Working Software on Universal:

I actually got my Universal yet (thanks to o2's delayed release) but I thought it might be useful to have a thread that is *only* a list of what software is working, so that other members of the forum can benefit from your experimentation.
Thanks in advance for everyone who contributes! So all you guys lucky enough to have a Universal, please list the software inc. version that you have fully operational:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=28127
Ooops... I did try searching... clearly I'm not up to the job!
Thanks for the link...
And Mods feel free to delete this thread since it's pretty much redundant!

New Advantage website

http://x7501.com -- not many users yet. Also includes the x7500. This might be a harbinger of a growing community, now that this is officially out in the US.
I am on, nice forum, hope it grows!
How many community sites do we need?

Actually, I rather agree with this - I would rather check just one site.....

Maybe we need a place where someone can ask a question without worrying about being called an idiot. Good information on this forum, but not very inviting. If the x7501 blows up someday, I can't see this forum helping all the people who will have the same questions we had a couple months back. -- "Search, moron!" is not so helpful. The Wizard XDA forum was a nice place to visit, but the Athena forum not so much.
But answering the same questions is even more annoying if you have to do that on many boards. If we limits the number of sites, we limit the number of "stupid question".
And you can't get people to behave even if you use more sites. I agree that "search, stupid" is not a good answer at all.

If people are told to search, it is so as to not waste everyone else's time when the exact same question has been answered before and there is a very powerful search engine (whether the vbulletin engine or Google) and where there is a growing wiki and where there is a sticky on each thread which asks you to do so. Is that unreasonable?

I wonder about that myself. But I guess that site would be for the regular users that want to ask the same questions over and over. The site does look interesting, but I would not want to deal with the same questions over and over. I guess we will see how it turns out.

As I have said before:
* Some threads have many pages, and it can be challenging to find the answer you need.
* Have you looked at the Wiki lately? If this were actually "growing", I would find your answer more compelling.
That being said, some people are just lazy. Granted. But if can be challenging to find the information you need.

I have no comment on the new site. It may be a good thing, time will tell.
* "Some threads have many pages..."...this will happen to your forum as time goes on, it's a forum.
* Good point on the Wiki. I think it stalled because there wasn't progress or development going on with the device. Now that we have devices in the hands of the developers the Wiki should come to life. Why not post this significant concern as a topic? Mackaby posted his concern about stalls in development for the Athena. He started a movement and reinforced the foundation in place thus making it stronger for the community, sparking more interest and accomplishing a goal that only a few believed in. The Wiki does need work, let's start a movement and get it fixed. As a group we accomplished the feat of getting TWO very expensive devices for developers to spark development. Getting the Wiki going is free and I'm sure we can get the ball rolling on this once we bring attention to it. I'm glad you mentioned this bro!
* Maybe your site will be a good entry point for newbies. When they graduate they come to xda-developers.com and play with the big boys.

Just to clarify, I have no affiliation whatsoever with the new site, other than a registered user.
Agree, work on Wiki would be helpful. I'll try to help. But in my experience, they do tend to languish...

Ah, I thought it was your site. LOL, sorry.
I like the way the colors are easy on the eyes and how the threads are seperated with dividers. Made my eyes feel better
Let's get all the senior people involved and developers and get the Wiki updated. Right now my time is VERY limited because I'm slammed at work but if we work in shifts, i'm sure we can pull it off. Let's get Midget involved and others. The Wiki is where we should be referring all newbies to if it were updated. It should be the repository of knowledge which excludes all the BS in the looooooooooooong threads you mentioned. If we update the Wiki and do our job as a community, maybe it'll cut down on the crap being posted. Furthermore, we can reply with please read the Wiki first (which should be easy), second search and third come back and we'll be glad to help you out, that's what this forum is all about.

Nice approach. This is reasonable.
competition should be always welcomed.

other android resources/forums

So, with my WinMo phone, I used ppcgeeks and here, and was able to find ROMs, mods, programs, etc of all varieties. However, the N1 is my first foray into Android. I was wondering what other people thought were excellent Android resources, beyond xda-dev.
I will try and watch this thread, and will edit this first post to reflect what others have suggested, so other readers will not have to read the entire thread to find the same thing I am looking for.

[Q] New Guide Suggestion / Request

Hi -
I'm new to all of this ... reading FAR more than posting and trying to learn enough to ask intelligent questions.
I've found the existing guides very helpful, but there's one that I haven't found [yet] ... if it already exists, please accept my apology in advance for missing it ... if it doesn't exist, I think it would be a great addition to this forum: a glossary of 'cooking' & related terms and abbreviations.
Thanks again for all of the info,
-dmm
Here are a couple sites to check out:
Xdasite: this has a lot of basic rom cooking info; it's old, but has definitions if you look around.
PPCKitchen: Look up RStoyguy's tutorials; again, they're a little dated, but are very good and explain all of the basics.
Thank you!
I'll start with these ... additional info always welcome ...
-dmm
You could also have a quick read around the xda wiki, specifically in the Acronyms: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Acronyms, Glossary: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Glossary, and FAQ section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=FAQ.
I'm not sure how useful you'll find it, but there is some good info there.
Thanks!
More good material ...

Not a bad idea.
I just contributed by posting the list of all forums that have a ThinkPad section. Hopefully it catches on.
