Hi,
In terms of hardware what does hard reset do in imate technically? I know it will wipe up the whole RAM. But how it is doing that, is it by initializing the whole RAM (128 MB) to a certain value, or just rebuild the memory manager again without affecting the contents of each byte. Because I want to know after hard reset is it possible to read, through a program, the memory contents as they were before hard reset.
Also does the hard reset after windows ROM installation differ from a hard reset without windows installation?
The main memory in the XDA2 is not flash and as such if it stops being powered it will lose it's contents.
I think that hard reset simply causes the power to the memory to be interrupted meaning that the memory is then completely blank.

I've already CID-unlocked, SIM-unlocked my T-mobile MDA last month. I've flashed my ROM with the xelencin ROM that I found in the forums, as I thought it had most of the initial tweaks that I was looking at. Since then, I've installed a whole bunch of new programs to test out, but now it feels like my phone is bogged down.
I'd like to clean my phone of all its memory and go back to the state when I just flashed my rom with xelencin. Do I have to go and use the RUU again or can I just go to my settings -> clear storage -> 1234 and reset? Will this delete all the programs that I had installed on my storage card as well or will the files stay there?
Hard reset
Yes, a hard reset will clear everything. You do NOT need to reflash the ROM.
thanks
thanks for the heads up. i'm assuming the memory card can stay in without any problems...otherwise i can just take it out until it restarts.
i've flashed the radio rom to 2.47.11 since the ROM was made (started with 2.25.11). Is it safe to assume it'll stay with the 2.47.11 after a hard reset?
memory
I never bother taking the memory card out but then I back it up to my PC occasionally. There are certainly reports of memory card problems.
The radio rom will persist through a hard reset.
If you have created short cuts, it is a good idea to copy them to the SD card for easy reinstallation.
storage card not effected
ok, just an fyi, I did the clear reset with 1234, ok. storage card isn't effected by it...only the regular phone memory is wiped...it seems everything, including the files that I had changed in the \windows director for foreign language (asukal's wince.nls) files...
Hi everyone,
I have a major problem with my Vogue. I restarted the phone last night and after it rebooted the data on my storagecard was missing. If I check the storage card on the Vogue it still says that 4.6 gig out of 8 is used however the files can't been seen from total commander, file explorer, or windows XP. What is the problem? Is there anything to recover the lost/unseen data? Your help would be greatly aprechiated!!!

Click to collapse
I just had the same problem, switch the view to folder view, see if you can view it that way.
I've seen that happen too... and I just soft reset again. Usually works.
You could also try removing the card, soft reset, and replacing the card.
I tried the soft reset, and soft reset with out the micro sd card with no luck. I found some free data recovery software called PC Inspector File Recovery. Its scanning now and should be done in a couple hours. I'll let you know if there is any luck.
infected!!
your card is infected by virus "system.exe", memory status is shown but no data.
you r going the right way, recover data using recovery software and after that u will need to format u r card with a low level formatting tool...
......this is all my experience....am not an expert.......
Do you think I should do a hard reset to my Touch or am I ok with just recoevering the data and formating the SD card?
yes, you should hard reset ur device....
Bummer.. I wish I logged all the system reg edits I did... Well I guess in the end a hardreset will probaly speed up the device anyway.
Hi,
I wonder if anyone can tell me how to format the internal storage on my XDA II (2003). I know the theory but for some reason I cannot access the boot options screen. I can soft reset, hard reset and get the boot loader screen. The camera and the record buttons work when the OS is running but when I press reset, camera and record all I get is a soft reset.
I have simple requirements of the XDA: phone, calendar, tasks and pdf reader. The tasks have ceased to function with the "no program memory available" error and I can't install the newest Adobe reader as it is convinced that Adobe reader 1 is still installed (it isn't)
I was hoping that a reformat and a hard reset would cure the problems but without access to the boot options screen I am at a loss as to how to perform the format.
I have tried leaving the battery out for 24 hours but that made no difference. So, any suggestions would be gratefully received.
Thanks
If you have Wm2003 Camera+Record+Reset should hard reset and format without menu
If you have wm 5 or 6, it should get you into menu, you should select No yes yes, and then press pad.
Did you try to hold Camera+Record and then reset? And remember that you should hold all 3 keys pressed for a few seconds, until menu appear.
hello,
just a little question. I have a HD2 with all datas (photos+contacts) into internal memory (not sdcard). The HD2 doen't start (It shutdown after one vibration and the white first screen with the HTC logo). I try a soft reset without success.
Have you an idea to retrieve the internal data before trying a hard reset ?
thanks for your help
