****ed up VM2003. No hard reset help. HELP ME!!!! - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Hi!
I have the XDA II (Qtek2020) and it used to work fine... But for some reason now I can't enter my contacts and my calender. And if I'm so lucky to enter, it is all ****ed up and I can't read half of it. The buttons, text and so on is simply gone!
I was sure that a hard reset would do the trick, but that did not work Now I dont know what do do. My calender and contacts is what I'm using most on my PDA. And further more my icons are missing when I e.g. go to "System" or any other menu. Does anyone know what I can do? My XDAII is totally useless...
As far as I see it my only option is to try to install a new ROM.
I'm currently using ROM version 1.03.00 USA and Radio version 1.05.12A - VM2003
But I am a totally newbie in this upgrading thing... I know that I could (and I will) read a lot in this forum on updating it, but I know that it will confuse me too, cause there is a lot of opinions and a lot of threats...
I would like if someone would simply say:
* "This" is the best ROM you can install. There are no bugs and it runs perfectly! (ofcourse I want the BEST rom with the best radio too - I want all the best  )
* This is how you upgrade - simply and easy described.
I need to have installed a ROM that allow me to use TT5 and does not freeze... Also have to work with bluetooth support...
How about the radio part? Is that included in the ROM or do I have to install that seperately?
How about updating to WM2005? Would that be a good idea or are there still too many bugs? I need to sync with my desktop. I've heard that WM2005 is having trouble doing that? And how about programs working on WM2005?
The XDAII is unlocked.
Thanks in advance!!!!
And thank to you people for reading this post and replying seriously.
I appriciate it! I really need your help

in the ftp there is a 1.75 rom which i think have radio stack 1.18
personaly i'm still using the norwegien 1.72 with 1.14
never heard about a problem such as yours
unless you restore your backup i dont really see how these issues could
survive a hardreset
the radio stack is included in the rom upgrade¨
about upgrading here is a guide
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HimalayaRomkitchen

The only back up I'm restoring is my contacts and my calender from Outlook on my desktop...
ROM 1.75 ? Is that VM2003SE or WM2005? I assume that it is WM2005 when using the radio stack 1.18???
"The Norwegien 1.72 with 1.14"? Is that WM2005? Working fine? No probs?
How do I access the FTP? Excuse this newbie...

no 1.75 is not 2005 it's 2003 (not SE)
ftp
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_FTP_Site
2005 dont come with a radio stack of it's own so if one upgrade to it one get what ever radiostack one already had
1.72 is also 2003 (not SE)
my reasons for not getting later editions is
the 2003SE in english are manualy translated from chinese so it's not official and some people report issues with the transscriber and dictionary i believe
the 2005 i suspect dont use the ATI chip which mean that it's GUI is slower then earlier roms some guy did some benchs which showed that it was much slower with 2005 then with 2003 when it came to graphics
imho then 2005 is reported a bit slugish speedwise
and it dont really offer something which i need so i havent taken the ride myself
my 1.72 is working just fine

If I upgrade to WM2003SE or WM2005, can I then easily downgrade if I'm not satisfied?

ROM update.... get me outta here!!

hi xda worldwide people,
i have updated my o2 xda with a Rom version 4.00.01 ENG and Radio Version 4.21.00, everything seemed to be working fine (finally i can even see the number of word i write in a sms...yahooo!!), BUT after a while of perfect functionning (to good to stay good...) I noticed that now i cannot acced anymore to the phone of the device. I cannot make any call!!
tried with a soft and full reset but dosent get any better..
:?:
help
I would try an upgrade to 4.00.11, and it that doesn't help you it's probably not the ROM but something wrong with the phone. You didn't mess with your Radio Stack did you?
...ops! tricky one!i hope not.is there any way that i can find out if there is anything wrong with my radio stack? by the way is there also an ftp or web address where i can download the upgrade you say?
This info forum is great!!

Problems after update to PPC2003. Ghost in machine?

Hiya all,
Firstly thanks to all you guys who have spent so much time and energy on developing these great tools and apps.
I have a problem.! Updated my XDA to PPC2003 from Yorch's kitchen; fine for 2 or 3 days and then it started doing soft resets and things of its own accord.
Anyone else had the same problem; and more importantly, anyone know how I can get round the problem. I'm now back on the old rom but liked the tools that 2003 had with it. Especially the phone bits, individual ring tones etc.
Somebody please help me. I have had a good look round the forums for info but everyone seems to be either obsessed with the XDA2 (aint we all.!) or the Tmobile rom update.
Thanks in advance for your help
Cheers :?
PPC2003 Config
Radio stack version 4.21.00
Rom Version 4.00.05
Original Config (which I am back to now)
Radio stack version 4.21.00
Rom Version 3.17.03 Eng
What version and radio
Which version of ppc2003 did you cook?
I have had great experience w/4.0.16 and radio 6.24.00 TMO
The first time I loaded I had some problems but I had forgotten to do a hard reset. The really small hole on the lower right by the head phone socket. I reloaded the new rom did a soft reset then a hard and Bob's your uncle it worked great.
Hope this helps. I doubt anyone can help significantly until you specify rom and radio version
As you can see, I have a real old version of Rom and Radio Stack!
Where can I get the new PPC2003 in combination with a new RadioStack?
Where did you get it from?
THX
www.yorch.net
That should get you what you need

WM2003 problems

I have a WM2003 (ROM version A.30.09 ENG) on my SX56, that I had upgraded after putting in the SER to unlock the phone. Now WM2003 is much too buggy for me!
- the phone rings just once on an incoming call
- the system hangs every now and then
- apps take too damn long to start up
- ring volume is not very high
and on & on & on.......
I'd like to upgrade something more stable - either WM2002 or 2003 (if there's a stable version out there). Did go to LumpiStefan's kitchen but there are several options within the 2003 ROM's itself.
Can someone pls recommend to me which ROM would be best for me. And can I put in a T-Mobile ROM into the SX56?
TIA
Omi
A30.09 is known to have some issues with the sound.
TMO 4.01.00 is a very good and stable ROM, and yes you can use it with SX-56 device as long as you don't touch the RSU.
Thanks Biso007.
OK, so if I go to LumpiStefan's kitchen and cook a ROM there and put it into the phone, I would only be changing the PDA OS (and not doing anything to the RSU), correct? Just want to be sure before I go and experiment
Omi
How about the 4.01.16 ENG ? The kitchen says that it is the official TMO release? Can I go for that, since it guess it is the most recent release ?
Omi
4.01.16 ENG is working perfectly!
I would strongly recommend this ROM.. its WM 2003 version.
AND, I recommend the SD Card method.. flawless installation!
Question regarding newer ROM for the SX56
I have the older ROM and have not experienced any problems with anything that was mentioned. Am I just extremely lucky or is thing something I should expect to arrive shortly, considering I downloaded my newer ROM recently from the Siemens Site. I use everything on my phone and have no problems at all, only sh_ _ _ _ signal strength, damn AT&T! I would switch but still own then a year on my contract, so I won't go on and on about that.
Please let me know the pros to this newer ROM, at least in terms of stability and performance, if that is possible from someone that has loaded it.
Oh - one more Question...
Would I have to reload all my installed applications after flashing my ROM, or can I simply back them up and then restore them from backup without having to enter all the keys, and licenses that you would normally have to put in on the installation?
Thanks!

Some people encountered problems with 4.01.16, so I didn't want to risk especially that when I checked the system files and DLLs of this ROM I found that they are dated the same as the 4.01.00 ones!!

I 'm refering to A30.09 and its known sound bug (clipping) ... which ROM you mean ??
Wokay, 4.01.00 it is then
Thanks everyone, especially Biso007, appreciate your help.
Omi
Thaks everyone for your help, successfully upgraded to 4.01.00, though i lost all my contacts :-(
I had backed them up on a SD card and when I tried to restore that after upgrading, nada!
any ideas how i can get them back (i didn't sync with oputlook before the upgrade).
Omi
SD backup can be restored only to the same ROM version
It's a silly task if you really want your contacts back (long list I mean) .. flash your ROM to the old version, restore the SD backup, sync with outlook, flash the new ROM version, sync with outlook again ...
Don't you think that keying your contacts is easier ??

Windows Mobile SE - Any news or confirmed screenshots...

About a week ago we were all getting excited about the XDA II & SE and all the new product anouncements........ and..... its all gone very quiet....
Does anyone have any updates, a confirmed release date, or screenshots to confirm its going to happen ?
The latest news has O2 not releasing the SE update for XDA II devices. (File under "ways to lose repeat business and word of mouth.")

Yes, but they *are* releasing SE for the XDA IIs and IIi. I doubt it'll be too hard to port the ROM accross, as they're basically the same hardware with a little added WiFi and keyboard.
WM2003SE
No any news!!!!
if manufacturer release rom for WM2003SE, it will kill the market of XDA2s & XDA2i models which will roms on WM2003SE.
let's hope WM2003SE for our device!!!.
and now !! FORGET IT about SE !!!!
thanks

Can we cook a ROM for the MDA 2 based on SE?
Hi folks:
I don't need the little keyboard and I don't need Wi-Fi. But I do need the landscape rotation on the fly (Nyditot does not quite do it). Of course, the solution is a ROM cooked with SE as its base.
Can this be done?
Thanks,
Fernando
there is no such thing as people being able to cook with a basic windows ce version
all roms ever installed on our devices have been modified versions of roms released from htc
pocketpc is not like windows where you can install it on different pc's with different hardware
all drivers are hardcoded and all devices must be present and the same
thats the reason you cant install a xda2 rom on a xda1 or a ipaq rom on any of them
and people cant install xda3 on the rest of them
so unless they as in htc (o2 tmobile ...) release 2003SE to xda2 and xda1 then i dont see it happening
I have an XDAII ROM running perfectly on my XDAI
And have every intention of trying to upgrade it to SE when somone takes the ROM off the XDAIII and it shows up in a ROM kitchen.
Yes it may invalidate my warranty and some inbuilt utils are useless(WLAN / photo / bluetooth) on the XDA I - but overall it will be an upgrade to have landscape capability and other inclusions.
Just because it's not an official upgrade does not mean that the smart folks here won't find a way to make it work ( but at your own risk)!!
which version is that ?
1.60? 1.66? 1.72 ?
i've never heard anybody doing that before
are you sure you just dont have a 2003 xda1 rom on your device ?
Good point -
I should have been clearer.
It is ROM version 4.00.05 which I had cooked from a kitchen.
I have recently cooked another ROM with base version 4.01.12!
Will this not work on the XDA1 then?
Please advise as I have not yet installed it.
Do you feel that the WM2003 SE will not be able to be ported to an XDA2 as an upgrade unofficially??
Jayman
yes it will as will all roms made in kitchens
there are no kitchens for xda2 roms because they use the extented rom to store special programs and cant have them cooked the way
xda1 roms can so you can install that rom just like the one you already have
Thanks for clearing that up.
So do you think this community will be able to find a work around to port WM2003SE to the XDA2?
As it will effect my hardware upgrade path decision.
Thanks
Jayman

Unlock CID of Prophet SPL 2.xx

The programmers of www.pdamobiz.com in Thailand have successfully unlocked the CID for HTC Prophet SPL 2.xx. More information is available at:
http://en.pdamobiz.com/en/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=437&PN=1&TPN=1
Wow, that's a very good news indeed
Now I just have to find an Orange France M600 rom to test if it work
I'll test with the Jamin one also...
If someone can upload the M600 french rom, i would be very grateful, thanks!!
Does anyone succefully download the unlock program? the connexion is very very slow on their server (I'm downloading in Bytes/sec  instead MBytes)...
If yes, it would be nice to upload it on the ftp server, thanks!!

Thanks to someone that uploaded the file. It's here:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Prophet/pdamobiz.com_downgrade_and_unlockcid.rar
Actually it was there ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Prophet/pdamobiz.com_downgrade_and_unlockcid.rar
Not sure what happenned to the Prophet folder on the ftp, I though there were more files inside yesterday
Thanks a lot anyway
Im probably missing something here, but isnt it enough just using Machinagod great No ID crack when upgrading a ROM?
Just copy it to the nbf files and run it, works like a charm.
So, what is the difference with this application?
I don't know the app you're talking about, but we're talking here about downgrading, not upgrading a rom...
Moreover, does your application remove CID on prophet with SPL 2.xx ?
well, should have tested that before speaking...
doesn't work for me, once run the downgrading program, I soft reset but the device stay blocked on splah and I can't connect back to active sync to run the unlock program... too bad, that seemed to be a good way to downgrade rom :?
...great work! just used it on my qtek s200 that i've accidently flashed with the latest o2 germany rom without cid-unlocking before. now i can really put any rom on it
thanks and cheers, lutz
did i work? what happen when you soft reset after running the downgrade tool?
thx !
everything worked as it should, no idea why it didn't work for you...
cheers, lutz
Ok thanks,
BTW, ignore my PM didn't though you'd reply so fast
do a hardreset and pray that you get it connected to active sync, buddy...
as said above, it worked exactly as they've said it will. i have no idea what went wrong for you so my help is poor...
cheers, lutz
Actually I tried various time... I'm on the last Dopod rom, i started as said, then when I reboot, the device is stuck on dopod splash screen...
So I have to go into the boot loader in order to reflash the dopod rom I have... at least I can do that and keep my S200 working
Maybe this doesn't work with the last Dopod rom, but at least it worked for others
we need a Thai to Eng. translation to understand the problem
Unfortunately my device can not continue with second step. After I softreset it; the device freezes. Neither hardresetting, nor putting in bootloader and continuing with hard or soft reset helps. I reflashed the latest Dopod ROM and continued to use it.
I can not read Thai language but from the original discussion (not english but in Thai language) I see that a number of people are having the same problem. I also understand that the suggested solution works for some others.
The english version is not a full translation of the original discussion; translation of a lot of answers are missing.
We need the help of our Thai friends to understand what is going on.
I guess that it works on certain rom version, if you've the dopod one like I had, then it confirm that this method is useless with the last dopod rom...
But we have confirmation it work with other roms... maybe it's not really working on SPL 2... roms :?
I took a look on the Thai version, now it's clear that it doesn't work on the last dopod rom SPL 2.15 !!!!!!!
cedrick - Sorry you have failed to CID-unlock your Prophet and congratulations to lutzh that has succeeded.
From the Thai version of this utility, many people could unlock their devices but some did fail to do that. Not sure only the SPL 2.15 or not that couldn't be unlocked but at least 2 people claimed that their devices are SPL 2.15.
The website programmers are still trying to investigate and find the solution to help people who failed. Please hang on. Good luck!
@cedrick:
Yeah my SPL is 2.15
@Khuanchai:
Thank you for information. Hope to hear better news.
Cheers.
No problems about the failure, that's already nice to see tools like that that can help a bunch of people.
Now I hope it will also work on the dopod rom as I really liked it and I would like to update my prophet with this rom. But I prefer to wait until there's a way to get back to whatever rom
