Is there anyway to turn on the torch / video light next to the camera on the back without loading the camera program?
I have Battery Pack Pro which has a 'Power Light' function but it just sets the main screen to white, whereas the light on the back is MUCH brighter.
The camera program is simple enough but it takes a little while to load and a simple icon would be much quicker I imagine.

...or even better: this light button (3sec hold?)
(ehh, dreams...)
Cheers!

Does this mean no one knows how to do it?!?
Roo
It would appear that way! Come on guys, there is someone here who knows how to do this!
So did anyone find out how to do this??
The thread below addresses that, and apparently someone did that via mortscript :

can it be done?
the problem starts when trying to use "destinator" (a navigationg software) at night, and having it nightblind you into an accident...heh
the screen is just to bright at night and i am too lasy to dim it ....lol
besides, it would be so much cooler that the time based auto dimmers ....
if someone cares to take it as a project, PLEASE!, here are some notes in no particular order ...
1. several dimming levels to select (both for day time and night time, maybe sliders)
2. taskbar icon for easy on/off switching
3. screen "undimming" on key press option (only as an option, not a must)
4. auto load with windows, and resident in memory (obviously)
5. program's definitions must override the windows' brightness definitions ! (only if the program isn't turned off )
thanks !
p.s.
if something like this already exists, please ho pretty please let me know !
Look for Phone Alarm. It has options on dimming the backlight depending on which setting you have it. You can confugure what time the settings take effect. So basically, the items you were requesting can all be done using Phone Alarm: http://www.pocketmax.net/phoneAlarm.html
I think he wants it to do it depending on the light levels, using the universal's keyboard's light sensor, NOT on timing...

If this is the case, then this would even be better. Hope someone can figure it out.
Saw this question posed in one of the treo forums with no solution so far. Would anyone else be interested in a standby application that displayed the date and time, similar to what the Treo Pro does and S60 devices. See the attached pic to see what I am talking about. Since the Treo Pro is running windows mobile I wonder about the feasibility of extracting the app.
VERY interested to see time quickly!
Seconded! Would like this very much
this would be nice
I am intrested in this too. I will be very usefull for meny of us
(hand in the air)
I would like this feature very much, yes.
Thanks for asking, and thanks for being willing to have a go.
Yep, I miss that from my Nokia
I've read that devices that are able to do this have a "special" kind of screen (something about having multiple screen layers)... can anyone validate that claim? The easiest way to test this would be for someone to try to extract the screensaver from a Treo Pro rom.
Jep, would be nice. And would keep me from buying a watch, which saves my loads of money
i miss that from my W800i
every morning..i would just press the volume button and it would glow and show the time.
i also noticed no other touchscreen has this standby time.. maybe due to their screen technology?
You could set you X1 to glow up if you press a button and could view the clock from the Sony Panel.
S2U2 does this
essentially if ur pressing ur volume button to make the screen glow and show the time..isnt it as much as pressing the power button to see ur screen?

This is not the same thing... the Treo Pro implementation essentially turns the backlight off but keeps the screen "active" to allow for the date and time to display which considerably saves battery life.
HI guys.
Does anyone have any idea how to make control of the X1 illumination LEDs in normal state ?
Because to see the phone while it's in the dark or at night.
My last phone before Xperia X1 is SE W900i. The small LED at the side of it make me easily to identify my phone when it's in the dark especialy at night.
In summary, I need to keep the X1 illumination LED blink every time when the phone is ON.
This is just a small thing.
I've found something in registry editor at :HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SonyEricsson\Illumination\Patterns
Buy I dont know how to deal with it.
use XperiaTweak in options it has a possibility to manage leds
Xperiatweak will not give him the ability to have the LEDS always on.
What I suggest is you send yourself a text message or something and never open it.
I turned my whole ullumination off because I hated it at night. ^^
i find it usfull at night as i keep my phones volume low and just have to look at it to see if i have a missed anything or if its still charging
I'd love to see some registry entries which controls the leds. =)
it would be nice to make own patterns. why didn't they make the all the side en not at the top en end i like the leds and find them usefull.
I would absolutely love a function to stop power waste when your battery is low. Yes, i responded to the 'low battery' message already. No, i don't need flashing lights, buzzes or beeps to remind me and further waste the power. Request for Xperia Tweak to have a "disabled" setting in the LED lighting menus!

You can already do this via the built-in functions (no need for a tweak program at all)
Settings > System Tab > Illumination ... uncheck the "Enable illumination" box

I already done it, But the LED is disapear for no reason even when set at Sounds & Notifications to put it on for no limited time.
Also, it would be really cool if:
- The leds are creating ambi-light for your movies.
- The leds as a visualizer for my music..
i would looooveeee to have my LEDs read out my sms using morse code.....
Hmm.. But seriously.. I'd love if I could have the leds pulsate like "low battery" but in purple or green color when idle.
I'm also interested in this, just wish i knew where to start lol

Most welcome
well would there be a way of making the led's act as a service light? like on the 8925 and 8525 they both would have a led light that blinks when you had service.
I'm also looking for a way of changing led colors in the registry
Okay I apologise in advance to potential flamers.
I thought it was possible to use the flash as a torch without any extra cab/app but am I correct in assuming that this is not the case as I must source an app to do this? I have search the HD2 forums and all threads seem to discuss apps....
Don't know why I thought I saw this function on the phone when I got it....
Anyway if not is Torchbutton the simplest?
Is using the flash for this preferable to having the screen go bright [is this even possible?]
Thanks
search for "torchbutton". works a treat.
Sure...simple...press the camera button, then hit the flash button twice..LEDs turn on...hit flash button again LEDs turn off!
No apps, hacks, cabs takes all of 2 seconds!
torchbutton is great, i use it every night to navigate the cellar to the top floor, heh, simple instant on/off quicklink on my home screen, job done. (theres another one floating about that takes 5 secs to start, very annoying)
wayyy brighter than using teh screen to navigate, , dont forget how dark most of the screens are on your phone, they just dont cut it.
There is also HTC Flashlight - you can choose between 3 different levels of brightness.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=630297&highlight=Flashlight
...and the 3rd one is really insanely bright
Hi I know there is an excellent app out which allows a little red square to appear on the screen when you get a notification.
I miss a notification led but was thinking could the lights for the touch buttonds be used instead, I was thinking used the menu button for email/text messages and the back button for missed calls as they kind of look like the right sort of symbols anyway, plus the screen wont need to be turned on at all ( the screen does produce some light when it is only a black background)
I will be taking tomorrow off work to attempt to learn android and possible make a simple live wallpaper but if anyone can point me in the right direction I may look at doing this also
a simple search pops up the original topic
"noled"

and then the exact same thing you asked is already on this other post
