Which Network Best (PAYG) for internet Need 4 TomTom Traffic - Networking

Hi Everyone,
I have just bought a SPV M2000 which is unlocked
My primary use for this is going to be running TomTom 5.1 Sat Nav.
I would like to be able to use the traffic updates feature, can anybody suggest the cheapest PAYG sim card to use for this?
I had intended to use O2 but after reading some of the posts here i'm now not so sure!!
Chris.

Traffic needs a mobile web service, it won't work with WAP.
And data on PAYG will need very deep pockets, it won't be cheap.

Does the XDA2 work on the Orange (UK) network?

Guys - I'm trying to get hold of an XDA2 and put it on the Orange network in the UK. The main reason for this is that you can have 2 numbers connecting to the same phone on the orange network (a.k.a. business and personal). But I also like the idea of HSCSD - i.e. 28.8K data speed - faster than any of the others.
If anyone has done this and has any comments they would like to share that I will be a happy man.
regards,
i may be way off here but i dont see what the problem should be
a gsm phone should work with any gsm operator
i bougth my xda unlocked and without a phone company licence
i put in my sim and typed in the pin
i put in the grps settings myself
and it were all set
so as far as i see any unlocked xda should work
Hi,
I'm currently using an unlocked MDA2 on orange. No problems so far, phone works, gprs works. You mention HSCSD. This is not possible with the MDA2 - it is GPRS only. Or are you talking of carrying two devices, one for GPRS and one for HSCSD ? ;-)
Cheers,
Oliver
(Oliver - ) if you are using it GPRS with Orange then you would no doubt be able to have the 2 number service they offer.
As for HSCSD, this is a faster version of GPRS - see http://support.fujitsu-siemens.de/KnowHow/GB/Grundlagen/Funknetz/GPRS/GPRS-im_Vergleich.htm
The important figure is the realistic data rate in practical usage, and HSCSD appears to be 2-3 times faster. This means your bill will go up 2-3 times faster. But that's not the point is it?
Anyways, cheers d.

cant get on the internet: Telfort simcard, Tmobile MDA2,help

I live in Holland. I have an Tmobile MDA2. It is simlock free. I have a contract with Telfort mobile phone company. (Telfort used to be O2 until O2 stopped operating in Holland). And I have my Telfort sim card in the MDA2.
But I can't get on the internet. And I cannot get settings from Telfort, (they say they don't support MDA's or Xda's anymore, and I can't get settings from Tmobile, unless I have a contract with them.
I'm stuck. I upgraded the MDA succesfully, to PPC 2003 SE with the "merged" upgrade from this site. Brilliant.
But I don't know how to get on the internet, or Email, etc.
Is there a way I can get on the internet?. Any settings or ideas please?
Don't know if this is too obvious, if you want to connect to the internet mobily (so not through ActiveSync) and not with a SD-WiFi card, you're probably referring to GPRS, wich uses your GSM antenna.
To be able to connect to a GPRS network, you need to have a GPRS account.
So, do you have a GPRS account with your Telfort account?
I'm also in the netherlands with a T-Mobile MDAII but use it with my T-Mobile acount that supports GPRS. It works fine (but is waaaay to expensive..)
Internet using MDAII
Just make a connection using Cellulair Line using the same ISP you use for your home-pc..
The speed is fair enough and will cost you the same as if you were just calling someone.
cellulair how?
thanks for your answer - I looked for Cellulair on google and nothing came up. Do you have more details or links so I can find it, please?
cellulair - its alright I've found the web site
cellulair - its alright I've found the web site - duh - it was obvious - www.cellulair.com. sorry to have bothered you - thanks again
Okay, 64,000 dollar question!
I have programmed my XDA to get on the internet using O2 GPRS for FREE (I have no contract and no credit) stay on the net 24/7!
Anyone know how to do this on a T-Mobile SIM?
Cheers
This forum rocks, such a great bunch of willing helpers
PS.
If you goto this link http://datasafe.port5.com at most you'll lose $4 but you might make a fortune! It's just a bit of fun guys

8125 wifi

Hi,
I just purchased the htc 8125 from cingular at full retail WITHOUT a plan
for use on my trips to Hong Kong using my sim card from a Hong Kong
provider.
While in the USA I would like to use the 8125 to access the internet without
a sim card installed and without cingular service. Wifi does recognize available
networks but I cant open any web pages.
Can you please tell me how to configure the phone to do this. I believe it is
by default programmed to use cingular's access services but I want to configure it to work as a stand alone device similar to a laptop looking for wifi signals to connect to the web.
Please help! Thank you.

Hey David. Sorry man, but you're in the wrong forums. This is for the Hermes (8525 in the US). Head over to the Wizard (8125) forums. They'll get you going.

Best Network for PAYG Surfing (noob with m3100 hermes)

Hi all , just got a spv m3100 and am gonna upgrade to WM6 and unlock the SIM/CID , now then.....
In the UK which is the cheapest/best data provider on PAYG , anyone offer free browsing on evenings/weekends? Do all use HSPDA?
How do i go about setting up 3g or even where to buy a 3g sim?
Also WIFI is free if i connect to my own wireless router isnt it?
Sorry for being so completely thick , and i have googled around for data tariffs btw but cant really work out half the hidden charges etc
i dunno about cheapest/best data provider, but for sure noone offers free evenings.
3g service is a capability built into your phone, and a "3g" sim card is just a normal sim card. there really is no such thing.
Wifi IS most definitely free if you connect to your own router.
Thanks for the responce , I know Orange do free evenings....
"Get up to 1000 free texts to anyone every month
and free evening mobile Internet browsing"
http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop/sim/payg_sim
Apparently the most you can spend is 1 pound a day (on most providers) , is this for 3G as well as / or only for GPRS. And are there any hidden charges?
How have you guys found browsing on your PPC's/PDA's etc?
Also which provider should i choose , who provides the best service in your opinion?
cheers
roy
as i understand it, 100p = 1 pound, right?
It shows that each area/region code has different going rate.
It seems like a reasonable deal, and orange i believe has 2g services (EDGE)
I think it says that the REGISTRATION fee is 1 pound, and the most you will end up spending for data is 2 pounds a day. This works like any prepaid card, you add money, you call people, money gets taken off the card.
It seems like a good deal, but orange has a history of sneaky language.
For example, their "Unlimited Data" actually mean "At 3 gb, we start watching you"

I think the 3 network is the best , 5 pound per month for 2 g data . it is very good at the moment , I use it for some months and the speed is ok so if you want to use the net on the go you should try to give it a go
buy a 3 simcard
install cap file on your spv m3100 which is all setting for internet
click start/setting/connection
click connection/manage existing connection
click Proxy setting/advanced
stick this network uses aproxy server to connect to the internet
click wap under server enter 192.168.71.35 under port 9201
click ok 5 times
topup 10 pound PAYG and then use your spv 3100 go to http://mobile.three.co.uk/pc/Live/pcreator/live/mwsun
go to my 3
from there you to buy internet add-on 5 pound p/m
you should only go to internet after bouth add-on because if you didnt they will charge very expensitive

Exec Internet Browsing

Hello,
Can anyone tell me if on the exec when browsing sites you can hear the music on myspace profiles?
also what is the best way to get cheap internet as i will only be buying the exec for mobile internet so need something as cheap as poss! the phone is a bonus
thanks
anyone? please
I haven't tried this (yet) so can't comment on quality. 3 pay as you go has the option to buy a months unlimited internet for £5. I don't know if that means data or is specific to port 80 access only.
Ian
I think its possible and I know internet radio is possible with the tmcp player. even youtube.
Hey,
The Exec does not take 3 'contract' phone sim cards does it? So that kicks that £5 per month internet thing?
oh yes it does. ive unlocked mine and have a "3" sim inside it, i get unlimited internet for £5/mo on payg
to answer the other question, some ports are blocked but personally i have a vpn running across "3" mobile network to get access to all services, even voip
it also works as a modem, which your not supposed to be able to do, but it works
Very interesting Phycho.
At the risk of asking the "bleedin' obvious" is that with WM6?
I would be interested in a run-down on the settings for "3" as I am just in the process of purchase from them.
yes. just use the network config wizard set to 3, it just works.
