Hi there..
I have recently brought an xda exec and the new leadtek GPS 9553 receiver.. When i try to connect to it, i cant.. It pairs up and i have a partnership between to two but it does not connect.. I have installed the leadtek navigation software and that boots up fine but the receiver jus wont connect.. I have been tryin to get this to work for 2 days now and i have made no progress.. =(
ANY help is much appreciated..
Thanks for your time and effort in advance. =)
Note..
On the xda i can only use:
COM0
COM4
COM8
All the others 'cannot be opened'.
On the leadtek navigation it tries to connect on either:
COM1 Serial_dbg
COM2 Serial_FIR
COM3 IrCOMM
COM6 Serial
COM7 Serial_BTU
COM9 QCTComposi
Plus.. When using tomtom, that only has:
QCT Data Interface
RIL on COM6:
COM7:
Serial Cable on COM1
Infrared Port
Ir on COM3:
Again.. Many thanks in Advance..
I have a slightly older model of the same bluetooth GPS as you (Leadtek 9537) - and can confirm that it works great with TomTom 5.10 on mine.
There is a long thread in this very forum about getting TomTom to 'see' bluetooth GPS receivers in Windows Mobile 5, I just followed the instructions in that thread and it worked a treat.
I have looked thru the forum about this topic and i have found a lot of useful information.. only problem is.. its the reciever and xda that i am findin hard to connect with each other not with tom tom..
Do you get the message "serial port device" etc and answer yes to the prompt?
Yeps.. i select the serial port check box and then the options on that are on screen are cancel, save and refresh.. so i press on save..
thats the end of it.. =S a partnership is created but no connection????
selectt the comport com 8 then save the settings
COM port 8 selected for new outgoing port.. nothings changed.. then i...

HI
i am new to this plaise help
i got SPV M1000 witch i install TOMTOM 4.00
the problem is when i click on tomtom navigator
i get this massage: gps position unreliable
plaise tell me STEP BY STEP how do ACTIVATE GPRS
coz i am new to this
tnx
Nice and easy....
Launch TT, goto config, goto GPS
If you have a little circle at the top right spinning then it's connected to your GPS device, however if you get a popup asking you to pair it, then do the following
Search in BT, you should find the GPS device, pair to it (dont use a code if asked)
Tick the allways connect to this device tick box, ok all the way out and TT should now be talking to the device
It will take a while to initially pick up satelites, you should see some grey bars and numbers in the GPS window inside TT.... Also make sure your outside
Hi King2,
are you getting GPS and GPRS confused?
you don't mention a GPS unit in your post (but you do mention GPRS)-- do you have one? TT is useless without.
the GPS unit (usually cabled/bluetooth) is basically a satellite receiver which TT uses to locate your position.
Hi,
GPS Position Unreliable means that the GPS Module not found any satelites.
When you don't have the module you don't get this message.
Then TomTom says GPS module not found.
I takes about a minute or so to conect to a satelite.
But you must be in a open space otherwise the module can't connect.
When you are between buildings the connection is difficult.
Hope this helps

Port Problem
Hi King2,
Did you paired the phone and the BT GPS?
It is where you put the BT on
Settings / Connections / Bluetooth / Devices / New
If you did there was a question about a bluetooth serial port connection.
You must answer yes or no. Use yes
If you tick yes, WM2003SE creates a BT Serial port.
I think in the text it also says what port was created. (i saw in a flash that is was BT Serial Port 5
In TomTom got to GPS and take BT Serial on Com 5
Uncheck the port 4.
I din't change the settings and when i just looked in the BT Settings only the Outbound Com port: 5 is checked and 4 is not
I hope this helps

I am having difficulties connecting the Jasjar with my GPS TELETYPE on BT.
The com ports are really confusing me. I am using Destinator 3, and after I have paired the GPS device, and have selected a serial port connection, Destinator can’t find a GPS receiver.
Have anyone successfully connect a BT GPS with Jasjar?

Hi, geovass.
Did you see the prompt that the device supports Serial Port Profile? If not did you try to delete the paired GPS and try to re-pair again?

I have done the pairing twice already. No, i dont get a prompt that the device supports Serial Port Profile.
I've got it working.....
First you've got to pair your GPS.
Then go to the "COM" tab in the bluetooth manager
Add a new outgoing port with the GPS as device
Then install you're navigation software !!!
It works fine in combination with the Jasjar, Emtac GPS and TomTom Navigator 5.1

On the outgoing port, which com should i add?
Choose one butt be sure you choose a free one and later choose the same on in your navigation software

I have done what you've describe, without installing the GPS SW (destinator) second. Do you think this is the case.
I can never match the com ports i use on the outgoing port and on the Navigaton software. The ports cant be the same...
It seems that i cant select any com ports on the outgoing port except from port0 and port8.
If i select one of those 2, i dont see them in Destinator's GPS settings tab.
Just used a hex editor to change the port manualy in Destinator.ini and it worked like charm !
I have the same issue. I can only connect com 0, 4 or 8 to my Emtac but TomTom5 only shows 6 and 7...
Anyboby who can help?

Me too have had the universal for a week now tried reg hacks utils etc cant get it to use com 0 4 8 evean if enable wm2005 GPS to remap ports ...
same port with bluetooth com ports for syncing
I have encountered the same problem as u, but while trying to get bluetooth connection to sync with PC... so far no luck...
I know the trick is to select COM5 for the Outgoing Port in your GPS, and then, somehow, make TT5 show the COM5. In order to do that, some hacking must be done at the registry which I have no idea how to do that.
BT GPS with another GPS software

Hi,
I have the same problem - no virtual COM port - how did you make it ?
I tried every setting in TOM-TOM and nothing changed. Please help me.
TOMTOM AND GPS
The XDA II comes only with support for BT headsets and ActiveSync through BT. The serial port emulation is also a feature of the Microsoft BT stack but you need a device driver a register port and to handle it
AND ITSOCKET BLUETOOTH TOOLS
hi all
i have had a right time trying in vain to get my t mobile MDA compact to work with the holox BT-321 GPS receiver. the reason i am having so much trouble is when i pair the devices, a small window flashes up and says "This bluetooth device supports serial port profile, would you like to create a bluetooth serial port for it?" the window box is labelled "bluetooth serial port COM5" of course i click yes, it asks me for the name, and i leave it what its called "BTGPS74R" and click finish, this leaves me on the main menu. in the com ports tab there is "new outgoing port" and "new incoming port" i click outgoing and next and low and behold there is nothing in the box whatsoever to select. i have checked all the boxes in my bluetooth settings for the 2 com ports.
the phone refuses to show any ports at all, i have flashed the imate jam rom 1.12 as i read that solved it, but it never, i have tried a bluetooth program called pocket bluetooth tools and this brings with it more com ports but they do not actually work by putting the ports in the drop down list, its still empty !!! also when i select say port 6/7/8 the small window flashes up saying "this device supports......" and then the pocket tools dissappears and its all back to nothing again.
i am at my wits end with it and i dont have a clue how to get this bluetooth port to actually show up so i can bond with my bluetooth GPS and make tom tom 5 work
thank you anyone who can help me
Dan
Hi,
i just resolved exactly the same problem on my mda compact.
I had to do a complete reset of the device...
Hi
I am having a similar problem. I have an orange SPV M1000 and the same bluetooth GPS device. It is paired in bluetooth devices. When I got to connect on Tom Tom 5 it can't pich up the receiver. I have tried all the different wired/bluetooth etc device settings in TT as it says to try wired if bluetooth doesnt work. But to no avail. I'm tempted to try different sat nav software. Any ideas? Let me know if your issue gets resolved!
cheers
AJ
Hi guys,
The options for new outgoing/incoming port creation are to connect to a device with which you haven't paired. My gps creates a com5 too, like all of yours & TT5 finds it pretty fast when I have it to use 'another bt gps' @ com5.
When you think a hard-reset will solve your problem, get yourself a good backup first. Cause sometimes you can restore that backup & the problem is still solved.
BTW does your gps support nmea protocol? TT can only handle nmea & that could be the cause when your gps is setup for external communication with another protocol.
Good luck M
Thanks for the reply
Hi there
I've attached the info from my receiver, looks like it should be ok.
Tom Tom only has connections on infrared, BT on COM6, Serial Cable on COM1, COM9:, COM2:, and Serial on USB
When I go to Start>Settings>Bluetooth settings there are options for bluetooth serial settings. These are non changable and if you check the boxes it will set Inbound Com port to COM4 and Outbound COM port to COM5.
These com ports dont seem to be options in Tom Tom 5 which confuses me.
So i download a program called BeeLineGPS which does a scan of all the ports and baud rates which I thought would be easier than the manual setup of TT5.
Try the com port options mentioned earlier with the BeeLine software and it still cant pick up the GPS device. Tried fiddling around for ages and still not working.
Do I need some kind of software for forwarding the ports so TT5 can see the device.
The advert for the device i bought promised me and easy set-up but this is being a pain

All Fixed now. I upgraded the Rom to a newer version. After this the tom tom picked up that it was actually on port 5 which it wasnt doing before. Bobs your uncle
Dear Htc fellows,
My bluetooth GPS is working strange on my Universal, but on iPaq with
WM2003 works as a charm. The BT GPS is new Solar GPS with new Mediatek
chipset.
It's not working with iGo 2006 and even not Tomtom 5 or Tomtom 6.
I can find the BT GPS in BT manager, I can pair it, but I dont know why,
it needs a pass key even if it shouldn't. Then when I explore it's
services, The popup come again asking me if I will allow external BT
device to connect to my Universal and it come asking passkey again (Why?).
I can't even enter an empty passkey (bt device doesen't require it). After that I have successfully paired the device. I can add it's serial port to enumerate on com ports 8 or 4.
When I start Tomtom, it doesent detect the device at all. If I use iGo, it detects, gets datas and disappear, it's allways appeared for 1 second and then 5 seconds not. No matter Which bitrate I set (device is written to be 9600) it needs to be in NMEA protocol, not SIRF.
When I use some freeware GPS programs, it seams to be working ok, it shows satelites and it's not disappearing.
What can I do with that???
I have some idea that it's probably about WM5 and it's security....
How can I setup com security in registry? can I set the port speads manually atd... I had performed a hard reset and it still don't work. Can ROM update or AKU update help me?
Does anyone have some idea what should I try now?

Could you find a solution??
Hi,
I have the same problem exactly and could not find anything on the net. Did you solve your problem?
well ...
i know that there is a problem with GPS and WM5 and so there is this patch which i install every time i hard reset .....
the guys i bought MY GPS from gave me this ... and they are pretty knowledgable .....
it works well ....
try it !
tried
My OS version is WM2003 but tried anyway.. Did not work.. can there be version for WM2003??
did you ?
did you define an outgoing com port for the device (com 4 for example ?)
com port definition
well, igo finds the device an COM 6 actually, it connects too.. but stays connected just for a second, then again and again..
I installed GPSGate and created a virtual com port 7. I manually configured the GPS receiver connection to COM 7 on igo.. But all the same.. :
do you advice another way?
one other thing the device works with navigon 5.0 and tomtom 6.0 smoothly, no problem.. only igo..
well...
IGO is CRAP ... that is well known .... lots of bugs ...
i am sorry .. i do not know how to solve your problem...
but i suggest using destinator 6 ..... (that's what i use) ....
simple ... nice looking .... big buttons and able to navigate to your contacts directly (especially useful if you have Phone Edition)
oh ... and ... works great !
I got the Holux GPSlim 236 GPS. I can pair the GPS with Universial. But I cannot set the com port at all. A pop up window always say the com port (I tried everyone of the ports) is not available.
Any one got a solution, does the GPS bug fix help ? and what does it fix ?
Might seem a bit obvious, but have you tried the code "0000" when pairing your device?
Once paired...did you define an outgoing serial port on "Bluetooth Settings" menu on your WinCE?
I have a royaltek bluetooth GPS and it's been working well with TomTom[5|6]...I use '0000' as passkey (default on many 'non-interactive' devices), once paired I clicked on 'COM Ports' tab and defined a new outgoing port, the wizard should list the GPS as an available device to create a COM port so I used it and I got a 'com0'.
Once the outgoing port was created I had to tell TomTom to use the new 'com0' and worked like a charm
It's been working since TomTom 5.21 (previous versions didn't work).
