I-Mate JAM hangs showing backup battery low warning - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

After my last firmware upgrade to 1.0.6 jam will started showing backup battery low warning randomly and will touch screen will hang first. I know that the backup battery is 100% and main is 85%. After some time all buttons will also hang and to solve this I’ve to soft reset the device. This is very very irritating. Please helpppppp………

That used to happen with my Qtek S100, with both the previous ROM's to 1.11. However this last update corrected this problem, finally.

Can I load non I-Mate firmware 1.1.1 to JAM? Please tell me how can I do that. What are the major changes in 1.0.6 to 1.1.1

Well, I'm not sure about this, it would require addional searching in this forum. I guess the main disadvantage would be the GSM bands used. I think your model is an US unit (850MHZ 1900MHz bands) and since I am not sure if Qtek ROM supports the 850 MHz band I wouldn't advise you AGAINST upgrading. But you should easily find an answer in a previous post.
The main advantages I found were: the Backup Battery Low freeze, much faster response when touching the screen and much faster OS in general ( when entering PIN number, for instance, with previous ROM versions there seemed to occur some kind of lag). You can also find some more info about this in previous posts.
Happy searching

yes you can upgrade to 1.11 with no problem.... and in case the new rom doesn't support gsm 850Mhz then don't upgrade the radio rom... just upgrade the OS ROM and you should be fine.... the radio rom that comes with the qtek 1.11 supports GSM 900,1800, 900/1800, 1900 but not 850
a little searching in the forum and you will find the answers to many questions

Always on line for xda 1??

Any body knows for xda 1, you can keep checking new mail arrival through GPRS?
I heard people using xda 2 can do that. But is there any chance xda 1 can do the same thing?
Actually, when u do the setting for POP account, it ask u to set how many minutes to check for new messages. But it never work because the GPRS will close automatically.
Thanks very much. :?
Sure it can be done!
Take a look at:
http://www.o2.co.uk/productsservices/xda/romupgrade/0,,170,00.html
BTW the above is one of many!
also where are you located?
HTH
I am using the most updated PPC2002 version already. (3.20.06 ROM and 4.21 Radio)
Do u mean I have to upgrade to PPC2003?
I doubt that because they are not very stable for me to use in Hong Kong so far from other guy's comments in this website.
Thanks very much.

Since you're already running the latest upgrade its suppose to work but since it doesn't I would have to say that your always-on settings are at fault. So go to Start, Settings, Connections and make sure that its set to not disconnect.
HTH
Are you sure that it is also for xda1 ?
I can't locate that "not disconnect" setting.
Please clarify.
Thanks so much.

It should say some thing like this:
GPRS connection to remain active once the device enters power save mode.
At least it does on the PPC 2002 latest AT&T ROM and the XDA developers Special Edition ROM v1.2. (which is bases on the O2 3.17.03 ROM).
HTH
That's really strange for my O2 xda!
I only found a setting called GPRS Suspend Mode setting.
It said,
When you are in power-saving mode, do you want to:
- Keep GPRS connection
- End GPRS connection
I clicked on the first one.
Then I close it, and connect to GPRS.
Just for a while, the connection ends by itself.
Any thought?
Thanks a lot again.
Yeap thats the correct setting and the same one I'm speaking of!
I read a lot of bad reports about the 4.21 radio stack so it might be at fault.
Maybe you should think about upgrading to the Qtec radio stack, heard nothing but good reports on that one.
The Qtek 1010 Radio Stack Upgrade can be found at:
http://www.carrierdevices.com.au/downloads.php?region=Asia Pacific
Download Radio Upgrade File : RSUv1.15_(GPRS_T32500_ENG).exe
BTW read the WARNING.
BTW do you have a URL for that newer o2 ROM, I'd like to install it and see if it does the same for me/
HTH
Here it is.

BTW, I am a bit nervous to install the radio file cause I have bad experience that almost kill my phone.
Is it really okay just to install the radio file?

Unable to download, it kept asking for a IMEI.
You wouldn't happen to have the direct download link would you?
Oh! I didn't realize that...sorry.
I am still a bit nervous for upgrading (or is it actually downgrading) to the i-mat ROM.
If it is downgrading, I will definitely not try that...
Hi Qman,
I just notice that Yorch.net got the 3.20.06 ROM.
Also they have the 4.00.21 ROM (pre-release T-Mobile version). Is it for the US market only?
Chris
hi; Are you sure that Yorch.net got the 3.20.06 ROM??? Can't find it. I have downgraded my XDA yesterday from the kitchen wm2003 because of bugs to kitchen 2002 but it says 3.17.03 and not the one you mention???!!!
Hey,
That's not from the "kitchen". It's from the "upgrade" just under "kitchen". Check it out again and you will find it.
Anybody knows that 4.00.21 is good for o2 xda?
Chris
hmmm, currently I am using it
so far so good but there is one major BUT for me - most possibly that version makes wipe out my 256MB SD card every up to 48 hours
for me it is a major .... item
regards,
monika
That's terrible. What about the GPRS and phone reception?
To be honest, I won't use it if it will wipe off the sd contents every 2 days.
Have you tried to burn again?
so far GPRS is not working ....
but that is due local GSM provider that has some complicates setup as to make GPRS to work, phone recption is ok ... I am living in area where virtually all GSM phones had reception problems (i.e. majority of nokia phones), although in a city center it is perfect ....
just for you to know ... I have received a link from one of the group members for the most recent update - look there for details :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=4556&highlight=4+01+00
regards, monika
Thanks very much for your reply.
But I think that Upgrade exe file is for US only cause that include the radio upgrade as well.
So, are you able to downgrade your 4.00.21 easily?
I am not sure whether its worth to downgrade your device to 3.20.06 to see whether its a real problem with SD card. And to upgrade it to 4.00.21 again to verify it. It may happen only at some occasion as you know electronic device can never guarrentee functioning 100%.
Hope you can fix your device.
Cheers

2.26 Rom Rocks!!!!!!!!!

Last Night I made a clean install of the 2.26 rom on my wizard and I have to say, overall peformance is way better than the previous roms ive used. On my previous roms, the highest speed I got up to when surfing the net was 79 kbps, with the 2.26 rom, ive got true edge speed going up to 155kbps. Service never drops, and its much much faster. Although I excluded all t-mobile customizations since they are really no use at all. I get 4 bars almost everywhere I go. Streaming radio audio never drops. So, for me this has been the best rom that Ive used. Finally T-mobile has done something appreciative.
I agree, having had two issues with the 1.08 ROM. First, Voice Speed Dial would lose its list about every five days and Speed Dial's list would become simultaneously corrupted, some items being recoverable, some not. I got so tired of re-creating the list I just quit using VSD. MS Voice Command is on order. Second, the handset speaker volume was too low even when at max volume.
I won't be using VSD again, but so far (two days) SD has not become corrupted. I'll be satisfied when a week passes without an incident. The handset speaker volume is improved, and I can now hear conversations in noisy atmospheres without as much straining.
I've also noticed that it is more stable, and faster. Overclocking at 240 makes the MDA run like my old Ipaq running at 400 mhz., and menus zip in and out, with programs loading faster. Soft resets are also faster.
In the past I've resisted loading new ROM's, but this time it seemed like the right time, especially with the hope those two issues would be fixed. I'd say I'm happy so far.
...
I just don't understand. I was using the old, custom 2.08 or something ROM and was doing just fine (other than it disconnecting sometimes)... and after upgrading to the 2.26 ROM, I can barely get any signal anywhere at all. I used to have four bars at home, now I'm lucky to get two and usually get one. Sometimes, I get zero and have to wait before making calls. This NEVER happened before.
Is there something I'm supposed to reset after upgrading my ROM? This just doesn't make any sense.
I will never learn. Everything was fine, except of course MS Voice Command & Bluetooth, on the ROM version my Wizard shipped with earlier in the year.
Friday I installed the T-Mobile 2.26 update, then reinstalled Goodlink. Fine, then Smartskey & RegistryWizard. Looking good, then Goodlink errored out. On a soft-reset, the Wizard hung at a Windows splash screen. Hard-reset, reinstalled Goodlink and Smartskey. Seeming fine for a while, installed MS Voice Command (skipping past the message about Microsoft being an unknown developer). Still ok, then a day later errored out again. A soft reset hangs the Wizard again at the Windows splash screen.
I'll try it now with just Goodlink.
is there anybody know how to install the rom only without the extended rom, as i need to keep my extended rom as it is.
ROM 2.26 on Dutch T-mobile MDA Vario
Hi people,
I wanted to know is it possible to install the 2.26 ROM on my Vario.
If I'm not mistaken the 2.26 ROM is the US version of the MDA Vario.
I'm currently using the MDA Vario Dutch OS. But would like to have the English OS.
Do I need to CID unlock and/or SIM unlock my device before attempting to install this ROM?
Is there any risk in attempting to install it without CID/SIM unlocking it.
Thanks in advance.
Shah
you probably can. im not really sure, but if its still the same phone provider, i dont think you have to cid/sim unlock the phone.
the US version should be fine...its runnig on my UK Vario
if you are running a v1 ROM (no push function) its worth CID and SIM unlocking now..cos at the moment there is no tool to do it on a v2 rom.
As long as your phone is a T-mobile, you dont need to CID unlock before upgrade, but if you wanted to use a QTEK/Imate rom, then you would
good luck..the upgrade is worth it
Thanks people for the quick response.
I will consider upgrading to the new rom.
But one last question is the language issue a problem for a ROM upgrade? I just want to be postive before going through with this venture.
Because T-mobile Netherlands give a 2 year warranty on the Vario, but if I install the new ROM even if it is the T-mobile (other country) ROM
my warranty will void (really stupid T-mobile)
and if the update fails for any reason. I will need to do some extra work for nothing.
Shah.
Update on Uk T-mobile Vario.
I cant get it to work on my vario. Comes up with "wrong vendor" error.
Please post a link or info for UK version please.
Thanks .

You cannot install on a UK t-mobile wizard a USA t-mobile rom, even if they're both from t-mobile.
You must either:
- CID unlock your device if you're still using a 1.x rom (use lokiwiz 0.2b for the unlocking)
OR
- follow my tutorial to install the rom if you've got a 2.x rom (the tutorial is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=56088 )
Bye
Thanks risidoro,
I will then try to unlock my 1.x ROM first and then update my ROM. I have interestingly followed other threads in this forum.
But I couldn't find any answer to the queston: When CID unlock in ROM 1.x is the device still unlocked when installing newer ROM 2.x?
In my case installing the US ROM 2.26 is it still unlocked??
EDIT: Reason is to find out if it might be possible to install or try other ROMs if I want to lateron.
Thanks in advance.

CID unlock is like death: you can have only one
[yes, CID unlock is sticky. Do it only once and it'll last forever, even if you go to 2.x]
Thanks Risidoro,
I'm gonna try the unlocking one of these days.
Just hope the US rom also corrects the errors in the ETEN dialer of PaulyA.
I think other language ROM aren't that compatible with the ETEN dialer.
Just love the phone dialer, only those stupid buttons (End button) that never becomes a Talk button.
Once again risidoro a lot of thanks.

I use SPB GPRS Monitor to check the data rate. It works great, but it's not a freebie.

Hi All,

Shame cos the update seemed worthwhile.

Wouldn't have anyting to do with it as my phone is supercid and just for kicks I reverted back and flashed the ATT update when it came out. I ran it for 4 days with no gprs problems. Then flashed back to our talented cooked roms here. Has to be some other reason.

HI,
I wanted to test this GSM update, but wanted to know what are the exact steps involved in installing this. I am a newbie and don't have much knowledge of these things. I am currently using Artemis Touch 4.02Rom full with cube. Can you help ?
Pretty good on reception and better on battery too..
I have HTC Love and I flased this rom a day ago. Battery lasted more than a day with over 2 hours of talking and another 2 hours of music playback and solitire now and then... I am impressed. Would like to know about other's experience too...
Still need to test it for a couple of days before I can give my final comment on this Radio.
Thank you, brothers sharing the spirit,
Is RUU brush-pack?
Battery life is not good, and I am having "out of coverage" claims by my patients. So 3.18.90 is better.
My ROM is YuE 4.4.
not good
Battery is not good at all, it drains power with bluetooth in no time. I don't know without bluetooth head set, my previous one was much better.
I've installed it and will post my experiences soon.
I download and try. Thanks

I fixed this by using Pof's USPL Utility, which makes my phone SuperCID.

I will test the new radio rom (I upgraded from 3.06.90) in these days and post back my thoughts.

Orbit Xda O2 with radio 03.21.90
After the upgrade, for every phone call there is an annoying hum and the battery is consumed very quickly. For me, 03.18.90 is better.
Ive used every rom which has come out and Im normally a firm believer of the newer the better but I have finally gone back to 3.08.90 and feel it is the best.
Which rom is best depends on your usage.
I am a light phone user but I have push email on so GPRS is always on. Here in the UK on T-Mobile 3.21.90 ate up battery and I could barely make it through the weekend before the battery died. The signal was also poor in areas with bad coverage.
3.18.90 was a bit better for battery and coverage but battery still went down really fast.
Went back to 3.08.90 as Ive used this before and was alwasy happy and I firmly belive for my usage its the best. Crystal clear sound, battery lasts 3-4 days, almost double 3.21.90 and when I enter an area with poor coverage the conversation can continue and it picksup the signal a lot quicker.
For those who dont use GPRS and push mail you most likely last quite a while longer and just so happen to recharge in that time so dont notice the drain.

Did you even read the link? It tells you what to do.
Plus, your not giving us much info to go on. And actually, I'm guessing if you searched with some of the details of how your nosgm started, someone probably already experienced it and has a conclusion of how to fix/couldn't fix.
help me please infor me step by step
No GSM showing means that something went wrong with the radio rom upgrade.
I suggest that you try to downgrade to the official rom for your device. Then you can upgrade to whatever version of OS you want, but make sure that the rom does not contain radio upgrade.
The Issue "No GSM" is because of bad sodering contacts between the QC and Samsung flash or the Samsung CPU and the contiguous flash (samsung) and it resuts all the strange behaviours of this HTC model. Anyway for me it's another proof of samsung quality
Low emission soldering + thin ICs (big foolish sandwich FLASH/CPU) + over located Keyboard = possible cold/bad contact soldering problem.
The proof is the many "NoGSM" issues got without any trying ROM update, or the too many 2XX errors during upgrade.
Do you have a problem with the radio not working?(not able to receive signal, make/receive calls/text?) Cause i had the same problem. Anyways, the way i fixed it is by dissasembling the 8525, and reassembling it back together. Then i flashed the official wm6 rom with 1.48 radio, and it works fully now.
I heard that no gsm can occur with a failed radio flash, which i think is unrepairable, except by replacing the motherboard. If it wasnt a failed radio flash, then i think theres several methods to remedy it. Just try all the methods including mines. Hope you get it to work, theres been too many "no gsm" errors lately. Whoever designed the 8525 should be shot for making such a weak phone.
