Every time I send an sms (after clicking on options and selecting SMS deliery report), I never get the report back, earlier (about 2 days ago, I used to), but since then, nothing. And I haven't added any new s/w or done anything to the phone. What could possibly be the reason? Any thoughts? Thanks.
well a thing like that could also be an issue with the phone company
O2 pay as you go never gives sms delivery receipts but if you type *0# in the "subj" box (below the number you are sending to) you will get them.
Thank you for your replies, appreciate the same. Did a soft reset and things are back to normal, sms delivery reports are now working.
Sorry to bring this up again but my Imate is still not receiving the sms delivery reports. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Is there any way to set the default to getting a delivery report?
I can't even find an option for a delivery report on the XDA II !!
Are you sure it's there in the options menu of the SMS prog ??
Ravi
Hi Ravi, the option for sms delivery notification is in the new sms screen, bottom left, edit, then options and then check the box. However in my case, even after doing that for all individual sms', I still dont' get delivery reports....used to get them initially about a week ago but nothing ever since....... anyone having this problem?
Vikas
Hi. I do not have a XDAII but still the XDAI. However, since flashed with WM2003, I do not get sms report either. I'm just wondering if it is not a WM2003 bug somewhere.
I'v never ever ever managed an sms receipt on XDA1
Has anyone managed an SMS delivery receipt on the original XDA? Maybe its down to the carrier not the phone. I'm on an O2 contract and it wont work at all!!

Hi, All I can say is I have been with O2 UK since 97, I have used Nokia 9000, 9110, 9210, 9210i, XDA, XDA2 and none of these phones will give you a SMS receipt. This is O2, not a fault on our phones.
The only way to get a receipt is at the start of your message is type *0#
O2 should really move with the times. We own one of the most advanced mobiles on the market and there support, leaves a lot to be desired.
StayLucky Regards Jim
Do O2 then charge you for the text reciept?
So all i have to do is type *O# (is that a zero or an oh?)
so start the message *O# then put a space and then typr the text?
Hopefully that will work then. No doubt O2 will fleece me and charge for the reciept!
Cheers for the info.

O2 Delivery reports
One word of warning with the *0# thing... people won't be able to reply to your texts! Dunno why this is, but whenever I send a text with delivery reports turned on, if someone tries to reply to my text it fails!!
You can reply to them!
Thanks for the warning Pope.
Just tested it out by sending a message to the missus' phone. I got a delivery report and she was able to reply direct!
Mind you hers is a vodafone so it might just be an O2 thing once again?
Cheers for the tip anyway; i shall only use the *0# thing.. on people I know once I have explained there may be a problem with replying.
By the way I notice that the reply says that it comes - from "joe bloggs" just as it would if you recieved a text from the person; if they were in your contacts list. Does that mean that the recipient is paying for the report?
The reason why O2 doesn't allow delivery reports is down to the sheer vloume of SMS that get sent via the network every day. Because of the Online accounts getting all the free SMS's (both P&G and Contract) along with the message bolt-on's and current 400 per month Retail offers on new connections, the network is saturated by SMS messages. Adding delivery reports would cripple the network completely. I have been told by O2 Dimensions that the daily amount of SMS sent each day over our network is 4 times that of the next competitors!!!!

I currently have an XDA I and expecting an i-Mate XDA II in a week or so. Has anyone else experienced SMS Spam? I get about 30 SMS Spam message a day !!! My current XDA I is through AT&T and they said they need SMS to download software updates. Although, my XDA II will be an i-Mate and not supported by AT&T, therefore I should be able to turn SMS off.
Is there any way to turn SMS off on the XDA II?
Thanks.
Mate, afaik there is a law in the States protecting you against it. You need to register with a service. Dunno though if it's with AT&T or provider independant.
Thanks, I'll check into that.
Dunno if it's a "system command" but here in Holland we can block (commercial) SMS by sending "stop" to "255"
(w/o quotes ofcourse  )
Hope this is the correct forum... if not mods feel free to move it
Details are:
Network: o2 (UK)
Phone: XDA II
ROM: 1.60.00WWE
Radio: 1.10.00
Protocol V: 1337.18
ExtROm V: 1.60.50
I have this really annoying problem with my o2 XDA II, where I cannot reply to SMS messages without a failure.
If I write a SMS from scratch and select the contact from my contacts list it will enter the contact number as "07799123456" and the text will send without any problems.
however if I was to receive a SMS from someone and hit the reply button (like we all do) and send the SMS I get a lovely "Your SMS message could not be sent" and it goes in to drafts. When replying it would eneter the number as "Name" <+447799123456>;
Then if I go in drafts and try to send it will show the same error... and keeps doing it. So I have to CUT the text from the message, do a new message and select the contact again and send it... this was it will send the message.
Why does it do this? and is there a cure for it? Its really, really annoying.
Any help you can give will be appreciated!
thanks!
Steve McKeogh
I have the same problem occationally, for me it looks like th eproblem occurs when replying to a contact which have another operator than mine (Telia).
Message Centre
Hi there,
The problem could be occurring if you receive a message from another network. The issue is with a setting which would say "Reply using same centre". This means that the message you intend to send will go directly to the message centre of the other network. Obviously your message will not go through because you are not on that network! If this setting is disabled on the sender's phone and then you try to reply to his message you would not encounter this problem.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
Lakshman
ah right ok... bit annoying though cos I cant tell everyone I know(who has this setting enabled) to do this. There is a paticular contact it happens to and she always has a "Reply Request" enabled (i.e. on my old T-Mobile T610 it would say the user has requested a reply after i read all her messages). Could that be sumin to do with it?
Cant I change a setting on my XDA to send the message via the usual route it goes with it sends a message from scratch? This would work surely?
Thanks for your help, appreciate it!
Thanks,
Steve M

You just get a notification when your sms is delivered to the receipient...
HTH
Stefan
it sends you a confirmation SMS when your SMS has been consigned on receiver device (if he's out of coverage or with the device turned off you will not receiive the confirmation until the receiver is became reachable).
tested on Imate JAM, works perfectly.
imate jam already has this built in? check the options out when creating a new message it will have a tick box saying: Request message delivery notification
@gazzaman: yes, but you have to check it every time. This defaults it as checked.
ah cool cheers didnt know that
i wonder to know how to read SMS from SIM card?
anyone knows?

O2 Delivery reports
I don't get delivery reports with O2; I've read about a code that you need to enter before the message but is there any other way to activate it - who watched watchdog tonight o2 got a slatting :-(
O2 Sms delivery reports
To force an SMS delivery report on the O2 UK GSM network prefix the SMS message with *0# followed by the message. Example *0#Hello......
Incidentally, there are codes which can force an SMS message to screen, etc. but it is so long since I used them I have forgotten - anybody remember?
If you use that code to get a delivery report on O2 tho, if the receiever chooses to reply to your SMS, they will not be able to send the message. Not sure why this is, but I had this problem and after a little googling discovered that it's a problem with the way that O2 implements delivery reports!
Why oh why can't O2 just do it the standard way?!? Then we could just use the delivery report check box as well instead of having to type a code!!!
Is there a way to make my ppc advice me when a sms' delivery is FAILED?

Failure notification is dependent on your operator. They keep trying and eventually give up. Orange UK takes about 3 days then I get a text saying undeliverable.

I'm talking about a notification which would come when your ppc hasn't line.. So when your operator's line isn't avaible....
And the ppc doesn't send the sms...
I apologise for reopening an old thread, but I second this.
