another tip to speed up your universal

just uncheck 'receive all incoming beams' and check 'disable error reporting' in settings. This may be old news (but new to me ) and definitely increases responsiveness in my mda pro.
Not old news to me mate, thanks for sharing it does indeed speed things up
Chris
It does mean however that you cant receive incoming bluetooth files and IR files, not a problem for most, but just be aware.
As for the error reporting, It worries me that wm2k5 is so poor you NEED to report all the crashes to M$.
I see a raft of rom updates coming people.

Thanks so much for writing that! It might be obvious but for some reason my Exec had stopped receiving bluetooth files from the Mac. I couldn't work out why I was now getting 'service not supported'. I had turned off 'receive incoming beams' stupidly thinking that meant IRDA only.

I read somewhere that it was a (token) effort by Microsoft to address concerns WM2003SE users had regarding their poor support.
Let's face it, error reporting in full Windows versions didn't seem to make much of a difference to their support structure, so it's doubtful that it'll be much better where WM5 is concerned. But they can cover themselves now by saying "we were trying. Look, we introduced error reporting..."
MS
sub69, oh yes they do... MS will not be where they are now if they did not address the issues, its just that they are bl**dy expensive... Bill Gates being found fooling around with firefox, then a few weeks later tabular browsing introduced in IE... what u don't get from MS is the high visibility of what they are doing, they are a cathedral don't forget...

Wow - me too!
I think
Error reporting should stay on at every ones PDA,
at least for the first month (thats when you install all the proggs and get most of the error msgs).
after that - uncheck that option.
otherwise - how will they release better rom updates?

I may be a bit silly here....Bluetooth

Right, on the XDA IIi, if you go into file explorer and right click (press and hold) on any file, it gives you the option to send the file via bluetooth.
The Exec dosent have this
How do I send files from file explorer to other devices via bluetoth? Its a pain in the neck using Beam.
I don't think the BT profile file transfer has been added by M$ yet
Now thats very annoying
Anyone know of any updates?

I think that in this version of WM Beam means both IR and BT. Just select Beam and it will take some time until it finds other BT recipient and then just Tap it an there you go... At least this is on my JJ…
Yeah, you have to do it through Beam! Just like when we had the Microsoft BT stack on Himalaya!
So select send file via Beam and it will send through bluetooth?

Very messy isnt it. I couldnt work that out when trying to show off in the pub with my new Exec the other night! Since then have found that Resco File Explorer 2005 does give the option. Most of us use Resco don't we?!
Does Resco give the option of sending to paired devices first, without having to search for everything again?
The Broadcom stack on the 2i was so much better than the MS ones. TBH I'm suprised that they didn't include it on with the Universal build. Maybe there were contractual obligations to include the MS one?

How do you receive files/pictures/contacts via bluetooth?

Hi,
A bit new to PPC and the Magician, just got delivery of my i-mate JAM yesterday.
This might well be user error and a case of RTFM but I can't work out how I send contact information/ pictures/ mp3s or pretty much anything else to my JAM via bluetooth. I've tried sending files from my old P910 and also from a friends XDA IIi. I see no response on the JAM at all and the P910 just errors out saying it was not possible to send. The error message on the XDA was a little more meaningfull though I cant remember exactly what it was but something along the lines of the device not supporting the operation.
I've searched through all the posts on this forum and googled for an answer but not come up with anything yet
Its a brand new i-mate JAM with nothing extra on it running 1.11.0 WWE ROM, 1.11.0 radio version, 1.11.179 WWE ExtROM
THanks in advance for any help
You can use your File explorer and the send-to option to send files via bluetooth.
here is a challenge for all the pros in here
How to make this work(file explorer/resco explorer) with the Bluesoleil stack ?
How do you receive files/pictures/contacts via bluetooth

... or simply go into Settings>Connections>Beam>Receive incoming beams (checkbox).. After that, you should be able to receive both IR and BT incoming files.

Yes, that's all you need to do. My wife is constantly beaming appointments to my O2 Xda II mini from her Palm Treo 650 at home. When I next pick it up there are multiple items waiting to be saved. Works a treat.
The MS Stack the Magician uses only lets you choose whether to accept a file after it has already been accepted. If you recieve a 5 meg file, you'll get no confirmation until the transfer is complete, then it will ask if you want to accept.

I think all you have to do is Start/Settings/Connectoins/Beam and check receive all incoming beams. When you want to send a file via bluetooth, you select the file in File Explorer to bring up the beam. You will need to wait while WM finds the bluetooth devices (WM initially looks for infrared then bluetooth).
But here's the reg setting to answer your question...
15. Enable Bluetooth receive
Registry: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Obex
Key: IsEnabled (dWord)
Value: 1 = enabled
2 = disabled

It's funny how no matter how long you own these devices you never stop learning things. I have always had "spotty" ability to use the Bluetooth FTP service and this is why. Who would have thought you would have to turn on your infrared beam receive capability to make bluetooth receive also work. Very strange but thanks for the tip!

Yup, this has always been a problem with the MS BT stack. Also see my article I published about two months ago (it's worth reading all my articles because I've explained a LOT of never-before-explained issues like this) on the issue: http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=1196&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1

bluetooth problem WM 6.1

anybody have encountered this problem? i'm unable to receive any files through bluetooth, but i'm able to send files to another devices....
P.S
i'm also uses schap's advance config tools which enables my OBEX
Hi there, you should enable receive all incoming beams at connections settings.
of course i did that bro... i use to did that in my previous WM 6.0 helmi's ROM
hi there solved....
sorry guys problem solved.... my bad... WM 6.1 is great...
hi evoluzionne
how can u solve this problem, tell me please...
thanks
somehow, when we activate beam in our comm manager, its actually not turn on your beam.. so to deal with it we should check and recheck the options in settings-beam.. after turn the beam on just turn the bluetooth and try to send files again

Thank You. Had the same problem on my gf's tilt after the 6.1 update.
how about registry tweak?
i was thinking about registry tweak for this problem... so if we check the beam icon in our comm manager it will automatically check the 'receive all incoming beam' at the settings-connection-beam...
maybe anyone have managed to do this...
thank in advance
regards
evo
lol, i have been struggling with this for the past 3months, but never really bothered me.. thanks bro..
