ahead first to save a wasted journey.
Its in the Business section under PDAs.
It is curious as to why.
Could be that stock is low for personal users OR O2 have realised that this is not really a personal device and is much more suited to business users. Unfortunately this leaves O2 with only the IIi that they can sell to the personal user, this could induce a fast track tot he next device.
PS XDA IIi now only £79.99 on any contract
Ordered mine friday..
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/o2/7839.htm
Stock is shifting like weldfire, so get in there quick..... o2 said the device was 149 online but 199 in the shops, got mine for 90 on a 35 quid contract which i'll be dropping down as soon as i can.
Got mine through store upgrade, £149 on £30/month (12 months). O2 store in London Wall str. Not bad. After last year out-of-stock experiences with the IIs and IIi, this time I went to the store and got it straight away no need to hang around waiting for the postman Always miss them.
Only out of stock?
I phoned the O2 "online help" number this morning, and spoke to a chap who assured me that it was only off the web page because it was out of stock. He was unable to give me a date for new phones arriving in, but was certain it would be coming back for personal customers.
Works for me, as I still have two months of my "3" contract to run...
Fingers crossed he knew what he was talking about.
regards,
/alan
Again, it must depend on who you get through to as I was assured on Friday that they had a lot of stock left of them.
I wonder if certain centres are advising different customers differently for any reason.

I sent them a email and they said:
"Thank you for contacting O2 Customer Service and showing your interest in our product and services.
The O2 XDA EXEC 3G phone will be launched on 17 November 2005. For more information in this regard, please contact our Sales team on 08702 257 879. They are available Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 9:00pm and Saturday from 10:00am to 6:00pm. Calls are charged at national rate."
Don't know what that means.
The girl on O2 said the phone were coming on the 16th, maybe o2 might put them back on the 3g contract...
Its back at the online store for personal buyers
Mine fell 2 feet from my pocket on Saturday and died instantly - no visible damage - after 3 weeks of use. I phoned O2 for a replacement and they said they were expecting stock on 17th Nov. The website states that you should take the phone to your nearest O2 shop but the shop told me to ring customer services since the phone was under a month old.
Just picked up my nice Free, No charge not cost, XDA Mini S (O2 UK Name for Wizard) rom O2 store Uxbridge, Get em while there hot boys, they said they don't know how long they will be able to keep up with demand on them,
Regards Ashe
What tariff did you get it free on? Thanks.
Incredible, i just payed 240Euros here in Paris on a one year contract with Bouygues telecom. If its indeed free, thats a heck of a deal!!!!
I paid 209€ with Prolongation of my contract with T-Mobile!
But I don´t care!
I´m glad to have it.. and its great!
Just ordered my XDA mini s from o2 Germany for 279€ in prolongation of my o2 Genion pay monthly contract. I just can await to recieve it, hopefully a o2 representative told me the Wizard is still in stock
Mine was free on T-Mobile
In each country the extent to which mobile phone operators subsidise devices differs. In the UK, TMobile is being very aggressive and buys customers away from other networks, as TMobile was notr very successful in the UK until last summer. O2 is not as aggressive as TMobile but successful, and Orange is even less aggressive -not sure it is as successful as it once was.
In Europe, I think they tend to subsidise handsets to a lesser extent than in the UK. It reflects the intensity of the competition where in the Uk you've got 4+1 networks, plus a myriad of MVNOs, making a total of around 10 to 12 operators. Penetration rates are also high. In France, penetration rate is lower -around 80%- so there are other ways to grow than by stealing customers of competing networks. Plus, there are only 3 real networks plus a small number of MVNOs, making a total of only 6 networks.
That's the answer to the points raised above!
Best for business 250
Hi again all
I got mine free from O2, because I am on best for business 250, little known fact but if you are on a Best for business tarrif and have more than one number attatched to the account you are guaranteed a free upgrade of virtually any handset on each number so I know get two two totally free upgrades a year at six month intervals, great.
Now just going to use some the money I saved on the Wizard to buy the new Krusell case & Lazer/Led keyboard, oh and put my current XDA's on EBAY for another healthy profit.
Regards Ash'e.
Just my luck, I wanted to get a XDA Mini-S, and they showed me the email.
All phones must be sold with a voice tariff from today.
I actually went to two stores just to check, and it's true.
Gutted, but I got an Exec off them for 99 a fortnight ago, so I'm not that gutted
Joe
I bought my o2 Exec on the 15/1/05 and paid £229.99 + Data 36 Tariff and Gold Insure Monthly. It wasn't until I got home that I read the brochure which said the price should have been £99.99.
Been busy last few days in meetings so only had chance to visit shop today. Apparently their regional manager is going to ring me back regarding this overcharging.
Glad to read another person had actually bought the exec at the brochure price of £99.99, makes me hopeful for a refund which will go towards my Tomtom Gps Bundle.
Don't get your hopes up too much; I think brochures had the sticker over that part well before then, so unless you got the brochure on the 15th and they accept it, then they may not do it for you.
Sorry to piss on your strawberry patch, but be prepared...
Hope it works out for you though Be persistent.
Don't worry about that email. If you want a voice tariff, ask for
"data centric". It's a free voice tariff where calls are charged at PAYG rate. I have this added on to my data 5, so you should still be able to do the original deal you were after.
Good luck
Euan
what about the group 5 tariff?
Group 5 – available as data only. It has voice at payg rates
Minimum 5 users £5 per user per month. so get 5 mini-s's flog 4 on ebay!

Just a thought!
I am currently with Vodafone and want to upgrade my handset to a 1605 VPA Compact III or equivilent. Is this handset available in the UK? I know some members have one.
I have been into Vodafone shops, they have never heard of it. I have tried looking on the Vodafone website as well, no luck. Phoned Vodafone's upgrade department, they have the Qtek 9100 Qtek 1640 and VPA Compact (but not III) Any ideas how I can get the 1605 and from where?
Thanks.
Ask for the HTC v1605 or the QTek v1605. That is what it is called on their systems (When I ordered it it was the Qtek v1605, but on the order form it is HTC v1605). For a detailed review, look here. Also just call the upgrade dept, as you should get one of the newer ones (HT631x S/N).
Thanks for the info bydandie. I'll phone them later. Do you mind telling me how much you paid for the upgrade?
I got mine on ebay from phone_efficient_ltd for £320

I got mine new, for £72.95 on Anytime 250 STC.
Shop around on the T-Mobile website and work out which deal you could get with them then ask Voda to match it. If they can't, then unless T-Mob have a poor signal, I'd recommend moving as the WnW on FlexT is awesome! 8)
(BTW if you go down the T-Mob route, I think we could both get a referral fee IIRC)
Vodafone upgrade dept did have the handset, listed as HTC v1605. Spoke to one of the loyalty/promotions managers after I suggested I'm tempted to leave, he said the absolute best deal I could get the handset for is £200 on my current tariff Anytime 200. Even if I increased my tariff they couldn't drop the price of the handset. It's T-Mobile or Orange unless Vodafone decide to offer me a better deal.
bydandie, can you PM me your T-M referral details in case I do go with them.
i got my one free on a 35 month contract from voda, go in store and ask for a discount. make sure you go do a Voda staore that has a business deptartment.

bobby, did you sign up as a new customer or just upgrade?
I got mine as an upgrade from voda in august for £80 on my existing £22/month tariff. Nobody had heard of it at that time and looks like they still haven't really. Am on my 4th handset now, first one was early S/N and had screen alignment problem almost immediately, next two were later S/N and didn't have screen problems but had unresponsive keys, 4th one is worryingly back at the earlier S/N but so far has no screen problems at all and all keys work perfectly 3 weeks in.

Thats a terrible price, I got my Vario2 (the T Mobile brand name) for £29.99 with an 18m FlexT 35 WnW Plus contract for £47.50 per month. Comes with £5 off for the first 3 months as a business customer as well.
Now these handsets are £500 on Expansys without a contract so over 12months I'll have paid £599.99 and ended up with the same phone (that comes with support), £180 call/text allowance a month and 3Gb net access on a 3.5G aka HSDPA or 2.75G aka Edge network, and can get through to customer services within 2mins.
I never got through to Orange even when I was a business customer in that amount of time, in fact I got fed up with the 30min wait trying to get through to orange in the past so I'm very pleased with T Mobile.
I think they have realised that net access will drive the 3.5G/HSDPA technology forward in the short term not video calls or streaming tv services, which will account for their fantastic WebNWalk packages. (a very happy customer so far)
This morning Vodafones upgrade dept offered it to me for £39.99 as long as I stay with them on my current tariff for another 18 months. Seemed a fair deal so I ordered it. Arrives tomorrow morning
Mine arrived yesterday. Cost me £25 for the phone so that I didn't leave I'm on Anytime 200. The first time they quoted me a price they said over £200 so I just asked for my PAC code and I got transferred to the retension department who said I could have it for £25 on my current tariff. I did mention that you could get it from Orange free on a £30 a month contract.
If you want one off contract (SIM FREE) then I am selling my spare one here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....90044423776&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MESE:IT&rd=1
