Annoying\Major Bluetooth problems with MDA... - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

I've had my MDA (T. Mobile UK) for approx 2.5 weeks. It's been ok but as of the other day, the Bluetooth started playing up.
I use it in conjunction with a Parror CK3300 car kit which has in-built GPS for my Sat Nav.
Several times now, I've had to completely delete all associations with the Parrot on my MDA and pair them up from scratch.
Now a message keeps appearing saying "No Bluetooth Hardware Installed" on my MDA so I have to soft reset and then the Bluetooth works.
Is there an update or a fix for this at all? If I have to totally update it then I will but I have some info on there i'd like to keep and also, the MDA is unlocked so I don't want it to re-lock?
Please help

yes there is a patch, just have a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=20320
I suggest you use the search b4 being told off

Thanks for the tip but i've just done that and now my screen has gone weird... i.e. - where the Today part is and would normally show my tasks etc, it's now all messy and holds th display of whatever you used last even when I've used the "X" at the top right to close\minimise the program.

Have you done a soft reset? how much memory is free?

Wizard soft resetting by itself

I know that this problem has been mentioned in 2 posts earlier on.
I thought I bring it up again, maybe sb. has a solution or good idea.
My Wizard (K-JAM) resets itself in regular intervals by itself. After the reset, no input of PIN is required. Means you don't really loose the radio capability. It is annoying anyway.
Happens on the newest i-mate ROM but also happened on the earlier ROM version.
Could it be an application doing it ? I checked the notification queue, nothing abnormal there.
Anybody has the same problem or an idea ?
Cheers

My magician done that until latest T-mobile ROM
Perhaps a bug or 2 outstanding pending fix lists.
IF only vendors were like MS and had a publically viewable list of known bugs.
Then again if they acknowledge them we might get together for a class action.
My opinion is these devices are rushed to marked and vendors prefer to rush new models out instead of fixing existing issues.
Saw for the first time 5 minutes ago that my Qtek 9100 was doin a soft reset to ...
But as you said it only restart and no pin requierd so that's something you have to live with no updates yet.
Do you have Skype installed?
It did the same for me with Skype.
as meroupow said, i had reset problems until i removeed skype,
and resets went away
Never had Skype installed

Quite possibly way off topic but...
My old ipaq used to do the same to me all the time (i know its different hardware & software) but i eventually found it was flexing very slightly in my pocket. Added 1 aluminium alloy case - no more resets.
Just wondering if you wizard is under any physical stress that could be casuing a hardware fault / power interuption.

Thx for your advice.
The device has only been sitting on the desk or in my hands. It resets about every half hour wherever it is.
Cheers

btw: it resets also in flight mode !
i Know its a PITA but you might wanna go through a hard reset and see what it does on the basic "as shipped" setup. if its all ok add software 1 piece at a time until you see the problem reappear. if it fails after the reset you may have a faulty device, contact your seller.
If you find its "software x" do another hard reset and put that software on first, then see (to see if its X or if X is conflicting with another piece) then i'd make a new topic along the lines of:
Software X & Y on my wizard causing random resets
or
Software X and random resets

My XDA mini is doing exactly the same - I was searching to see if anybody else was getting this.
I think it may well be to do with Skype as I think it started after I installed it.
Mine does it while sitting on the desk, so it's unikely to be a loose battery or contact issue. Also the fact that the radio is not affected point to a SW poblem.
I'll get rid of Skype and see how it goes
reset
I have the same problem on my K-jam. I removed my 1GB MiniSD (Sandisk) from the slot and the reset problem was gone.
Then I put the MiniSD back to the slot and the reset problem came back again.

A pocket pc should NEVER reboot alone that is a huge bug.
The only way when it gets like this is hard reset.
Then use it for a while and if there is no soft reset start installing softwares one by one.
If it soft resets after hard reset change your rom to a better one or bring it back.
Hi,
I had the same problem as well, random reboots. I noticed as you did that removing the miniSD storage card fixes the problem; I then tried to reformat my miniSD and it *seems* the problem has now dissapeared... Regarding the applications, the first time I noticed that problem was maybe 5 mn after I got it out of the box (was brand new) ... with no applications installed at all !
Try formatting (and then copyback the files) the miniSD, it could help ...
The funny thing concerning that problem is that it does not ask for the PIN anymore ... it makes me think it could be a 'normal' behavior, as to say that under some circumstances, WM2005 deliberately decides to reboot the device ...
Mine did this in the car today, just sat in its cradle, suddenly I saw the blue "Windows Mobile" screen.
Never asked for a PIN, but it wasn't until I got home that I realised that it hadn't re-connected to my service provider.
A soft reset later, and it was working again.
Latest O2 rom.
Strange but true
Happened to me as well today... as i took it out of the pouch.. cursed myself of being clumsy... Now i feel better. 8)

QTEK S200 Bluetooth trouble, os runs slow also?

Hi, this is my first post on this forum after going through it for days, and i think i can ask this question without being referred to a wiki or previous post related to my problem. Here goes:
So i just bought a (second hand) QTEK S200. Now, when the guy i bought it from demonstrated it worked flawlessly, but when i got home and reset the whole thing, i can't get bluetooth to work properly.
Let me just note that i've worked with plenty pda's before and have a pretty good (intermediate) knowledge about bluetooth (had a nokia 6680 before, bluetooth heaven btw).
So when i go to settings>connections>bluetooth and i turn bluetooth on (wich works, the blue leds blinks) i try to install a few bluetooth devices (none installed so far), so i click devices>new partnership. It starts to search for devices and show them with theire mac address, he doesn't want to show the device name like all bluetooth enabled device do.
But ok, nevermind that it could be somekind of feature, you never know. So ok i recognize the device i want to add (only two showing, the gps and my pc) and click on it to install it. It asks for the pass, and here i notice that the blue led isn't blinking anymore, so i enter the correct password for the gps (i've added him thousands of times on my ex-cellphone and my GF's cellphone, the code is 0000, like almost all gps mouse) but then it says that the password is incorrect. I try multiple times and nothing.
So ok, i notice the flashing blue led stopped so i re-enable the thing and try again, this multiple times again with the same result.
But then i tried tricking it to keep the blue led flashing, i was trying to make the pda connect to the internet through usb, and that way i got in the settings>connections>connections menu. When i press the 'Add a new modem connection' link you can select a modem that runs on bluetooth, so i got the idea to try and add the gps through this menu. This time it worked, the devices found showed the correct names, and i could add them OK.
So happy as i was i added the com ports and such, all worked ok. Then i started tomtom6, all good, i added the gps with no problems, but when i actually got to navigate, the bluetooth connection dropped constantly, always like: no gps device found for like 40 seconds, then it resumes the navigation and 5 seconds later the connection gets dropped again, so this goes on in a loop forever i guess (tried it about an hour).
Oh, and working with that Comm Manager program doesn't help, i don't think it even works properly, that program doesn't know if the bluetooth is running or not, it just remember the state the button was in last, or something, cause it almost always indicates that the bluetooth is running without it actually running, so i click on it, it 'shuts down' the bluetooth, and when i click on it again, the bluetooth then works for real.
So my conclusion was, i need to get a working firmware or whatever there is some software-related problem here. Because the hardware does actually work, maybe not for long, but it does when it does.
Also, i feell like the pda is running in slowmo, slow reaction times (i know it's not a uber fast device, but sometimes it's really ridiculous how long i have to wait for a program to boot up, or just pressing the start button)
So i checked out the wiki to see if i have a G3 or G4 chip, so won't ruin the s200 when flashing it.
But i just can't make out if i have the G3 or G4. I suppose i have the G3 because SPL shows: 2.09.0000 (all zero's, but 4 of them) but the IPL shows 2.09
everywhere i read about those digits they always compare it to *.*.0001 for the spl and ipl. But there is no 1 at the end! Does this 1 matter? Or is it just the 4 digits at the end?
So this is what my screen shows on the boot up:
IPL 2.09
SPL 2.09.0000
GSM 02.07.20
OS 2.9.7.24
I think this is pretty old.
And another problem (this just doesn't end!) the SD card reader doesn't always show the storage card! I mean like, this is so basic, i don't understand why it doesn't, i've tried with multiple cards, on my pc it works but on the S200 it doesn't.
I hope someone can help me.
I'm also looking into unlock the CID first, and ofcourse it all depends on the type of chip i use, can somebody please confirm what i have?
Also, since all the roms have been removed, and there are soo many, wich is the right one for me? What are those AKU roms? Are they compatible with g3 chips? I don't really know the difference, how does this work?
/edit: ok found out what those aku roms (just updates?), but what then is the difference with the other roms available? And the sd card reader still doesn't work, it's been hours now, i've tried everything. Please someone, help!
Maybe i should shorten my first message:
Bluetooth drops the connection constantly, when i search to pair a device on the s200, when the search is over, the bluetooth shuts down (blue led stops flashing) and i can't add the devices it found, wich is logic, how can you make a connection when bluetooth is disabled? How do i keep bluetooth enabled no matter what? While still being able to shut it down manually.
Comm Manager doesn't work properly (bluetooth shows on when it's off and vice versa)
My SD card reader suddenly doesn't want to work, tried multiple cards, and simultaniously checking them on my computer card reader.
Sometimes slow respondtime.
I've tried everything multiple times, with multiple hard resets.
There's no software installed, everything been tested on a 'clean machine'.
Would upgrading the ROM (wich rom?) solve my problems? And how would i go about that? I've read the wiki but i'm none the wiser (half of the links don't work, i've read the post that everything's been taken down)
Why thank you for all the help. Thought i would at least get a "sorry but it seems your ... is defect you will have to replace it" or "here [link] you will find similar stories with a possible solution"
anyways, to update my post, i rma'd my s200 and it's been two months and two weeks since.. is that normal?

Rebuilt Wizard - now worse than before!

I desparately need help! I finally got fed up missing calls because my MDA Vario wasn't ringing or because it crashed when I tried to answer. I've had a problem for a while, in that after a day or two it will mysteriously stop making any noises. No menu clicks, no voice directions in TomTom, no notification sounds and worst of all, no ringing when a call comes in. The only fixes are to reboot or to go into Sounds & Notifications in Settings, go to the Notifications tab and then change the volume up or down! It's then fine for another day or two.
I finally got fed up and did a hard reset last week, put my data back on through ActiveSync and then reinstalled the following:
Opera
TomTom 5.21
Total Commander
SmartsKey
Omapclock
I set SmartsKey to overclock to 240mhz and used Total Commander to edit the registry and switch on caps indicator, enable the various caches as suggested in in the wiki, and to set GPRS to always on (as I'm on unlimited data). No other changes, no other software. I did install the trial of SPB Mobile Shell, but then removed it because I didn't like it. I'm on the standard T-Mobile firmware, ROM 2.21.2.6 WWE and I've not unlocked it at all.
The phone worked like a dream for a week or so after the hard reset, but now it's started doing the same thing with the sounds again! Furthermore, if I'm using TomTom it doesn't override the power save settings - so it turns off the backlight after 2 minutes and then turns off the phone after 5! It didn't do this before!
PLEASE can anyone help before I throw the thing out of the window and buy a Symbian smartphone!?
Thanks in advance,
Tim
Can nobody help?
Nobody have any ideas? Am I really the only one with this problem!?
Tim

Did you thik it maybe hardware not software!!!! Maybe your phones has a fault that comes and goes. I would take it into the shop to see if has a fault!
Can I suggest that you start with the basics. Do a hard reset but reset it before the extended ROM can install. (If you don't have a stock operator ROM installed nows a good time to do it). Don't install any software at all. It might sound a bit boring but it is important to establish if you have a hard ware or software fault.
Now run the fone for a few days and see if the problem returns. If it doesn't start to add your apps one at a time until you find which is the culprit. If it fails to work with the basic stock ROM you most likely have a hardward problem.
Going for repair
Thanks for the replies, all. As the phone is a year old in June and will therefore be out of warranty I spent 45 minutes this lunchtime on the phone to T-Mobile to get it sent for repair! They were fine about it, just deeply inefficient. Anyway, a prepaid bag is on it's way for me to send back. Any ideas if they will try to repair or just swap it out with another one? I imagine a fault like this which might be software or hardware and which only manifests itself after a few days will be more trouble to fix than it's worth? Anyone had any experience of getting one repaired?
Thanks again,
Tim
yeah, I had been p[laying about with roms for a few weeks and after what I think may be water damage or a drunken drop, my screen stopped working.
Take into account it was christmas time but still I received a brand new phone but had the old battery cover haha. They replaced the stylus too. My old phone was battered and screen was scratched so I was totally happy with the 3 week wait.
No questions asked although I did return my rom to exactly the one it came with, i was unable to re cid lock it.
Overall give T-mob time and it seems they replace phones ok
i did take mine into a t-mobile shop so don't know if that makes a difference (time etc) and was not covered by t-mobile insurance but my bank account has free phone insurance as back up
Hope that was of some help

WM5 vs. WM6 for 8525?

I read that there's lots of tweaks for WM5 for the 8525, but then I seen mention of a WM6 available, too. I presume it's a free upgrade on the AT&T website, or elsewhere online.
Now for the questions. Which OS works best for this device? Do the tweaks made for WM5 work with WM6 as well? Should I upgrade to WM6, or stay with WM5? For the GPS (maps), does it work with both or just one of the options?
Now for other (off-topic) experiences I have with my new [reconditioned] device.
a) After inserting my SIM card, about an half hour later, I attempted to call an 800 number (to activate a new bank debit card), which it didn't fully connect the call, although the call timer was running. It wouldn't let me end the attempted call, either, so I removed the battery and reinserted it.
b) Exploring the device further, I noticed that some menus didn't close when I tap the "red X" in the corner. I even tried to expand (pull out the keyboard on) the device, but it shows the "red X" of the location from portrait. as well as from the landscape! For example, it wouldn't close the "selecting which size to send photos" option screen. After waiting about a minute, I had to remove the battery to get rid of those screens, which is a major pain to keep removing the battery!
c) Later on, the last phone call that I made wouldn't hang up (end call) -- I even tapped 'End Call' about 5 times, not to mention pressed the red phone icon on the main navigation keys about 3 times. I haven't used the device since, except to place my old Samsung Sync's memory card with pictures, songs, and videos inside it.
The device seems very slow to close/end programs, and I've just received it yesterday! [I have not hacked, tweaked, or done anything else to it, either; I've only set the time, date, and owner's info.] Is this normal for the 8525? Would installing the WM5 tweaks [HTweakC 2.1b] -- or updating to WM6 -- increase the device's response time and overall performance? Or do I have a still faulty, reconditioned 8525?
Sorry for the long questions, I just wanted to give background into the device. Thanks in advance for all help in this matter!
You seem to be way behind as you use WM5. First thing you do after reading this: UPGRADE TO WM6.1
Most tweaks of WM5 will ofcourse work on WM6. WM6 is faster and much much better.
Do you know about soft-reset? No need to take out the battery! Just soft-reset.
And most of your problems of hang-ing can be solved by newer version of Windows Mobile! WM6.1
In case if your new to upgrading, you may read my small guide. If your completely new to Pocket PC, this might help you too. Also, consider using a free taskmanager such as wkTaskMan to close applications completely.
Regards,
Carty..
Carty, thanks for the quick reply!
As a brief background, for about the past 6 months, I was infatuated with the HTC Tilt [8925], because of the built-in GPS, Wi-Fi, 3-MP camera, & media player. Later, from reading other opinions on the 8525 on this board and discovering that it was compatible with GPS services, I decided to "sacrifice" the 3-MP camera, as the 8525 was about $100 cheaper on eBay.
I am pretty new to the Pocket PC, as my cellular device; I have used computers since 1996, though. That being said, it's not even been 24 hours since I've tinkered with the 8525 (as the eBay one never worked at all). I take it that the 8525 is an older device, as I've seen posts dating back to 2006. I just bought one on eBay 2 weeks ago, and had it replaced at an AT&T repair/replace shop yesterday.
I see the reset button on the bottom of the device; I just didn't know when to use it. I presumed it could only be used if the device wouldn't turn on at all. [As you can tell, I'm overly cautious with my new cellular equipment.] Also, I read about the "hard reset" -- holding down the 2 option buttons on the front and then the reset on the bottom of the device; however, I didn't know when to use the hard reset, either.
I will read your tutorials, then will install WM6 ASAP. Then, I will return with my findings. Wish me luck!!
Now I'm having issues with the update of WM6! The device stalls at 11%, then the software returns with the following:
"ERROR [262]: UPDATE ERROR
The ROM Update Utility has encountered communication errors during the update process. The program will guide you step-by-step to recover from the errors so you can continue with the update."
I tried the [Recovery] button 2 more times, following the screens to the letter, but with the same result . . . the software stalls at 11%.
Any ideas? This is very frustrating!!
Man, I finally got it to install WM6! I had to literally remove every single program that was running under my "name" with the XP-MC OS. I even had to "Ctrl+Alt+Delete" the Explorer program and then "open" it (via Task Manager) again! [I didn't restart Windows, though.]
So far, it's back to the align screen, so I'll hope all goes well from there! Be back with more later!
I've made one phone call so far, and it actually did the end call promptly! Thank goodness for small favors! I thought having to do the "flash" about 6 times would have fried the device!
Now that I have the WM6, how do I install the tweaks? Do I copy them to a memory card, to the cell ROM, or something else? I already downloaded "HTweakC 2.1b" but haven't done anything with it yet. What would be my next step to correctly hack the WM6 8525 that I have now? I am a novice at hacking, so talk in layman's terms and please bear with me!

MDA Compact turn off after boot

Hi there.
First I must apologize for my bad english.
But this isn't my only problem. Beside new Samsung i600 I have my very-old-but-still-good MDA Compact, also known as HTC Magician. I'm using it as GPS navigation with external Bluetooth GPS reciever and everything was fine until I've tried install new iGo 8, so called NavN'Go software. Installation ended without problems and app was working. For a while. After something about 5 sec of navigation my Magician turned off. Not restart, totally off. OK, I've tried to turn it on. Everything what I'm getting is bootloader and - sometimes - 1sec of homescreen. After that, Magician fall to sleep.
Of course I've tried reflashing ROM, without success. Same problem with same 1sec of "Welcome in Windows Mobile 2003 SE" or what is first screen after reflashing.
I'm asking for help or advice, never happend to my Magician before. So I've search in this forum but nothing equal to my problem.
And little switch under battery cover isn't solution, soldering machine more than 2 years ago has done this HTC joke for me.
Lot of thanks for any ideas, I never leave my Magician, we are in love forever but working one is better than dead one, isn't?
