In relation to another thread I've tried using the sprite software's backup package.
I've tried doing a backup to my SD card but every time it reports the backup is corrupt. In fact I tried backing up to the "My Documents" folder on the SD card and it wiped out all files in that folder!
The XBackup app that came with my O2 XDA-II works fine with the SD card so whats the problem with sprite software's product?
sprite
Make sure you are using latest version, read faq in support.
I use it to sprite backup premium to my pc, and script to copy to sd card. It seems to restore fine from SD card. I am using a dedicated SD card for the backups, and not sharing it with my normal app(navigator) (mp3) ones.
I had the same problem: Copy the contents of your SD to a HD, reformat the SD and put your data back. This should do the trick.
SpriteBackup sometimes has issues with SD format and then gives this problem.
Yes I reformatted the sd card and that did the trick. Thinking about it my sd card has been around a bit.... it started off in a moto A920 and I've never formatted it till today.
Sprite likes to turn off running processes as its default. Some of these processes cannot be shut down.
You can try manually turning off other software and shutting down the phone side before running Sprite.
Or you can try running Sprite with the option to turn off running processes turned off.
The first option worked for me.
We've just found the processes that we shouldn't be terminating, oddly enough its the new flashman program's, terminating both NFlashman and tFlashman, then dropping back to the today screen causes a hard reset of the device.
Pocket Backup will be fixed to not cause this to occur in the next release, along with the SMS bug fix.
If anyone has any other problems with Pocket Backup and XDAII, then feel free to email me.
..Chuck..
be carefull, dont restore sms/mail from sprite backup...it will kill your sms receiver, your xda will not able to receive sms anymore...required hard reset...

Just spent a whole bloody day on the phone to Orange UK, who would give only limited support for my "O2" device - as I wasn't getting any of the texts I sent yesterday.
Then I found other phones worked ok with my SIM.
I did a Hard Reset, and the SMS facility worked fine.
Soon as I did a Sprite Backup REstore, the SMS not arriving problem came back.
So I Hard Reset again, did a VERY selective restore of Sprite Backup, and VOILA - SMS working still.
Never ever had this kind of thing happen before though, and I must say, it had Orange absolutely bewildered wondering why my texts weren't getting through.
But just to add to that thought, in seems more like the texts DO arrive at the device, but the device just kills them invisibly without you ever knowing
Wish I had of seen your post yesterday though, saved me working all this out for myself *lol*

There is still this problem with Sprite? Even in the current 3.0 version?
Thanks,
Chris
No, it works fine with 3.0. I've done two restores to my XDA II, no problem.

I have been using my Jam for about 6 months, at first times everything was fine but for 3 motnhs i can send SMS but can not get ! I tried a lot of possibilities ( checking the SIM card on other phones, using another SIM card on JAM, reinstalling the GPRS & WAP settings, checking the SMS center # etc. ) and the device is fully funcitonal but so far nothing solved my problem. I love my phone and this little problem makes me very upset. I hope its not a hardware problem, it seems to me like an interfered and disfunctional network settings made accidentally by me, but im not sure. Please someone have an idea to end this problem help me !
Corrupt inbox?
It could as well be your settings I guess but if nothing else helps maybe you have the more extreme problem I had...
I got a corrupt inbox after doing a restore using an older version of pocket backup (turned out to be a well known problem...). The OS just throwed away incoming SMS's due to the corruption. Had to hard reset to get it working again.
Try to send a sms from a friend's phone with delivery notification set, and see if the sms is recieved or not. If it is noted as recieved by your network but not displayed in your inbox you could have the same problem as I did. /Patrick
Thats right. Sprite Backup, restoring causes this error but they fixed it in their later versions. If your problem arised after a restore, head into sprite' website and they have a small tool to flush inbox, distributed to those who got this sms error.
If not, a hard-reset could solve the problem!
I did hard format Carty, even 3 times since the problems begins, i hard formatted the device and reinstall the ROM, it didnt change the situation.
Hi!
I've got a problem with QuickGPS. I downloaded the satellite data twice and then it stopped working, just like that. It initiates a connection, then I wait about 2-3 minutes and QuickGPS says "Connection failed. Please try again later". Internet is working normally, so obviously it's a problem of QuickGPS and not my connection. I read about this problem on other HTC manufactured phones, but without progress, the registry change didn't help.
If you've managed to download QuickGPS data successfully before then it might simply be a glitch on their servers - particularly as you say your internet is otherwise working normally.
Give it a while and try again.
I gave it about two weeks, you think it's not enough? There must be some other problem. Nobody can help me?
Why dont try a hard reset ?
... dont 4get 2 backup
Well, I don't think I have other options... So on the topic of a backup I would like to know, what program do you recommend and what exactly will the program backup? Settings, programs from internal memory with registers? And what about the programs on the memory card and their registers? Thank you for your help.
Sorry - I didn't realise you had waited that long already.
I use Sprite Backup and don't have any significant problems with it. A restore after hard reset is comprehensive and seems to bring the phone back to exactly as it was before - all PIM data, registration codes for apps, registry tweaks, all software and saved settings, the lot...
Mind you, the initiation of the backup file takes ages (several minutes to load) during which time you get nothing but the spinning MS waiting icon. This can be a nervous experience, but it gets there in the end.
OK, thanks, I'll give it a shot (soon ).
I have to say tonight was an evening full of surprises with my HD...
Came home, plugged it into USB, the Sync went normally, I uploaded a jpg file to the main memory and assigned it to a contact. Didn't really do anything else with the phone. It was laying next to the keyboard when I noticed it simply rebooted, without absolutely any action on my behalf.
Then it got to "smart mobility" screen and stood there for like 5 minutes. I figured out something wasn't right, so I unplugged it, tried to push some keys - nothing happened. Removed the battery and turned it on again.
The moment I saw Windows screen in green (had the black version ) I had a bad feeling. And I was right. I got into Windows setup, watched the system install itself, went through the configuration screens and ended up in a freshly hard-resetted Touch Flo 3D.
Everything reverted to factory state. The contacts were gone, the programs, the messages... Absolutely everything. Except for the SD card. Nothing was changed there, all the old data remained.
I'm very pissed off at the moment, because I finally got everything setup the way I wanted it
Has anyone had similar experiences and do you know what could have caused this??
The golden question:
Did/do you backup?
If yes, then good.
If not, learn to backup.
I/we backup on a daily basis. SPB Backup runs at 3am everyday and backsup everything on the main storage to the storage card and keeps the past 5 days worth of backups. This way, if a backup, say 2 days ago was corrupt, I can still restore to the 3rd day before. Select the "self-restoring" option as you can restore on the fly. While on vacation in Salzburg my phone suddenly became slow. So I hard reset (while in a cafe in the old town) and then restored to the day before (which was about 6 hours ago because it was 9am at the time). Problem SOLVED - on the fly.
Why it self hard resetted? Maybe some smart member will be able to figure out why, Im guessing "**** happens" happened.
Didn't have backup :/
I was actually just yesterday going to check some backup software, but I guess I remembered it a day too late
Still, no big damage. Contacts were backed up via Active Sync, as well as My documents, I just lost the stored SMS and MMS stuff (actually, it's a shame for MMS, had some nice nude photos of a very busty girl there
My biggest concern is why did it happen. I just can't seem to figure it out. I didn't do anything with the phone at all, didn't install any new software, didn't change any system settings... I'm just confused.
For quickies purposes, use PPC PIM Backup by DotFred. Its free but worth hundreds asit backs up your PIM info (contacts, sms, mail, tasks, appointments, speed dials).
I received a replacement phone today and was just wondering if it's safe to restore the backups I'd made on my old phone onto this new one. The serial number is different, of course...but I'm not sure what else might be in the backups that could screw things up.
Couldn't you back up the replacement phone restore with old back up see if it works then restore again? Just asking haven't rooted my phone yet so I'm guestimating but my guess is if you had a copy of the replacement phone root you should be good to tinker but I'll defer to the more experience hero tinkerers.
Good luck!
You're right. I assume the risk of bricking the phone is minimal since it seems we can always do a reset to stock using the RUU. I just thought I'd be a little cautious (for a change!). It's not like I don't have a few hours to spare...I should be working, after all.
Well, I was able to run Nandroid Restore without any obvious problems. The phone's serial number wasn't changed and all apps seem to be working fine. When I was researching this, I came across some old posts where people had problems with the accelerometer, but that's working fine too.
If anyone with more experience about this stuff knows of anything to look out for, please let us know... otherwise, it seems safe.
Not sure if this issue is related to the restore, but I figure I'll mention it.
I noticed today that Gmail wasn't syncing properly. Specifically, it was hanging when I'd try to send a message. I had two in the Outbox. The red "sending..." message just stayed there for a couple hours. So, I cleared the cache via Settings --> Applications --> Manage Applications --> Gmail Storage. Afterwards, though I lost the messages in the Outbox, sending worked again.
Note that there's also a program listed in the Manage Applications list called Gmail. That's not the one you want though.
I had to do this several times because of my on going issues...another post..anyway, I found that if I trick Nandroid into thinking that it is the most current backup, that it will restore just fine. I have had no issues.
Have been using MyPhone for a while now and find that it is a real pain due to how slowly it restores text messages. Having over 2000 texts restored takes almost 30 minutes and in order to do it, I MUST have the phone connected to the power supply or else the screen switches off and the sync fails.....
Can anyone recommend a decent backup/restore utility? dont mind one that backs up to the SD card as I mainly use it when I flash new roms (one very few days usually)
Using MyPhone to back stuff up once every week or so incase the phone is lost/stolen isnt an issue .... as long as I dont need it for restoring stuff every few days
Thanks
