I encountered a unique problem:
When I wanted to format my JAM's ExtROM (I used ExtROM hack 1.12.00), it did not let me.
How can I override this problem?
ROM version 1.12.00
Radio version: 1.13.00
ExtROM version: [None]
If you look at my site, there's a magician bigstorage mod tutorial in the tutorials section.

Formatting ROM storage
I know how to use ExtROM, i did it already.
The problem is, when I want to format the ROM storage (there are leftovers from earlier usage) my JAM won't let me.
All I recieve is "Can't format selected storage card. Check if your card is unlocked".
I WANT to format the ROM storage. Can it be done?
Thanks..
The Ext_Rom is read only. You can only modify the System-Rom (often called Bigstorage here) in that way that you erase the contents of the Ext_Rom and increase the size of your internal storage (27 MB). Use the search for more information.
Re-define my question
I shall try to re-define my question:
How can I format the internal storage?
I think - there is no way. This is exact answer on your question.
Resco Explorer has an option to format the storage, but i dont want to try whether it works

Well, Pocket Mechanic can format internal storage disks, but it seems to have a problem seeing my Imate JAM. I think it is because of the name "Storage", which is close to "Storage Card". But there could be some other reason. The last phone I had (HP 6315) the Pocket Mechanic could format the File Store.

Rest assure - you cannot format i-Mate JAM storage using Resco Explorer. I tried - no success.
Still - is there any software which can format internal storage of trhe JAM?

Pocket mechanic has the capability to change the name of the Storage card, in which case it might see the internal "Storage" drive. But I haven't wanted to modify my system this way, since I would have to re-install all my files.
Formatting internal storage
Changing names does not guaranty formatting capabilities.
I can tell you that under other name the internal storage will not be formatted. I tried, using Pocket mechanic..
I faced the same problem the other day, I was unable to access my internal storage ... I couldnt even launch some applications.. the ppc would just hang.
I solved the issue by running this file 'psmformat' IT wiped out my internal storage and I couldnt access it, restarted my ppc and it took a long time to boot (indicating a low level format on a newly partitioned space).
When it booted up my internal storage was all good again.

I think we must add a note in the wiki...
Some users, like me, have tried to flash via SD card without success.
This guide is correct, but some SD cards are not too fast, so when you start in flash mode, pda doesn't read SD and goes to next step (vertical colored bars).
To solve this problem I've used WM5torage, just deselect all voices (Read-Only, Removable Class and Lock card), then I've connected my pda to PC.
Windows XP reads this drive like a fisical drive (not removable) so it is possible create, resize or delete partitions.
In disk manager I've deleted principal partition then I've created a new one with size=256MB
With this size my slow SD needs less power and it's so fast to start in flash mode!!!
Great notice man.
This method worked! Thanks!Спосибо,Merci,Grazie,Gracias....

1) install WM5torage in your pda
2) start the program
3) deselect all voices in the panel (expecially Removable Class)
4) connect your pda with PC via USB
In this way windows read the SecureDigital as a fisical disk, so you can create, resize and delete partitions
5) in your PC right-click on Computer, then select Manage
6) Select Disk Manager and then delete existent partition
7) create a new partition with max size 256MB
8) format this partition in FAT32
Now your SD is ready to be used for flash!!!

Sorry, this solution is tested on slow 1GB MicroSD, resizing partition it becomes enought fast to start flash.
64MB is too little and too old Micro SD.

Increase 'Program Memory' for GPS use
Normaly when I try to use the GPS, I got the mensage 'No enough memory to open the Map'. In this case, the only way to start the GPS is to do a 'soft reset', and the normaly the GPS works.
What I can do to increase the 'program memory' and avoid this problem?

The program memory is the ram, it depends on how many programs are launched.
To free this memory you can use software like "Hibernate".
An other possibility is decrease PoolPage size to leave more Program memory...

First of all deselect all voices (Read-Only, Removable Class and Lock card) in WM5torage and connect to pc.
In this way Windows (PC) use your SD like a real disk leaving you manage it!

The situation it this: to resize a partition in a removable disk (in this case a microSD) you need a program that connect the card to windows PC like a phisical drive (with Windows Mobile you must use WM5torage). Other readers are not able to use removable drive like phisical!
Your problem is more complex, you have damaged boot sector and you have no way to start in flash mode! If you have a microSD good for flash with Artemis, you coldn't flash anyway!!! Your phone is dead!
Only way to rewrite flash without bootloader is JTAG!

Oh, i forgetted to mention that i'm using Kingston's 2GB MicroSD.
How should I manage the memory of the phone in terms of program installation? I mean if I should install system tools and the like in the main memory rather than the internal storage? Contrary, I assume that I should install a dictionary in the internal storage rather than the main memory. Is such an approach right?!
Thanks in advance for your help.

Try to dump everything that is possible on the Storage Mem.
When ever you install software choose Internal Storage as Instalation Drive.
Try keeping the Device memory as free as you can.

Thanks for the hint. That is actually what I have been trying to do. However, I can remember that I saw on the net some kind of warning that certain tools installed not on the main memory may cause problems, like for example backup software. That said, do you think that I should not worry about it and install eg Sprite Backup on the Internal Storage too?
Kindest regards,

Dear All, please help me here...
today I try to copy a number of files into the MD of Athena... yet it hanged in the middle of the process....
Now... even I have tried formatted the harddrive... The file explorer still can't show the Microdrive..
What can I do now? Thanks...
try removing the battery and see how it goes. if the problem persists, sorry mate but you may have to do a hard reset.
hope that helps
Thanks.. but that doesn't work as well
In settings choose >microdrive>format my microdrive, if I remenber clearly when the drive is not found there should be an option >find microdrive or something, choosing that option softreset the device and find the drive for you.
If that doesnt work perhaps WM5torage may find it for you and then you could format it from your computer (remenber to choose the right drive, you dont want to format the SD card.
other than that you could try pocket mechanic or similar programs.

I would try the wm5stoage option first as doing the first will wipe all info on the drive.
cheers lakeman
also do a search for format options as there is an old thread that discusses this
It doesn't have that option.. when I try to format it... it says .. Microdrive can't be accessed
Sorry... mind directing me to that formatting MD post? I had done a search on it but hardly find related info...
Thanks truly lots

goto start/settings/system/format microdrive.
in the screen that says format microdrive , click the down arrow and tap recover microdrive
It should prompt you to recover microdrive if it can't be found and warns that the data will be erased.
do a search in the athena forum for format microdrive and look for posts from eaglesteve
Sorry that I have ploughed throught posts to hunt for solution but still problem persist..
I have tried:
- WM5storage... Not able to detect the microdrive with or without WMDC
- Cardexport 3.12... The same
- Rom upgrade and downgrade... the same..
- setting\format microdrive.... only wm6 has the option of recovering the MD... so I tried.. but still.. not useful after the reset..
Please help or I will have to hv the serviceman ready... Thanks anyway
Try pocket mechanic maybe it can see it , you can try it free for a period, other than that....., drives do fail, my previous athena had a MD solid as a rock, my current athena MD is positively crap to the point that I do not use it and I tried everything.
Good luck
Even Pocket Mech. doesn't see it... I have already given up hope and rely on the SD only
Microdrive present but can't see 8Gb
I can't see 8Gb or even 7.xGb anywhere on my Athena. Where should I see it? Can anyone help me, Thanks Derek
Start/Settings/System/Memory/Storage Card/MicroDrive
This should show you if it's recognized and usage,
if it's there.
Thanks
That's what I thought - so what's the problem if it only shows something like 80Mb in the Microdrive, please? Regards, Derek
I've had mine flash in and out of existance, try this...
Sync with your pc via ActiveSYNC, click on Explore (on the pc Activesync), then My device, then if showed the Microdrive, if so click on it and it re-populates the directory. Don't know how serious your problem is but it worked for me.
Good luck.
do you change sync settings?
if you do you should change it to option one.
Start>Settings>Connections>USB to PC
if you don,t try this change from option 1 to 2 and again from 2 to 1.
hope it works.
Same problem... but solved!
Hello,
I just resetted my Ameo (Athena 100 with WM6 by T-Mobile, Germany) using the "Wipe device" function of "Sparus EveryWAN Remote Support Personal Edition" and in result I had neither access to the 8GB Microdrive nor to my 2GB MicroSD Card.
Both storage devices weren't shown in Sparus EveraWAN ... nor in WinCE Plugin for Total Commander, nor anyplace in the device itself (e.g. Memory settings, Explorer, ...)
The SD Card could be brought back by formatting it in an SD Card reader on my Win PC. The MD couldn't be formatted by the internal tools of the Athena. Neither a "secure delete" nor a factory default reset could help it.
I wanted to export the MD with WM5torage v1.90 but it even didn't start.
Solution:
I did as explained above: Control Panel>System>Format MicroDrive->"recover MicroDrive", followed the procedure (reboot and accepting the formatting).
The device rebooted, asked again to reformat, and then both my SD card and the MD returned back.
The point of data loss was no concern to me, because I just backed up all data and my intention WAS to RESET all storage.
Hope, nobody else needs this procedure, too.
Good luck! forcemaker

Hi,
I bought unbranded sim-free HD2 with 1.48 ROM. Since i bought the phone, I never installed any software on internal storage. I always select SD Card.
Yesterday I tried to download a 65MB file on my SD card through Opera and I got error insufficient storage.
My HD2 shows Total Storage = 181.47 MB, Used = 105.63 MN and Free 75.84 MB.
Could you please share how much free storage you have and how can i increase the free storage in my phone.
Thanks
Guys,
Please guide me to increase my internal memory
To be honest, that sounds pretty normal. I'm suprised you'd be trying to download a file of that size to your phone.
Can you not just download it on your PC and then (if it needs to be on your phone) copy it across using a USB cable?
Edit:
There are methods of freeing up some space - search for moving cache files and you'll probably find something.
Usually I'm not as patient as members like Skip or Antonio to name a few, but you could take a look at this or this or this or this or this or this or this or this or this post.

Thanks for OPera cache tip. I'll try that
Hi pda_crazy
The 181.47 is your onboard flash storage, you need to see SD Card under settings>SD Card & Phone Settings down the bottom
Your phone is not detecting your card because it is probably corrupt, I tried to reformat my 2GB SD that came with my phone because mine was not detecting the SD card and windows said it was corrupt. Purchased a new 8GB MicroSD and was able to format disk and since then the phone recognises it and had no problems.
Hope that helps
Try the attached cleantemp program,
in the menu/main settings change the custom folders to:
1. windows/opera/profiles/cache
2. application data/htc/album/cache
3. windows/youtube ( you may not see this directory if you dont use youtube)
Clean the phone
This should help
like 4tune said: there are some threads, which explains, how to save main storage, also sticky posts. just use search function of Board in Leo-Area.
e.g. "save or free" "main storage"
or
"move google maps to storage card" (would save 20-40 mb)
or
"treesize mobile" (free app which shows you where/how much you have stored - perhaps you know it from your PC)
And everywhere also the same remark all above: install as much as possible and senseful for you by default to storage card.
I'm a T-Mobile Rep and stumbled upon this thread when trying to help a customer set his default storage to the SD Card. While I was reading this thread the customer actually solved his own problem.
Go to MarketPlace, Select Menu, go into settings. You will then see where you can set the default storage to Memory Card. I'm an android guy but I'm learning more and more about Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, and even Nokia/Ovi/Symbian.
Cheers!
It seems that Opera 9 saves downloads to a folder on the phones 'device memory', but it doesn't always delete them when you tell opera to do so in the downloads menu tab.
It saves them too: \My Device\Windows\opera9\profile\download
When I deleated most of the files there, it released over 110 MB of space in the device storage .
I wonder where other programs save similar files?
Sam.
