Hi,
My XDA mini does wake up (the light comes on) when there is an incoming call but it does not ring or vibrate or even notify that there's a new call. As soon as the caller has hung up, I do get a missed call notification.
The problem is generally resolved when I soft reset. After sometime the problem re-appears. Any idea why this is happening? I have checked the usual culprits like the volume level etc.
I have installed Wisbar Advance, Cell Profiler and PPCProfile Pro. I have tried uninstalling all of them still no luck.
I would greatly appreciate any help.
Backup your data and do an hard reset
Blame WisBar....doesnt work on phone edition and eliminates the ring volume.

it can also happen if the default player for music files/ringtones isn't wmp. for example if you have pocket music, uncheck the make default player
Yeah, Wisbar causes a lot of problems for Phone Edition version.
But here's the latest BETA version of Wisbar that works for PE versions:

Hi,
Thanks for all your replies. I too have zeroed down on Wisbar Advanced. Now that wisbar is disabled the phone does ring consistently.
I now have a new problem. That is with the Cell Profiler. The profiles does infact switch beautifully. The problem is the phone sometimes does not ring and only beeps on incoming calls.
For now without Cell profiler and Wisbar the phone works normally.
Hi all,
I'm having the exact same problem since I installed Wisbar (used to work fine on my Jornada) I'll try the latest beta to see if it works better.
Don't seek for the Beta anymore.
The final release (ver 2.4.0.1) is available on the website.

I think you will find that the alarm will not activate if you manually put the device in standby. The best way is to allow the XDA II to automatically set itself to standby. This is what I was doing.
This theory is being tested in a thread over at www.mtekk.com.au
Dave
wakes me every morning.
i havent applied any patches, have found that if you set your alarm and check the following boxes:
play sound,
repeat sound
display message
then it will work every time. It wakes me every morning!
I have found that missing some of these checks, or adding others, sometimes causes probs.
however, often the pda itself is 'locked' needing a softboot before i go to bed at night. This is annoying, since the xdaII is having more lockups than the xda1. Best to soft reboot before settling down for the night
Alarms work for me
I did several test yesterday after running the two fixes listed in the top post. I did set the alarm 5 minutes ahead and manually turned the PPC off.
The alarms worked everytime (once I enabled sounds for alarms, it was turned off) Make sure you are not using a 'silent' profile while you test.

Michael
Alarm problems
I was also having problems with my alarms, read somewhere that unwanted entries in start up could affect this & slow your machine down too, Hope that helps....
Download this freeware (both of them), install them and run them.
http://www.scarybearsoftware.com/ppc_cn_overview.html
I installed this freeware which seems to have (a) cleared a lot of unwanted dross & (b) sorted out my alarm problem (I think!)
I also use the very useful pocket alarm from Burr Oak Software, check it out with a free trial here:-
http://www.burroak.on.ca/pta2.html (costs about $12 for registered version)
Top banana! Thanks again!
How do I get this to work - when xda2 is off , and when xda2 is on?
I also have some problems.
Sometimes the alarm works, sometimes not.
What can I do?
Thanks,
Urosh
I had same problem
I say had, as it was caused by an mp3 player I had installed on it, once de-installed, and soft reset, it all worked pefect.
So my advise is, check for some programms installed that could interfere with the alarm settings
(As I am a complete newbie to this I hope that I didn't misunderstand this topic)
As far as I found out there is a bug in Pocket PC 2003 that sometimes switches off the alarm. Find more information and a link for a bugfix here:
http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=876
Hope that will be useful...
The mentioned bugfix...
Okay, I never experienced problems with the alarm clock. Nevertheless I installed the bugfix because I hate not beeing woken up in the morning.
Although the bugfix is installed, the alam clock did not work this morning. So I advise you to use a second alarm clock to avoid surprises in the morning...
I am still having a problem, does any one else have any ideas?
Since I've installed the 1.60 ROM together with the bugfix, the alarm clock seems to work fine. But I still don't trust it and use a second, old school alarm clock...

Someone recommended this excellent and useful 'pocket Alarm' utility when I was still using my XDA I, Burr Oak have now upgraded it and it better than ever!
Try it free here :- http://www.burroak.on.ca/pta2.html (costs $12-ish if you like it enough to register it) 8)

maybe this would help aswell
Thanks for all the help guys, I'm not quite sure what fixed it but my XDA II is not working with the Alarm... A friend had the same problem and could not get his to work. We found out that if we used the power button to turn the device off it would not work...
As soon as I did a software power off the alarms started to work after that (May need to do it twice!).. give that a go it worked for us...
After getting it working I can now use the power off button and all working 100%...
I'm one of you guys: alarm does not work. Unfortunately I don't have much to offer.
I just wanna share a few things that I noticed:
1) I hard reset my qtek and tried the alarm, before any additional software installation.. Guess what! Nothing happened. The alarm did not work. I also used other 3rd party alarm software. It was all the same: the force-wake up doesn't work.
It is obvious to me that it's an operating system bug that makes us go to work late every morning.
What confuses me most, is the fact that I had no problem for the first 4 months of usage. This fact indicates that some piece of software is responsible for this mess. But then again, why a hard reset does not resolve it?
Like I said, I cannot do anything to help but to share these thoughts with you.

It's OK now?
Did Wakeup Tweak solved the problem for all of you?
Or there is more to it?
Thanks,
Chris
I haven't try it yet cchris. I'll let you now.
By the way, I was in Cusago last week. Nice place!
SPB Pocket plus 2.x
If any of you are using SPB's pocket plus 2.1, it would be worthwile to uncheck the alarm feature and use the alarm provided by the OS itself.
I started to have the alarm working again.
It seems that Wakeup Tweak did the job. Alarm works perfectly ok now. I haven't got any problem for the last few days.
Hopefully someone can help me please. When I receive a phonecall, the phone no longer rings. If I put it to vibrate, that works OK. I have gone into the phone settings and played the ringtone so that's OK and the MP3 player functionallity is also working OK. When on a call everything is perfect. Even if I have the earpiece in, it still won't ring but again the earpiece is perfect while on a call. It would appear that something software wise has become screwed but I don't want to have to do a Hard Reset
I also use my PDA for Destinator v6 for GPS and mapping. It happily gives me my vocal directions.
I should also say that this has only just started happening in the last week or two. I did have to re-install my Destinator because it lost it's voice.
Can anyone help - PLEASE

Did you install a new rom? Hapened yesterday to me when I installed T-Mobile rom on my SPV M500
No. I running the same one for the past 6 months. Anyone else got any idea please/
Cormac
Hey Raven2000
Have you fixed the problem yet?
Cormac
I had a similar problem yesterday as well. I couldn't play any of my ringtones other than the windows default. (Try to see if the windows default ringtone works). My problem as far as I was concerned started after I installed xPad 2.1. Even after I deleted the program it would not work. I finally resorted to restoring from a backup which sorted it out. (I must start to schedule using xbackup on a weekly basis) Hope this helps.
I've had this exact same problem with my Magician - I bought mine as a T-Mobile MDA Compact, and am now running the BigStorage ROM. I have tested this in the past - running it as a "clean" system (no other apps at all installed, factory-shipped ROM) and it seems to work fine - but when you start installing software, the ringing function on the phone seems to stop working - and the only ringtone that still works is the annoyingly crappy "Windows Default" piano-tune ringtone. If anyone manages to work out why this is happening and a way to fix it, I would be most grateful! I am still working on a solution myself.
I'm now running ver 1.12 from iMate's website and have the ringing back again. I am tentitive about loading up too many programs so keeping it to a minimum for the moment.
As a matter of interest, did you ever load up an alarm clock program? I have re-installed most of what I had previously so I am wondering about this since it would be one of the only ones which would mess with the sound
C
Correction to my previous post. After installing one program at a time, I found it wasn't xPad but another program called iMusic.
Have You installed a media player?
this happened once to me when installed a media player that got associated with the WAV and MP3 extensions so the default internal player stopped working.
Hope this helps.
As soon as I removed file association for the new program my JAM started ringing again!
So did you have to edit the registry or was there some other way to remove the erronious association ?
Cormac
MP3 File Association
That happened to me too. Are you using MP3 patch so you can use MP3 as a ringtone? If so when you install a program that deals with MP3 it might change MP3 association to that program. Try re-setting MP3 association to File Manager and problem is solved.
hi,
my PDA is not ringing or vibrating during incoming call.
only the small phone icon is displayed in the top bar when someone is calling me. Today screen remains unchanged, no ringtone, no vibration *regardless* of the settings. Tried everything. I can only hear a subtle ringing in my BT headset. So I need to walk all day with the stupid device in my ear
I am using HTC TyTN English qwerty, with SPB software suite, Polish localization pack, Voice Command 1.6, latest ROM at a few other software marvels, headset is BT Akono HBH-600 (previously used flawlessly with SE P910i). The problem persists from the very beginning, from the clear phone itself.
Help / guides appreciated. I may have overlooked one vital option, the problem is I am positive I've crosschecked everything and looked everywhere.
ps Thanks for running this forum. It is a marvellous help and support, peacemaking source of strict and practical information. Respect!
My guess is that you have closed the phone (as opposed to just minimize it). Set your Task Manager to minimize the phone instead of closing and you should be okay (at least that was my problem)...
thanks, but no luck!
Firstly, I miss Task Manager. What I have in a list of running programs in Memory applet of Settings. Suprisingly, Phone application is not there! Even if it is running, not closed.
Secondly, even when I bring up Phone app with keyboard and everything, and call my PDA, there is still no reaction on the screen (except for mentioned little handset icon in the top bar near the signal meter). And no ringtone.
May this be caused by a Bluetooth device?
Ah, I also use PhonePlus application but it is only a dialing pad.
EDIT: just downloaded Task Manager 2.3 by FdcSoft.
Phone is not running as Process, but in Applications tab there are four occurences!
It is not present in Services.
I am really confused.
EDIT2: for the sake of investigation I reset my phone to factory settings. Incoming calls work OK: buzz, ringtone, white window displayed. So it is a software problem. In was wrong in initial post that the clean phone has a problem. Now restoring to start uninstalling programs, will keep reporting.

As far as I know it is an application, not a process. It's just an "add-on application" which makes it the "Phone Edition" of Windows Mobile 5. But I've been wrong before...
I use Magic Button and had to set the "Phone" to "Keep alive", and I have to be carefull to not close it using AEButton Plus...
solved
Spent virtually half night last night uinstalling app by app, resetting and making test calls. The offending application turned out to be Paragon Language Extender. (designed for Qtek 9100, that is right).
My phone is ringing now, thank you for your interest and time spent on this thread I had to reinstall everything back again, but I gained some experience!

FOR EVERYBODY'S INFORMATION:
I had same problem on my HTC TyTN:
I had a Russian ROM with all applications been localized to Russian language. I dislike to use localized software because the terminology of all system setting and even Excel/Word functions becomes too difficult to be understood. - It bothered me so much so I tried to find how to disable it (but without using re-flashing to English ROM) and accidentally found that ___a Russian language localisation can be disabled___ by making changes to top some keys named MUI under HKCU, HKLM. I succesfully delocalized the system, BUT incoming calls notifications stopped working - with the symptoms similar to the above. ... I did not found the way out except for restoring my Russian language pack (MUI) again...
It seems that the problem with this notifications relate somehow to the system language interface. If someone knows haw such a problem can be solved except for using default language - it would be perfect.
Hello!
I'm just trying the IneSoft Phone 4.4, because of its nice History features and callerID. I installed the trial version and initially everything worked fine. But after two days the CallerID does only show the default screen, instead of the skin i selected. Although I tried to select different skins and soft-reseted the phone I always get the default skin.
Does anyone has the same problem or any idea how to fix this issue?! (Reinstalling did not help!)
Or even better: Is there any free callerID supporting the "Mute Call" function (SUS2 unfortunately only support accept/reject call).
greetings,
gordon
Me too
Did you get any reply about this or find a solution elsewhere?
maybe because it's trial that's why it always displays the default skin.
I've searched many forums including Modaco and found a few posts from users having the same problem but unfortunately no solution
I dont think because its trial because initially it worked properly. The trial period is 14 days and it stopped working after three days. I checked the registry keys of inesoft and also the registry contains information to use the right callerID skin (standard_v.cid).
I'm uninstalling this program now and looking forward to try Iconsoft PhoneEx.
I had same problem and moved to Iconsoft Phone extender 1.2 which basically does the same function.
Hello! I've the same problem with IneSoft Phone 4.4, I've tried to uninstall the software then delete the registry keys and reinstall it again, the problem still here.
So I try the Iconsoft Phone Extension 1.2, it's look great and more smooth than the IneSoft Phone. However, I've found that the "#" button is no function after install this software.
So I'll get back to the IneSoft Phone, although just only could use with the default skin.
i have inesoft phone for about 2 months now but version 4.2 only but doesn't give me any problem like what you guys described
