Is it possible to back this ROM up? I want to try reinstalling WM5 to fix my HW button issue and want to backup first. I might also need to restore to this backup in the future too.
I have read the post weird way to backup Data under Magneto but there seems to be no option for 1.60b.

hey guys anyone know why you cant backup or restore on wm5.0 or is there a similar function for it.
Hi
WM5 has integrated "persistent storage" feature.
That means that system is placing all your data in ROM (if possible).
It's recommended to install any programs on SD card to maximise amount of free ROM.
No idea. It is still absolutely neccessary IMO as we still have to do the odd hard reset from time to time, persistant storage or not.
And the registry is not in Persistent Mem either

there is a program that works in wm5 to backup/restore data called 'sunnysoft backup manager'
do u use version 3.3?
or a different one?

Well, the backup works (same also with Sprite Backup).
But has anybody tried a restore with Sunnysoft Backup Manager ?
With Sprite, the restore ain't working (admitted by SpriteSoftware)

I've installed a ton of stuff in my 1.18 version phone. I just got some BT 620 stereo bluetooth headsets and the music only plays for a few seconds. I want to try the 1.35 ROM's. Can I successfully backup my entire Hermes, do the upgrade, and then restore?
If so, what backup software should I use? SPB Backup says "use at your own risk" for ROM upgrades and Sprite Backup outlines a method.
I definitely understand that if you backup registry stuff, and the underlying settings in the ROM cause the registry settings to change, you are just asking for trouble. Kind of like taking a bunch of windows 95 registry settings and jamming into Vista.
TIA

You can if you revert back to the original ROM Version, you already answered the ? about the registry and I can tell you already some has changed from 1.18 to 1.35 I just did this upgrade this week.
Just to be clear, I am understanding from what you said that there were registry changes from 1.18 to 1.35 and so don't do a backup/upgrade to 1.35/restore.
Thanks! I guess I'll plan on a day of re-installing everything.

That is correct sorry I was not clear.
It seems Sprite Backup can do the job. There is an unique feature from Sprite Backup called the Upgrade Mode Restore which supports to restore a backup file made before ROM upgrade or changing to a new device.
For more information you may need to visit their FAQ at

Yes but it is still not a sure thing. You may incur additional lockups and freezes. It is much better to re-install your apps manually.

If you read the FAQ first and do it all correctly it will work. Most ppl go ahead and upgrade their ROM then they find they get problems simply restoring the backup image. You have to run the upgrade util on the old, hard reset ROM to get the correct .sbu file, this is the most common mistake ppl make, I have restored after ROM upgrade many times and not had any issues, you just need to do it correctly...step by step I suggest read the FAQ first, it is less time consuming than reinstalling all your apps and reconfiguring your device The only thing you cannot restore are POP accounts, they have to be deleted before the initial backup, then recreated, on the new ROM
Dear wizard owners,
recently I had to fully reinstall my wizard since I was having trouble with the windows mobile 6 'no alarm notification' bug and couldn't solve it despite of the many solution that also can be found on this forum. Nevertheless, it was quite a job to costumize my Wizard to the state as it used to be. Therefore this question, is it possible to make some kind of image of the state of my MDA including all programs and settings and such? Thanks in advance.
Bart
I use SPB Backup which works really well and does restore my Wizard back to its state with all my programs installed.
Its quite easy to use to; just open an exe file and let the program do the rest to restore.
keep in mind, however, that you cannot use this program (nor any other one that I have heard of), to restore after a ROM upgrade. This program will only work if you are restoring on the same ROM you backed up on.
Thanks Zakhir for your quick reply. I will certainly try it.

Is there a way to backup the Calendar entries???
There's an SMS backup, but is there a Calendar backup???
Hi there
I am planning to to flash the hard SPL followed by Duttys ROM for the firt time so can someone explain the easiest and foolproof way to backup everythingfiles, photos, videos). I have tried to download Pim backup 2.8 but when i try to install from Total comander nothing happens.
Any help appreciated
PIMBackup should be a cab and all you need to do is double click is from your device (I think but its been a long time since I installed it as it remains on my SD).
Not sure there is a best answer.
Myself I use Pimback up of SMS and call logs.
Outlook for contacts and calendar.
Pics are sent to SD card so I always have them.
E-mail I use on my PC and not on my devices so I don't have that problem.
There are a few backup applications (SPB, Sprite) that allow you to restore after a rom flash. My theory is a new rom will have new seetings, reg keys and files, so I don't like the idea of restoring stuff I don't understamd.
Thus I go for the data only and flash clean.
It helps that I use Sashimi to reinstall my apps thus its prity much automamted.
Hope that helps

I put newest montecristo coocked rom into my ipaq and there is no sound on it, after restoring my settings with spb backup. I think that there is registry issue and now I want to change registry to enable sound but I don't know what I have to do.

Restoring old backup after a rom upgrade isn't very smart...
It wasnt upgrade. It was the same version of ROM, but I screw with registry modification and then after I stood with no sound, I need to flash it again.
But actually now is problem solved, after 2 hours trying and reinstalling some titanium plug ins etc...
I made new SPB backup for any case....
Problem can be solved with flashing new ROM, backup registry from new ROM, restoring old SPB file, restoring registry from brand new flashed ROM and a lot work with reinstalling and modifying settings etc...
But you can save time, cause most programs dont need to be installed again. Only titanium launcher with skins need new settings and re installation.
