xBackup takes longer on mine!!! :( - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

We have two O2 Minis, one of them is my GF's.
I have noticed that xBackup takes about three times as long to complete on my Mini comparing to my GF's Mini  (hers take approx 10mins, mine takes like 30Mins!)
we both have similar amount of data to backup (approx 14MB)
The only difference in the two machines is that I have kingston SD256, my GF has Choice SD256 (Choice can't be better than kingston!!)
All firmware are the same (JAM 1.06)
Is this a hardware problem? Can anyone point out what I might need to check?
Thanks a lot guys

I have used Pocket Mechanic to benchmark the two SD Cards, to my surprise I have found out why my xBackup takes longer than my GF's
Here are the results (All cards are 256MB)
Kingston READ - 0.93MB/s
ChoiceOnly READ - 0.99MB/s
Kingston WRITE - 0.01MB/s (OMG this is so crap!)
ChoiceOnly WRITE - 0.18MB/s
I am now swapping the cards hehe  kidding...
I'm going to try my Lexar SD now hopefully my Mini can be more productive... Kingston is crap!? can anyone confirm?
Done -
Lexar READ - 0.91MB/s
Lexar WRITE - 0.08MB/s
Panasonic READ 1.01MB/s
Panasonic WRITE 0.01MB/s

quite a surprise there!

What speed SD for the Universal?

I havent looked too deeply into this, preferring to ask like .. So please don't eat me.
Its late and all ..
I'm wondering what speed the SD card reader in the Universal is?
Is it worth spending a little extra on some 60x Corsair SD cards or should I just get the bargain bin stuff since the Universal maybe doesnt have a particularly quick card reader?
Any advice welcome. I plan to use this is a system disk with seperate 512 card for my MP3's and pod casts/documents. THAT will be cheap stuff.
But for the main I need a 1gb system disk for storing apps and system stuff.
Compared to a dedicated USB card reader for the PC, the Universal is extremely slow - I have tested this with my 150X 2GB SD card. So unless you plan on using it with a PC card reader, it doesn't really matter
Accessing the SD card through activesync was at least 10 times slower than the card reader...
I did a small test with Pocket Mechanic.
1. My "normal" 2 GB sandisk gives 0.84MB/sec
2. My super duper Extreme III Sandisk 1 GB gives me a whopping 0.88MB sec.
Nr . 2 card, in my portable, writes files much, much faster than nr.1.
You can see however that in my Jasjar the difference is nearly zero.
I would say: go for the cheapest, but I am not a great technician.
Huib
Thanks guys ..
Very informative and will help me get the right card. ie. the cheapest!

Hi
I have not noticed any difference between a basic Sandisk card and a so called 66x KingMax card when used in the exec.
I do notice a difference between these two cards when using them with my digicam - the multishot mode (2 frames/sec) actually works cause the camera is able to write to the card quickly enough. With the slow card, cam kept pausing to write its cache onto the card.
I am not sure that pocket mechanic tells the truth! Likewise, timing a copy from the internal flash to an SD card is not gonna give accurate results (speed of internal flash may be bottleneck). On Wm2003 devices this was possible cause RAM is loads faster than flash still.
You cant test the speed of the SD reader in the exec over activesync tho!! Its a USB 1.1 device (max 11Mbit) and on top of that activesync treats it as a 10Mbit network card. Max you'll see after overheads is thus around 1MByte/sec

ok i m having problem to decide as well...
anyone has a more concrete data about this ?

getting 2gb sd card.. either transcend or pretec...
by the way exec sd slot is 1.01 or 1.1 specification?
hope someone has a benchmark to share.. thanks
1gb Scandisk does the job for me.
Watched a movie on it the other night, perfect. Plenty fast enough.
Its HTC so you can be assured it will be genius design with cheap crap chipset.
Bit like an Italian sportscar.
get one of those sd-usb card combo's....if u can find one going at a decent price.
saves the hassle of card readers. the LAST thing anyone needs is yet another wire lol

SD Cards??? Which one should I choose?

I just returned my 4GB Transcend SD Card. Why? First, it does not fit well on my Exec, unlike the San Disk SD Cards (dark blue color), the Transcend 4GB seem to get stuck a bit. So I definitely does not recommend the Transcend ones. This is based on my personal experience, may be someone can contest or confirm this for me would be nice. Second, my Exec refuses to store the pictures I have taken on the Transcend 4GB card. Third, my computer refuses to read nor reformat the Transcend 4GB SD card. Thus making it usesless even to my computer. AHHHHH! Now I have to start from scratch and install everything as soon as I get a new card.
Can anyone recommend which should I buy for my Exec? I saw a 2GB San Disk SD Card II Ultra (black color) and a 2GB San Disk SD Card (dark blue color). Which of one of these two should I choose? I know that the Ultra is a bit faster than the regular San Disk (dark blue), but is it compatible? I was also hoping that San Disk has a 4GB card, but I have not seen one, even on the net.
@cktlcmd
I am as fustrated as you. I have a 2GB card from a UK supplier call My Memory and it worked really well in my Plam but on my Exec I have all sorts of problems with MS Reader and eBooks. I know the SD card is to blame because if I store my eBooks in main memory I don't have problems with MS Reader.
Someone with more technical knowledge - I thought all SD cards were supposed to be the same? What makes them different (besides speed of read/write)?

I just performed a hard reset and been using my Exec as it came from the box running Corporate version (0506) with nothing installed. I am as frustrated as you are. The transcend card 4GB was allowing me to store and run applications on it, but when I tried taking pictures and wanted to store it on the card, it refuses to do so. Luckily I tried it before even going pass the 30 day limit for returns. I would have kept it, but my computer can't read it as well.
I've got a Transcend 4GB card. It works perfectly and I have not experienced the problems you have stated.
Maybe you had a faulty one ?

Does it fit nicely? The one I returned seemed to be a bit tight. It takes about a second after pressing on it to be automatically ejected, unlike the San Disk ones. On my computer, I have to pull it out manually after pressing on it.
Have you taken pictures using the built-in camera? Does it allow you to store it on the card?
Yes, it fits perfectly no trouble at all.
I have set my XDA EXEC to store pictures and videos on the SD card. It does it without problem !
I have A-Data 4gb 150x and it works fine in M5000 apart from camera will not save direct on to it.
Guys - how fast are these cards in reality?
Can you run Pocket Mechanic and choose the Card benchmark option and run a read test for me?

I am using the 2GB Sandisk Ultra II with the MDA Pro (alias Exec). No issue, except the fact that my first one got corrupted. A faulty piece, not because of the MDA Pro. I got it replaced.

Glad to hear the 2GB San Disk Ultra II works.
I just bought the BLACK San Disk Ultra 2GB SD Card and IT WORKS GREAT! The camera application now lets me store the pictures on the card, unlike the 4GB Transcend that I returned.
i do not think that having Ultra or what will help within the Universal: i guess it does not have such a fast reader anyways. though it will be great if someone else can also confirm this. On the contrary, you DO want to be able to copy files (whether mp3 or movie) fast to it, so ultra *will help to have one
Pocket Mechanic, with 64variable block size, random access, says (for Kingston 512MB Elite - same as ultra)
0.71mb/s read
0.36mb/s write
note that Elite/Ultra probably has 7mb/s write (normal ones have ~1.4mb/s) and ~8mb/s read when connected to your PC's readers.

4GB SD cards again... but Samsung?

Hi all,
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI...80014389657&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWN:IT&rd=1
Some eBay store is selling 4GB OEM Samsungs (or so he claims?) for a pretty good price. Please don't scream 'SCAM!' yet until I confirm that I haven't recieved a card from him .
But the real question here is, will this work on a Magician? There are plenty of threads about Adata and Transcend but none for Samsung (yes I realise samsungs are rebranded at retails, but I doubt Adata and Transcend rebrand Samsungs?)! Note the description says 'Support SD 1.1', so hopefully that means a yes?
Thanks!
EDIT: The listing above ended a while back. Theres a newer bunch here: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/150X-4GB-OEM...hZ018QQcategoryZ93930QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem
got one in my charmer but yeah they work on magicians too. tested on an imate jam using the latest 1.12 rom.
Thanks for the info, but my one doesn't seem to work in my Magician... heck it looks suspiciously fake, but I've tested it with a 3.6GB batch of files and it holds brilliantly! It works on my older Dell Axim x30, which really doesn't say anything good about the Magician's SD tech...
Well its a bit last ditch, but anyone got any ideas?
Thanks!
EDIT: dave, I found a similar post of yours on Modaco ... well yea since you seem to have bought the exact same item, I was wondering if you could verify some things for me:
- That I-mate JAM it works in. Do you know its firmware details? I tried flashing my O2 XDA II Mini to WWE_11200_128_11210_ship I-Mate but no difference, it still asks me to format the card upon insertion, and fails to format it anyway  .
- Also did your SD card come with a big, ugly red sticker instead of the nice one in the pic?
Thanks!

dont know the firmware as i dont have the phone to hand but its got the lastest rom from www.clubimate.com, as i remember i used the one with the lastest date which is either the file youve mentioned or the UK one with the same date.
my card had a green sticker on it, one which looks like its been printed on an inkjet printer and then torn rather than cut to fit the card!
Would it work with the Blueangel?????
Thanks.
Yea I've tried the latest i-mate international ROM with no success, but I'll get the UK one and try that once my download metering goes into off-peak . I hope that it is a ROM problem and not a hardware one, so then I would have at least an inkling of a chance in getting the SD to work on my XDA Mini!
As for the BlueAngel, I can only say that it won't work on a Wallaby (O2 XDA), but then again thats an era behind the BlueAngel... don't buy it until you're certain, because you won't have much fun trying to get a return from a US seller. What I can say is that its not a fake (tested it by dumping >3GB of files on it), but it does come with an ugly sticker... maybe if you ask nicely the dude will give you a choice of colour.
Blargh bloody card! Why can't you just WORK!
XDA mini vs. 4gig SDCard.. Help
Hi... pls help anyone.. bought a 4gig SDCard.. first, my XDA Mini wanted me to format it being unaccessible.. then it got converted to only 2.1gig.. its working though (but at that reduced capacity!). I had it replaced (thank goodness my seller was kind).. but its prompting format again due to being unaccessible.. and cant do that again..
is there any software-fix available?
pls.. urgent need help..
thanx..
Re: XDA mini vs. 4gig SDCard.. Help
Still doesn't work!!! Even on UK i-mate JAM ROM. Now I'm resorting to farfetched ideas such as filling the card up to 2GB and 3GB (still in progress) and putting autorun programs on it (doesn't work). I've tried it on FAT16, FAT32 and even NTFS with no luck, partitioned it to 2GB with no results. A few more questions, if you don't mind?
- Did your i-mate prompt you to format your card upon insertion, or did it work on the get-go?
- Was it formatted or partitioned in any particular way?

Lucky you ! Yes I had the same issue with my Dell Axim x30, what I did was that I used paritioning software to delete the entire 2GB partition, then to paritition the entire 4GB as FAT32... and it worked! So from my view, if your PDA is able to format a certain memory card, even partially, that means it can read it whole BUT it can't format it properly. Hence you format it for it .
a 4GB card would be sweet on a Magician
However, i read on several posts that they have poor compatibility with the Magician; or the Magician is picky on handling certain brands. I thinking of getting a 4GB MMC card [green Adata] on Ebay, because they seem to be more realiable on the Magician from what i have read.
The green Adata 200x MMC 4GB cards can read 30MB per second. Is that slower then the standard or ultra SD cards? Curious, because I've read that SD are suppose to be twice as fast as MMC cards.

I guess you would hafta believe the speed ratings on the cards, hence I presume a 200x MMC would beat the pants of any other flash memory card under 200x, regardless of whether it was a MMC, SD, etc.
Yea I've read of poor Magician compatibility with any cards above 1GB. But what baffles and irritates me most is that dave106 has (seemingly) exactly the same bloody card working in his mate's i-mate JAM, yet my bloody thing will prompt me to format everytime - if I don't, it doesn't read, but if I do, it formats to RAW and doesn't read :? !
hmmmm... examining the 4GB card using Paragon Partition Manager gets some interesting results! Here's the card when properly formatted:
Code:
Partition 0, hard disk 2
Volume label:
File system: FAT32
Drive letter: G:
Serial number: 00000000
Sectors / boot: 32
Sectors / cluster: 8
Size (capacity): 3.8 GB (4.120.833.024 )
Used space: 7.7 MB ( 0%)
Free space: 3.8 GB (100%)
Physical sectors:
First: 63 (Cyl 0, Hd 1, Sec 1)
Last: 8048564 (Cyl 500, Hd 254, Sec 63)
HDD info: Cyl 501, Hd 255, Sec 63
...and here's the card after a stint in Magician's 'format':
Code:
Partition 0, hard disk 2
Volume label:
File system: Unformatted
Drive letter: *:
Serial number: 00000000
Sectors / boot: 0
Sectors / cluster: 0
Size (capacity): 3.8 GB (4.120.833.024 )
Used space: 2048 GB (53363%)
Free space: 3.8 GB (100%)
Physical sectors:
First: 63 (Cyl 0, Hd 1, Sec 1)
Last: 8048564 (Cyl 500, Hd 254, Sec 63)
HDD info: Cyl 501, Hd 255, Sec 63
2048GB used??? Even if I delete the partition on my SD card so it becomes RAW, the used stays put at 0 bytes. It seems as though the Magician gets confused as hell when formatting this card... wonder why?
when i got the card, stuck it in the PC and it was already formatted. Put about 3.5gig of music on it and a few days later tried it out in my mates jam and it came up fine in the memory cpl and in file explorer.
Still no luck... after numerous reflashes and ideas, i've given up on this card. Thanks for all the help anyway dave! My uncle has a XDA Mini as well so I'll try it in his later.
howdy,
not too sure wether this revelation applies to your 4gb cards, but I found out many previously unrecognizable sd cards( upto two gigs) were readable once formatted with sktools.
- No, this is not a joke, try it and lets see whether it applies to 4 gig cards as well.
cheers
RE SKTools
Hi.. just tried SKTools.. I couldn't use its feature for SD Cards, it couldn't detect any SD CARD when i inserted my 4gig SD Card, but it could, when i inserted my 256MB...
But thanks,, i found it so useful for alot of my other pocket pc concerns..
HELP...
Thanks for the tip thormdac, but no luck with it either - doesn't detect the memory card on my XDA Mini, and even if i slot it into my Dell x30 (which can read the four gigs perfectly fine) it cannot format the card such so that it can be read by the Magician. BLAH!
Anyway the seller has offered me a refund, which is either very kind or very suspicious depending on your mindset but I think I'll take up the offer - after I try it in my uncle's XDA Mini on Saturday. Losing ten bucks kinda sucks though .
Oh and btw I also ran the card through this handy formatting tool from Panasonic/Matsushita - the guys who enforce the SD 1.1 standard. It only works for cards up to 2GB, though even when I partitioned the 4GB card to fit under the limits it spat out an error halfway.
On another note: Another SanDisk eBay scam
Sandisk Ultra II 4GB cards don't exist! I was going to report him, but the sneaky bastard avoided mentioning 'SanDisk' at all... plus the 1-day listing makes me suspect that his account might have been hacked. I just hink it's sad there's these scammers around since there are inevitably people who are going to get sucked in by this :x
OMG!
It worked in my uncle's XDA! In frustration, I carefully dissected my Magician with the help of my uncle only to find... errr, nothing. HOWEVER when I partially put it back together (the first two layers of the top-back panel were still off) and switched it on to test, the card bloody worked! Not knowing what I had did, I put it back together only to have it not work again! @#$!
HMMM... again I pulled off the top two layers of the rear and it worked. Eventually we figured out that if we tightened the screws on the rear panel too much, then the Magician would refuse to read the card properly. A bloody manafacturing defect. Peeling off that fat red sticker on the SD card also helped, and eventually the Magician was reliably reading the SD card!
This might go some length in explaining why 4GB SD cards won't work in the Magician while others will - the thickness of SDs may be putting too much pressure on the contacts in the slot, which are already under some pressure by the panel on top of the SD slot. The only difference between my uncle's and my XDA Mini were the bootloader versions - v1.00 and v1.02 respectively - which seems to indicate that my uncle's is an earlier model - perhaps they don't make them like they used to? Note that my XDA Mini reads every card fine BUT the 4GB - I still cannot come up with an explanation for that, considering that this reading problem seems to be a mechanical problem.
I don't know if I'm right at all, but perhaps if anyone is having problems reading SD cards in their Mini, you might want to try opening the cover above your battery panel (its plastic, held by hinges, you should be able to figure how to open it if you're brave enough) and adjusting the tightness of the screws holding the panel underneath (you WILL need a TORX screwdriver... bloody small one too, 'TORX 06').
Thanks for all your help too!
4gb Sd card not working in Imate Jam
Thanks for the tip "toomuchdogfur" untightening the screws on the back of my T mobile MDA has now allowed me to use my new 4gb SD card ,before it would constantly suggest to format card .
Hmmm... so its not a single case after all. I wonder if there are a large number of Magicians with this fault?
4gb sd in magician
Hi guys , Ihave been driven mad by the imate jam ( magician ) not recognising memory cards, so I contacted imate support and got this reply:
Dear Sir,
Thank you for your E-mail. Regarding your query, please note that the SD card standard is limited to 2 GB and our devices are fully compliant to the standard. Cards with the capacity greater than 2 GB are not compliant to the standard and we cannot guarantee that they will function correctly. As to transferring speed limit, we recommend not using ultra speed SD cards with the speed more than 64x as they either will not work or may pose problems later. Also we would like to inform you that some SD cards need to be formatted using any PC / Laptop (supporting SD cards) before using with our devices.
Regards,
Technical Support - i-mate™
So I finally sent my jam back for repair under warranty as the backlight kept going off too and now it seems to be ok . I did wonder about the thickness of the memory cards because some do feel like a tight fit. I have also read on various forums that the jam cannot manage larger than 2gb size memory cards and lots of owners seem to complain of the same format/ reformat problems.I am looking at getting a 4gb card but don't know which one to try. Most uk available ones are 150x speed. Any I mate jam users with good advice on this topic? :!:
Update 18/10/06
Today I received a Kingmax 4gb 40x sd card from Dabs.com £54.48 and it works in my I-mate jam straight out of the box, no formatting or anything. Finally I can hardly believe it!!!!
http://www.dabs.com/ProductList.asp...y=All&PageMode=3&NavigationKey=0&SearchType=1
ps. MMC plus cards don't work at all in my Imate jam ,although an old ancient 256mb mmc card works.Guess it really is all down to the speed. Keep it below 60x and its hunky dory!

4GB SD memory for XDA Exec (Universal)

Hello
do you guys know if a 4 GB SD Card will work with the Universal. I saw in one of the signatures that people are using 2GB SD Cards, was wondering what is the upper limit?

I will works fine but after you rich the maximum data with combination of software, you can encounter slow moving of any application hanging more often than usual and it will eat your battery 4x faster than normal consumption. :?
The speed of the card doesnt make much of a difference when using the it in the PPC. But you will notice the 150x SD card in a card reader for on the computer. Speeds of read and and write will be really fast, but it has no effect on PPC speeds, the PPC can only go so fast.
iv got a 150x transcend in mine working fine, well iv used it for about 4 months now, it does however have some slight issues with the camera...
before you can save images direct to the card you must have less than 2GB of space left on the card as the camera prog does not recognise anything more than 2gig, so if you try an take a pic with an empty 4gig card it will fail (unless you set images to save direct onto phone)
1 other problem i have encountered, i dont know whethere this was down to the camera, the phone or the card but, when i was away on holiday, i had around 2.5gb of audio and was using the camera a fair bit on my travells, then 1 day when i took a pic it overwrote (is that a word?) everything on my card!!! when i went into my storage space it said that the card still had 3gb taken up on card but when i went onto file explorer there would be nothing left showing on the card other than images i had taken since  bit of a pain in the ass but it hasnt done me any wrong since then, still filling it with lots of audio/txt/images and no more problems (touch wood)
i had this experience with a 1GB sandisk card. I think it happens when a read or write to the SD card fails or doesn't finish [not sure here], happened twice the 1st instance I was able to use the SD card again [reformatted it with a camera, then again using Resco Explorer on the PPC] the 2nd time it happened the card was dead. Right now I am using a 1GB miniSD [in the adapter of course] which I bought for my ex-PPC [a Wizard] I plan to get a 4Gb SD card as well. If the speed of the card is only really noticeable with card readers then I'm ok with that [as I transfer songs and such via my notebook's in built card reader]. Hmm time to go SD card hunting over the weekend!!! Wonder what I'll do with the miniSD though... I have a 1Gb card in my digicam as well, maybe I can pass that off to my lil sis or something...
Ive just bought "Platinum" 4GB. It cost me 82$, here in Poland.
Universal report it have just 3,56GB but it is working as expected. Ive benchhmarked it in pocket mechanic - index:122
best reg,
Piotr
I got a Transcend 4Gb 150x SD Card [Part No.: TS4GSD150]. For around 88USD. It is reported as 3.86Gb under Resco Explorer.
I bought a MobyMemory 4Gb card from, suprise suprise, www.mobymemory.co.uk. Almost certainly rebadged from somewhere else but I though it was a good price at under £50 and works fine on my XDA Exec. They also throw in a free SD reader as some readers have trouble with 4Gb SD cards. I had to reformat the SD card under Windows XP for it to be seen by both the Exec and Win XP (as shipped, only the Exec could read the card).
Have the wiki and tomeraider on there - great for being a smartarse down the pub.

I am wondering if anyone has tried the new 8GB SD card on the Universal? dose it works?
BTW,My hx4700 which is 2004's unit and it works perfectly with the 8GB CF card. so...the new HCSD card will be working too?
I am using the ADATA 4GB 150X card too,it will take at least 12seconds  to boot the phone pad once I press the CALL button in device shut down mode,is that normal?
thanks,
best.

SDHC will not work on old and current devices IIRC it needs a special SDHC capable SD slot for it to work with the newer cards. Dunno when SDHC will come to mobile devices though as I fear that the trend is that manufacturer's are moving towards transflash [aka microSD] and miniSD.
my 4GB main SD card worked so well, i bought 4 more to encode movies on

SDHC will not work on old and current devices IIRC it needs a special SDHC capable SD slot for it to work with the newer cards. Dunno when SDHC will come to mobile devices though as I fear that the trend is that manufacturer's are moving towards transflash [aka microSD] and miniSD.

The micro SD issue: Which work; and which don't!

Hi guys!
I've read several threads here regarding which cards work and don't work in our machines. One of the main threads is ridiculously long, and describes various reg hacks that do NOT solve the problem.
In my opinion, there is NOTHING worse than a PDA that needs to be rebooted every day or several times a day.
I am starting this thread just to bring the basic information into one place.
I can tell you right now:
I have two 2GB Sandisk MicroSD cards, and one 512MB card.
Not surprisingly, all three have problems in two 8525 devices, with two different WM5 ROM.
I know that the 1GB Made in Japan Kingston seems to work flawlessly.
Can anyone else please share their experiences in this thread? Let's keep it nice and clean, so that people wanting to understand what works and what doesn't.
How are the 2GB Kingston cards? Anyone have any luck?
I have used the SanDisk 2GB with no known issues.
I also have a 2g Sandisk with no issues over nearly 11 months.
I'm not sure you will prove much here as I have seen folks who swear Sandisks are bad and Kingstons (typically 2gig) are flawless. Equally I have seen exactly the reverse views reported. It may have more to do with physical connections (contacts) between device and the card.
But lets see how it pans out.

I have as well and love it. Only issue I have is getting the little sucker out! I just leave it in. The only way I have found to get it out is by opening the back, and using an eye glasses screw driver to slide it out.
sandisk 2g and 1 g here and no issues with either work perfect. um you do know if you push it in it releases the catch and it pops out like its suppose to right?

If only it was that easy. For some reason, mine doesn't do that. I push in, it doesn't pop out
Not AKU2.3?
Hands up those of you who have microSD card problems with AKU2.3 ROMs!
Using a SanDisk 1Gb here no problems. Also using WM5 Build 14955.2.3.0, which is AKU 2.3 is it not?
Mine is the HERM300 (MDA Vario 2).
help
hi I am usin 1gb kingston with hermes.and its speed is too slow like 30kpbs via wm5 storage.I think I need to format my card correctly.any help?
and can any body tell me any tweak to have programs install on folders of my own choice?
thx in advance.
it is a pleasure to write from hermes .....hehe
Kingston 2GB made in Taiwan
Often not responding after loading for a few times. Need to be inserted into the device again.
Toshiba 2GB made in Japan
No problem until now.
Wow, I've got something different!
1GB Corsair MicroSD in my Imate JasJam.
Worked flawlessly for 6 months until I became the new owner of both phone & card, it then had card detection issues for a couple of days, but came good on it's own.
Now on WM6 and still working fine. I'm wondering if larger than 2GB cards will work.
Cheers! Oggy.
I purchased a SanDisk 4gb microSDHC and it DID NOT work!!!
I am now back to using my 2gb A-data microSD (which works fine).
No problems with my A-Data MyFlash 1GB, although once or twice I did have to use a tweezers or a needle to extract it. Just FYI, I bought my card on NewEgg.com, and people there usually leave feedback on if the card worked or not on their particular mobile device.
Very interesting.
So it looks like some people have 2GB Sandisks with NO problems.
Mine pops in and out quite nicely, actually. Although on my dad's unit, you need a tweezers.
Typical......!

I have a 8525, had that issue on day 1 and it was driving me crazy. then I thought let's put a needle down there and see what happens!! the thing lost its virginity, now pops in & out just fine
BTW I have Sandisk 2GB microSD card (Made in Taiwan) which works fine, I just have to eject and reinsert it in sleep mode.. else i'll have to SR so that the device would recognize it.
micro SD not reading
My unlocked M3100 has stopped seeing the storage card - nothing wrong with the card (tested elsewhere), and it used to work (on M3100). How might I rectify this?

My SanDisk 2GB Taiwan card would disappear every other day or so. It wasn't a huge problem as I'd just have to pop it out and push it back in to get everything working again, but I needed another microSD card for another device so I bought a Kingston 2GB hoping to get a Japan card. I ended up with a 2GB Kingston Taiwan card, but it works just fine (a month now) without disappearing *knocks on wood*

I have occasional problems with a 1GB Made in Japan Kingston, so I have to disagree with your statement.
I am convinced that this problem is hardware related. Either a connector fit problem as Michael Channon believes, and/or a motherboard problem as I believe. Earlier Hermes motherboards were manufactured by Hitachi, HTC now uses a different supplier for their motherboards. Rumour has it that the Hitachi mobo's have a problem with the mSD card hardware (could be the same problem I s'pose).

Sandisk 2GB card
I also have a Sandisk 2GB.
It had trouble ejecting the first few times and I had to use tweezers or the tip of a razorblade to get it to slide out but after a very short time it started moving normally.
My 8525 does lose site of the card from time to time and I sometimes have to re-insert it several times before it is recognized but I have not had to reset the phone to get it to come back.
