software for 850 Jam - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

Does anyone know of a way to tell if the JAM is operating on 850? I have the Qtek Norwegian (I think) 1.11 ROM in there and I'm pretty sure that I lost 850. But I want to make sure. I'm on tmo US so, 850 is not that important but in case I switch carrier; I need to know this as this ROM is extremely stable for me. It's never had to reset once since I've updated the ROM.

Is there way to have signal in EU with T-Mobile Radio ?

Hi everybody,
i just do some updates to my XDA ...
first i do the 4.00.16 ENG T-Mobile US rom... end all ok.
after i do the T-Mobile RU 6.24.00 and i never take the GSM service (i live in Italy)
after i do the AT&t A 20.10 and i never take the GSM service also
last i return at O2 4.21 that i hate because every time that i lost the GSM service, he never come back until reset...
Is there some way to take a european GSM service with some T-Mobile os AT&T radio stack please ?
Thanks all
Denis
did you switch to the 800 band? if its set to 1900 (for the us) you won't get a signal. you should get coverage on the 800 frequency.
This is a well known problem among many users. I have been "fighting" against this since some weeks. I almost tried everything. Even when I tried a T-mobile radio stack together with a T-Mobile SIM-Card (Austria) it did not work properly. After some hours it loses the signal and a soft reset is required. I never had any errors during installation of ROMs or radio stacks.
I am wondering if it would make sense to bring it in for service.
My last hope is an update of the radio stack (maybe together with the WM2003 update).
At the end of the day I can say that the XDA is not the thing I need. Maybe the XDA2 is better.
Exactly for this reason i want to change my XDA with XDA II... but in Italy is only some XDA II buyed from Germany... well have german language os.
Anyware... if somebody now how to make funntional the T-Mobile radio stack in europe ... please let me know.
Thanks all
Denis
It appears that the best thing going right now for you European users is the latest Qtek 1010 Radio Stack Upgrade.
It can be found at:
http://www.carrierdevices.com.au/downloads/asiapacific.htm
Download Radio Upgrade File : RSUv1.15_(GPRS_T32500_ENG).exe
BTW read the WARNING
Also from the looks of the site this RS might be pretty close to the one thats being used in the XDAII....?
HTH
How do you know that this is the best RSU for Europe ?
Any personal experience ?
Romania (yes ... it's Europe)
Here I'm using a T-Mobile US phone with 6.24.00 with no problems, including GPRS.
I've also a custom built 4.00.21 (and I can't wait for the 4.01.00  )
So it should work without problems on the 900 band. The 1900 is no use and also you cannot get to the 1800 since hardware defaults.

Horrible Reception

i've been using my jam for about 4 months now and i had horrible reception with it since i brought it to America, when i used in Saudi Arabia i never had a reception issue. Well for the last week and couple days i've been using this extremely old nokia 3590 and i get full reception with it, specially in my house where i would usually have no reception with the jam. my jam i forgot if my jam is the 850 or 900mhz jam. i know cingular runs on 1900mhz and another i think 850mhz. Well does anyone have issues with reception on a "foriegn" network? and know of a solution?
What Rom Ver are you running there and what is the radio stack ver , sometimes it helps to change the radio stack . . . upgrading it or downgrading it . There's quite a few posts regarding radio updates.
Cheers
horriable reception!!
I used mine in india whilst trekking no probs. I regularly travel all over the world and have had no issues wit phone use. Except takes alittle while to log in to a network.
isnt there a version which is 900 1800 800 /1900 mhz for the US ?
Im sure I read it some where.
maybe your not picking up all the transmitters.
i'm on Rom version 1.12.00 WWE Radio Version 1.13.00 protocol 1337.43 and ExtRom 1.12.167
Mine is the 850/1800/1900 and i think cingular runs on 900 aswell as 1900, also the old at&t network which is now cingular is 850 so why am i not getting good reception? i was reading theres a bigstorage rom where you can select the mhz frequency you want the antenna to run on.. anyone know if that would be a fix?

I don't think it is the hardware. I'm using an XDA Mini, which is the European version. It is loaded with the Imate softare off of this site, and I pick up Cingular towers (though my service is through T-Mobile). You might try updating your ROM.
I am in the LA area.
ROM 1.13.00 WWE
Radio 1.12.10 1337.42
ExtRom 1.12.188 WWE (But I have modified to BigStore)
you can download the radio freq select cab file on its own , do a search on the forum for something to that effect as its somewhere.
then you can manual select them.
thanks for the updated info. Steve, thanks for the info, knowing your using a "foriegn" magician in the us helps me a little. right now i'm downloading the latest WWE rom from the FTP site, i think its 11200_188_11210. if thats not the lastest, please advise me so i can get the latest rom.
also steve your on 1.13.00 because your using the bigstorage correct?

Well, it is a long story. I went to the UK site and downloaded their upgrade program. Then I backed up my ROM, and used the NOID program to update the UK ROM. The actual EXE file at the UK site won't work unless the device is actually from the UK, hence the "NoID" version of the updater has to be used. BTW, ActiveSync needs to be in normal mode (USB "checked") and the Magician has to be in Boot Loader mode when the NoID upgrader program is executed. The documentation was a bit inconclusive on these two points. The above combination worked on my unit.
At that point I had a latest UK version ROM, and it worked fine. But now I had the "upgrade bug", and wanted to customize everything. Taking a deep breath...
I discovered the addresses for the Extended storage and changed them to make that ROM a BigStorage ROM. There was already a UK version Big Storage available on the ftp site, but for some reason it would not complete the boot after flashing the ROM. Anyway, I ended up with the UK ROM modified for Big Storage, and decided to use the latest released IMATE Extended ROM utilities. Then I changed the boot screen and - there it is. OK, OK, so I do things the long way...
I tried the UK Ext ROM stuff also, but they have things that do not apply to the US T-Mobile, such as Blackberry push from their servers. So my unit is a hybrid...
Just call it FrankenMini!
The only co$t is for a 256 mb SD card to contain the ROM image as you transfer it to and from the PC. Actually, 128Mb would do, but the 256 was just about as cheap.

thanks for all this information, and sorry to have you go through all this, but i've just figured out a simple fix.... I'm going to trade in my jam for a k-jam, since its quad band and it runs on WM5.0 i think i'll be happier with it. although its a little thicker i think i'm gonna go ahead with the transition.
Thank you again for all your info, but does anyone know where i can get a picture of the jam next to the k-jam, i remember some site had pics of them together but i can't seem to find it now.

K-Jam is OK as well, but I would never use the keyboard and it is too thick for me. The JAM is just right.

Latest (I think) ROM for the Qtek 1020 (Wallaby)

I noticed that the ROM version on my new Qtek 1020 was 4.02.04 which seems to be higher than anything else on the xda-developers FTP so it could perhaps be useful to those wanting to update it on their Wallaby variants? I will say use at your own risk though because I haven't tested it on any other Wallaby device so I don't know how it'll work. I've zipped it up and put it on the FTP site in the Uploads/Qtek1020ROM directory, just extract the zip and use XDAtools to flash (I recomend using the SD card flash method rather than a direct USB flash).
Regards,
Neil.
From where did you get this ROM?
It´s really the "newest" ROM on the market. But it doesn´t include the wmodem application... :-(
Thx for Uploading.......
Stefan
Hi Stefan,
This ROM came pre-installed on my Qtek 1020 when I received it from Microdirect (UK seller). It's SIM unlocked by default but my 1020 only sees Vodafone and O2 networks in the UK. I think that might be a radio stack or hardware issue though.
Regards,
Neil.
new rom - kewl, but what RSU do you have?
Neilius - thanks for the ROM. which version of the radio stack was installed on your phone with this ROM? and, finally, do you have the PW10A or PW10B version of the Wallaby?
Here's all the info in my Device Information readout:
ROM version: 4.02.04 ENG
ROM date: 8/24/05
Radio version A.33.02
Protocal version: 1.3.3
Regards,
Neil.
Looking at the profile icons on the left, he's got the PW10B which if you got it in the UK, whoever sold you it is selling American imports!!
That would explain why you can't see Orange or T-Mobile as American phones are 900/1900 instead of 900/1800 in Europe. 900, 1800 and 1900 being the frequencies used. Orange and T-Mobile are on 1800 in UK, O2 and Vodafone on 900.
Yeah this is weird: the software actually says PW10B1 under the Identity tab of Device Information whilst the physical label on the back of the thing tells me its a PW10A1! Here's the product page from the seller:
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductID=11864&GroupID=0
Rgds,
Neil.
sounds like a bit of creative advertisment to me
all it means is that you won't be able to use orange or t-mobile networks (which will include virgin) in the uk, and if you go to europe, you'll only roam on 900Mhz based networks.
The good news is, if you go to the states, the phone will work perfectly
EDIT: Looking deeper at the advert, it does say ...
"Note: Only compatible with phones working on 800 or 1900 GSM"
Although I think they mean 900 or 1900!!
Still doesn't explain the sticker on the back!
Thanks for the heads up, this is a little strange but it seems they just got a load in really cheap or something.

Just out of pure curiosity I checked my other half's XDA (she tol me she got it when they first came out!) and it's exactly the same - PW10A1 on the sticker, but PW10B1 according to the software!
Oh you're not the only one to be caught out it would seem!!

The model number shown in the Windows is fixed in the ROM. Therefor the one and only possibility to check if it is a PW10A or PW10B is looking at the rear sticker...
Stefan
Well has anyone tried it? is it any good? and will it stop my xda from deleteing my sd card?
I'm using it (as it came installed on my Wallaby anyway) and everything seems to work well.
Regards,
Neil.
Will give it a try then and see how it goes cheers for the reply get really anoyed when the sd card gets blanked hope your version fixes that problem.
Good luck with it! As far as I know it's completely unbranded and seems as 'original' as possible - no Phone company customisations etc. Also, you can't reflash via USB once you install this ROM, only SD card flashing will work. As I say, I've had no problems with it, everything seems to run well, I can use GPRS fine (after setting it up with the correct login information from the Vodafone website). Having MSN Messenger on the devicie is proving to be very useful indeed when I'm out and about!

Neil.

Upgrading a t-mobile mda pro with another operator's rom

Is upgrading a t-mobile mda pro with another operator's rom workable? I know it's technically possible but before I risk my expensive toy I'd much rather know if someone has tried it out before, and if so, with which operator's rom??
TIA!!!
I do it all the time, only thing is you have to have your operators mms/gprs/utms settings.

Create a ROM backup before changing to the new one- just in case of any problems or indeed if you had to return the device under warranty.
Is there a rom that's preferable to use? Or are they all the same, hardware support wise?
Please pretty please? I'll settle for knowing which rom you upgraded your tmob mda pro with :-D
And BTW this is my P 100 post
Hi, I have the latest imate rom currently running on my TMobile MDA Pro, it works absolutly fine. TMob do have an AKU2 rom in production, infact it is shipping with newly purchased Pro's but as yet does not seem to be available for existing customers
If you do install the imate rom you can find the GPRS/MMS etc settings you'll need here and full instructions for doing the upgrade can be found in this post over at 4WinMobile.com.

Dopod ROM on i-Mate Jasjam

Anyone know if it's possible to over-write the i-Mate ROM with a Dopod config - and still have a fully-functional phone?
I bought an i-Mate from Telstra (before the Dopods were released by 3) and am using it on Hutchison/3 network. Works fine except for streaming media etc which requires the handset to be recognised by their servers.
Wondering if I can load the Dopod 838Pro firmware (Dopod is supported by 3) to fool the system.
Any ideas or advice?
you can, please see the wiki.
in regards to the telstra JASJAM rom, it has a bootloader of 1.06 which means you cannot install another CID's ROM.
If you download the generic WWE ROM for the JASJAM from the wiki you then have bootloader 1.04 which will enable you to install another CID's ROM.
Please also read the info on the wiki about making your device super CID etc.
Exercise extreme caution because if you do not know or not comfortable with what you are doing, you might brick your shiny new jasjam.
Also, ive heard from fellow dopod owners on the 3 network that straming media over their Planet3 doesnt work on these devices.
i-Mate Dopod
Thanks for that jjming.
Might hold off until I know that 3 have got the Dopod going on Planet before I try anything cute. I had heard they have temporarily put the 838Pro on hold until December - not sure why.
Whatever the outcome of the Dopod, I'm going to have to fix this thing myself if I want it to work. It's almost impossible to have an intelligent conversation with their "customer care" reps, because they all seem to be just reading off a script.
I think "The Wedge" have got that scenario pretty accurately mapped.
Failing that I might see if anyone wants to do a swap - Dopod for a JasJam.
No need to do anything as you have said, the streaming video over planet 3 will not work whether or not you change the rom. But the new Rom from South Africa is very good and I have had much less drop outs in areas that have 3g to GPRS changeover since switching roms. It is also much more stable and zippier too. But alas, planet 3 streaming video or video TV (wanted to watch the poms get thrashed in the ashes series) still don't work.
cheers
