Help! Can't email!! - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Hello
Just got my new xda11
I've setup my device to use pop3 email on my freeserve account as I did on my previous xda1 - however whenever I try to send/recieve it just says "connecting", regardless of whether gprs is connected. If I try to disconnect I get the message disconnecting and sticks
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Martin

Hi, I'm in Australia, so I don't know how much help I can be, but I'll try.
Does your phone connect to GPRS ok.. loading and refreshing pages?
If so, When I first set up my Pop 3 account, it did take quite a while. It went through the connecting message, yes I was connected at the time, and then "logging on" for a while. But, then, in a puff of steam, my emails downloaded. In other words, what happens if you just wait and see if you system is as slow as mine. :?

I can connect gprs and use the internet fine
I'll do as you said and just leave it connecting for a while and see what happens :x
never know mine just might be mega slow

Done it!!!
after 5 attempts just leaving inbox saying "connecting", it finally logged on.
Now it does it first time
Thanks for your help mate
Martin

:Thanks Martin, glad that it worked out. Take it easy from Sydney Australia, wet, warm and absolutley glorious!!!

Twice now girls have mms messaged my xda2 late a night and i've woken up the next day only to find that my gprs stayed connected
gprs stay connected if someone sends me an MMS, is this normal??? i want to stop it doing it incase i get a big bill someday peeps. help :?:
not sure about your cellphone company but here i dont pay for minut
but pr MB and being connected dont use MB's
otherwise you could install
www.GB-SOFT.cz/xdaII
it let you mess along with the grps settings like turning off if device not used after X minuts
Mine dose the same. even when i am roaming, but it dose not show on the bill tho....

Receiving MMS is done with a GPRS connections, it is usually another APN than the one you use for regular internet access. Because not you but the provider opens the connections, you are not billed for them.
Kids used this "feature" for free surfing... In Germany this hole was closed.
Interesting. Do you have a valid IP and can you make IP connections to Internet IPs when being online with that MMS-APN?

GPRS Connecting when I sync my Imate Jam! Help

Hi,
I was when I got my Cingular bill 1 month after I got my Imate Jam... I had racked up $900 in internet usage charges! So I called and with the rep and all they could do was give me a $175 credit... So I tried to see what was causing it... and I noticed that whenever I would sync my Jam via USB or Bluetooth, GPRS would connect, and I would actuallys see download rates come on for a total of 500kb at a time. I have looked all over other boards , and it looks like other people have had this problem, not just with the Jam, but with activesync in general--but no one's really come up with the solution.
So to you Imate users, do you notice this too? How do I turn it off, I seem to have everything turned off and manual in my email settings, so I know it's not just the settings. The only temp solution I can think of is to unplug the USB cable from my PC whenever I dock to charge it
Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.
Appreantly, you may have triggered your JAM to sync to your device over the internet than through the cable. Try to check this:
Hit Start and go to Active Sync. Make sure you are NOT connected to ActiveSync.
Hit Tools and go to Options.
Uncheck the two check boxes indicating syncing with the device. After this hit Options.
Please make sure that When Cradle, Enable PC Sync through USB and not through modem or any other connection. Hit OK.
Hope this helps.
thanks
thanks a million! literally You are saving me lots of money... your suggestion worked... thank you so much.
Good you had the patience to read through nad never lost hope. YOur post was dated way back and since noone answered, I just tried...
Now where are my millions...
Well I just got ripped off $1500 by a scumbag on Ebay...so maybe when I get it back....

GPRS wont disconnect after MMS

This is becoming a problem and im dreading my phone bill when it comes through. If someone sends me an MMS the phone auto connects to GPRS and downloads the image. Not a problem there, the problem is that after downloading the image the connection doesnt disconnect. Now unless i remember to disconnect it, it stays connected running up my bill. The same goes for when i send an image it connects but wont disconnect after it sents. I would have thought this would have been a standard option as it is with normal phones. I cant always remember to manually disconnect the GPRS everytime. Anyone got any info on this please?
Either hold down the "End call" button for a few seconds to disconnect or tap the icon and choose disconnect. Shouldn't worry though as the beauty of GPRS is you only pay for data transfer, not to be connected.
You can leave it connected 24x7 with no charge, you only pay when you transfer data. I used to be abit unsure about this when I got my first GPRS phone about 5 years ago - rang O2 and they confirmed it.

Good to know - thanks for the info
hey, thanks for that info, i managed to talk to O2 and they confirmed that you dont get charged for having GPRS on unless you use it. Thanks again.
You can also try this great freeware utility that lets you set automatic disconnect timeouts for GPRS:
GB-SOFT GPRS & Audio Tweak

Turning GPRS off after sync with Exchange server

Hi There,
I just upgraded my O2 mini s to ROM 2.8.7.1.wwe and signed up for the direct push email service from 4smartphone.net. It works great but the GPRS doesn't disconnect after the sync. Could someone let me know how I can do this.
TIA
Tony.
AFAIK it is not supposed to disconnect. It need to be connected permanantly for push to work. It will only disconnect if you use scheduling and during those times it is not supposed to send/receive mail it will be disconnected.
Hi dalewinterstein,
Thanks for your reply. I think my unit still stays connected even after scheduled connection (I set for every 2 hrs and noticed it was still connected after downloading mail). I am away travelling now but will test more when I get home.
Thanks.
Tony.

Firmware upgrade - then no email

Hi all, I have searched but can't find an answer..
I keep getting - "can not connect with current connection settings" when trying to do a send and receive through email. I have yahoo and googlemail accounts.
I upgraded to Polaris 0.67_Opera_bepe and had the issue initially. I thought I may as well try Polaris.ASerg.3.WM61.WWE to see if that would remedy it.. but still i have the same issue.
My connection settings should be correct as I have used UK_Setup_ZD and that has always worked.
Worth me saying I have tried soft reset twice, opera / IE both connect and my MMS is fine too.
Could someone please help? It'll have to basics as I'm still new to this.
FYI : Polaris.ASerg.3.WM61.WWE is very very fast!! :O)
thanks for reading.
UPDATE: Not sure if this helps..
I have just turned on wi-fi and connected - This allowed me to update my inbox.
Turned Wi Fi off.
Tried again:
Data connection IS TURNED ON. Still have the same error message. "can not connect with current connection settings" and "Error Syncronizing"
@#!HELP!`~
Now this is weird! I got very frustrated as this did not make sense so loaded the HTC std Polaris rom.
Set the t-mobile settings as normal and proceeded to try and connect to email again... Nothing! same error again.
Went to watch TV for a couple of hours and came back to phone.
Closed all apps
Tried again and hey presto ! connection and downloaded email!
strange but true!
I missed something as this was not magic. I guess it was a strange request as nobody seemed to answer my request. If your having the same issue and reading this post good luck!
solved
Settings/ connections [tab]/ connections/ manage existing connections/
select connection
edit
then just keep pressing next and then finish.
Although the connection settings were there they were obviously not initiating when needed. This process seemed to confirm the settings and worked.
I may be talking absolute pony but it may help someone else like me.
Thanks all.
