Deleting IA-Caller ID App. - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Can someone tell me how to delete the IA-Caller Id app. from my I-Mate? I deleted the file in the startup folder and rebooted but it still comes up when I get a phone call. It's also not listed in the "Remove programs" list.
The reason I want to delete it is because I want to us V2R Caller to picture because it comes with a module to set up different ringtones for different callers. Thanks

I haven't tried this, but apparently if you install the trial Ai caller id over the installed version (specifying do not overwrite files), then uninstall it, it will take the installed version with it.
Give it a try and let me know.
The other solution involved hacking you boot file and doing a hard reset

....Hard reset...
Yea... thats what I dont want to do. I will try your sugestion and let you know if it works. Thanks

Ive just tried it, and can verify that it works. No trace of IA Caller ID after uninstall. and Caller2Picture v2.5 seem to work better than ia (accept it has a rather poor interface)

Just rename or delete this reg. key and Caller ID not runing after soft reset. (Qtek2060)
HKLM\Init\Lounch149\
The key value: \Windows\IA_Caller_ID.exe

If you really want to delete the Caller ID application (and I can understand why...) I wrote a bit of an article on playing with the Extended_ROM to remove this and other unwanted applications permenantly. This can be veiwed at:
http://www.pocketreview.net/default.asp?section=article&id=11&page=2
Just look partway down the page to "More on setting up your XDA II". Detailed instructions and some screen shots.

HTC Caller ID Sucks

Is it only me, or does the inbuilt Caller ID app that HTC provides suck rather large rocks?
My ROM is pretty recent (unlocked 1.12 WWE), and the Caller ID says it is version 1.20 (Build 18567), but I have the following problems with it:
- Very slow to load my 200 contacts
- Very difficult to find a contact. Click one of the short-cut letter combinations at the top, and it seems to go to a random contact
- Type in a letter/combination, and it finds that letter/combination in every contact (ie RE gives me fREd), rather than using that as the first two letters in a name
- Overall very slow and sluggish to respond to anything. It would be quicker to call Directory Enquiries and then type the letters in using my toes
- Unless I start it (and its running in the background), I don't get any of the PhotoID on ringing functionality
- Setting the font size of the incoming call has no effect - the name still comes up in microscopically small font.
Any suggestions? Shall I unmap the contacts button and use the default Microsoft contacts manager (without any of the cool pictures/ringtones functionality), or is there an update or an alternative?
Thanks, guys
Alex
I've some issues with it as well.
When I try to change the storage path for photoid files, my CallerID keeps crashing.
Is there a registry location where I can change this? I've tried finding it in the registry but I failed at it
I gave up on the HTC version it really is slow, bug ridden and generally crap.
Try Photo contacts instead, its fast, easy to set-up and doesn't alter contacts when you attach pictures as instead of being attached they are simply referenced by the name you store the contact under.
E.g. If your contact is Joe Bloggs then the contact picture is bloggs,joe and it will display full screen too!!!!!
It's slow and buggy memory hug and has ****ty functionality. Don't install this (ie. by preventing from customization) unless you are planning to use ArcSoft MMS 2.5.
I agree its slow but never found a bug with it (until now with the GPRS problem).
Its the best photo contacts software I have seen for the imate and good for when you're in the car with its full screen id and large display of contacts to dial.
Unless you know of another program which is better?
I did just find this, it's pretty cool, I like the fat-finger only use....

So I thought this was pretty interesting. I installed this software today and overall I really like it until the first time I try to sync and I get the old "Unable to connect..." error message. This is the first time I have gotten this message in over a month since doing the downgrade but it is also the first time since then I have installed a prgram that was some sort of contact/caller ID related software.
I uninstalled this program and it seems the error message has gone away..... wierd
nothing better than this : http://www.pocketx.net/products/photocontactspro_ppc/#photocallerid
Tried every program that is related to photo contact and photo dialing. And I came to one conclusion, they all suck.
There is really no program that doesn't slow your ppc down or give an error of somekind...
Uninstall HTC Caller ID
Does anyone know how to uninstall HTC caller ID. When I go into remove programs on my PPC, HTC Caller ID is not listed. I installed it from a cab file that I downloaded here! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I don't know to uninstall it but there is a way not to install it, but you have to do a hard reset. See instructions here http://pocketpcdubai.infopop.cc/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/582600994/m/237102159/r/237102159#237102159
Question for Jarek
Why should you use PhotoContacts if you use ArcSoft MMS 2.5?
I also don't like the PhotoContacts prog but don't want to spoil anything else.
Thanks

1. delete the IA_CID_Startup shortcut file from the \windows\startup directory
2. delete the IA_CID_Startup from the \windows dir.
I think the Caller ID function of this program is decent, but there is no way to backup/restore your photo/ringtone assignments which really sucks. So after every hard reset you have to do it all over again..... :evil:
After I came to this forum and so tired of the htc caller ID I decided to give a try to photo contact as bruxelles5 suggested, and I have to confess that it did impressed me. It was been working perfectly, photos stored in sd card so after hard reset I don't have to set it up again, full screen image and picture arrangement. Very good *****
PS: I got rid of caller ID with anansky method and got 27 mgs store!
Photo Contacts bug?
Does anyone else have a bug in Photo Contacts Pro like me: I have to pick up the phone useing touchsceen button otherwise (with hardware button) both me and caller(!!!) hear nasty "fragmented" end of ringtone wich rings (ca 1 sec) AFTER pressing the button
It doesn't seem to depend on location of ringtones folder (main memory, storage card)...
BTW, all the ringtones are in wma-format. Should I try another format?
Any thoughts?
PS Sorry for my English
SOLVED: Mort, thank you very much for your MortRing!!!
I have this problem as well with the ring tone blasting into the caller's ears when using the hardware button to answer. Do you mind sharing what you did to solve that?
How can you choose which of the caller ID apps opens when a call comes in?

Just try this s/w http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=20711&highlight=mortring
I'm happy with MortRing as I don't need Photo ID on my phone but I like to assign individual ringtones very much
It is unbelievable that HTC ships products with this crap. Even a cheap cellphone has better Caller ID functionality. Not only is the program very slow when editing, you can't backup/restore your ringtone/photo assignments. Caller ID doesn't work 50% of the time, and after a lot of troubleshooting, I have not reached a firm conclusion as to why. The only credible explanation I found was in the XDA-developers forum and it simply seems that unless you have plenty of free resourses the program won't work. And still, I have an upgraded Jam (128 MB).
This is very very sad. I miss the solid performance of my iPaq.

Jamin - Delete recent programs from start menu

Hi Guys,
I just got my Jamin a few days ago and have hard reset it more times than I care to remember. There are a few things that irritate me that hopefully you guys can clear up for me.
Firstly, how do I switch off the recent programs section of the start menu?
Also, how do I clear recent searches and Terminal Service information?
Thanks,
DB
Ok... so this might not be the most complex of questions for you guys to answer... but someone MUST know... And the same for the dictionary... where's that located?
Both entries are in the registry. Both require you to perform a reset afterwards. You can not turn off the recently used programs list (stupid M$, I know!) but you can clear it. Attached is a CAB file that should clear the recently used list (make sure it is read only so it doesn't get deleted after you run it). It is meant for WM2003SE but I think it should work for WM5; you may just have to change the Max OS Version using WinCE CAB Manager. For the Terminal Services Client list, you will have to search the registry fo the IP/server name and then delete it manually.

Thanks Mate,
I appreciate the help
What app do I use to regedit? Obviously Start >Run - regedt32 doesn't work! haha
EDIT: Call me blind... but where's the attachment!? Haha
Yea, good point where is the attachment? This is the 2nd time this is happening to me on this forums in one day! The file upload keeps timing out, so I'm just going to tell you the Registry change you have to make and you will have to use WinCE CAB Manager to make your own cab file:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shell\TaskSwitch]
"0"=""
"1"=""
"10"=""
"11"=""
"2"=""
"3"=""
"4"=""
"5"=""
"6"=""
"7"=""
"8"=""
"9"=""
Use PHM Registry Editor or trial version of Resco Explorer 2005. Both should be on Pocketgear.com or try google. Depending on your Registry editor you may have to exclude the speech marks.
Hope it helps
VJEschaton has a command line to clear the recent menu. However, the OS still requires you to soft reset. Defeats the point IMHO.

Finally HTCHome.dll Cracked !!

Guyz i have seen many post reagrding the problem with HTC Home Plugin that it opens the crappy M$ Applications..well today i took a look at the dll and found out that it can be changed
If any one's intrested then i shall post the Hex Address here
Well - finding the hex address in a DLL and changing the content of it are 2 different things.
Have you successfully changed the program that is started?
Next problem ... the most files from HTC have a signature. If you HEX Edit some things, your signature is damage!
Hi Ather!
I agree, it's really diferent finding the HEX position than to modify it.... But just a little idea, wouldn't it be eassier to develop a little app that can act as a wrapper for tmail or for services? I mean, you have tmail.exe renamed to tmail2.exe and place other app's in it's place. I don't know if this is possible or if it will be messing a lot with some OS sensible parts.... What do you think?
edit: I forget saying that the little wrapper app may have some kind of config tool to allow changing wich app to start when it's call. By default it should run tmail2.exe...
edit2: you can take this as far as you want... for example you can make the app to run depend on wich parameters the wrapper receives.
(sorry for the lot of edits... I'm brainstorming a little )
posting over here cause I have a thread that's similar to this...
in regards to the wrapper app...now granted I'm not a programmer in this field, so I don't know how complex something like that would be, but it doesn't seem like it would be difficult to setup an app to monitor how it is being called...
if call(tmail.exe /var1)
run tmail2.exe
elseif call(tmail.exe /var2)
run myMsgApp.exe

I think the first part is , as _h4x0r_ said on the other thread, knowing if changing the exe name will do the trick. Any one can confirm this point? I'm currently at work and cannot test it...
I'll be able to test this in a sec...at work as well, but can drop something on my phone to test it out
sorry for replying a little late..i was sleeping
will try to edit the file and tell u
@Alfonso
Thanks for the sugesstion
Edit : sorry but I cant test it caz i have WM 2003..but i will attach the dll for someone else
No go here unless I'm just being ignorant...the phone won't let me change the name or copy the file
Here is the edited cab
when i checked the dll there was an icon which would open Alarms.. ( ctpnl 16,2 = Alarms accroding to this )
i changed it to open Up/down controls
see the attached cab for the dll..just install it into the device..it reads all the sms , mms, calls count from the registery..

but I like being able to open my alarms
I'd find it much more usefull if I could change which messaging apps are opened

it can be changed later
but first thing is that did the DLL work or not.if yes then we can continue..
Yeah I tried it from the PC...it just tells me I don't have access. Now, I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier and I don't know if it has any bearing on the situation...but while the program may not be 'running,' I see tmail.exe listed when I switch to the 'Processes' view in Task Manager. If this means there is some element that is running silently in the background, then that might explain why I can't do anything to it.
It might be possible that tmail.exe is a system file. You could try Resco Explorer to see if it can change it.
actually it can be changed...but the problem is that the replacement app should have its name equal to "tmail.exe" words..im not that good with Hex-Editing...there is a user i cant remeber his name who edited the Lg today plugin..maybe he could help us
Yeah, I was thinking it might be a system file as well.
Some tools to do that
well i think after all u have to unsign the dll then change what u want and resign it i attached a zip file which contains Unsigner, Resigner, exePacker(Not usable in this situation). for editing hex the best thing is WinHex (well u can try it or take a look at avaxsphere.com ). Before we used this tools for HTC Album and it worked + LG today Screen. I think it will work for this too.

I had done this in the past by getting the email button to launch flexmail. I hex edited tmail.exe to be fmail.exe and used vjbrisk to redirect to flexmail. Don't forget to sign the dll or it won't run.

XDA Nova - Mediahubmini.exe - Can't delete it

Hi people,
I got a big problem regarding my XDA Nova.
I installed Touch Settings on it, but every time I put something in the mediahub (for example EyePhoto for pictures) and launch it, pimg.exe (pictures and videos) AND Eyephoto shows up. The same happens with every program. I read that I need to overwrite the mediahubmini.exe with the patched one, but I get an error if I do it. Already tried to stop the process with memmaid, but this doesnt work either. Cant overwrite/delete it.
I already did a hard reset but I did a softreset when it came to software branding, so I dont have any O2 programs on it. I dont think thats the cause but this may matter.
Thanks in advance
Try FdcSoft Task Manager to kill it.
Umm..I was able to kill the process mediahubmini.exe, but I still get an error if I try to overwrite it.
This is what it looks like
(sorry its German, I actually prefer English versions. It says something like:
Cant overwrite mediahubmini, make sure there is enough space and it is not write protected)
Is it possible that it cant be overwritten because it is write protected?
Is there a program like fileassassin for pocket PC?
Would there be a difference if I got myself a MDA Touch or VPA Touch?
Maybe it's locked 'cause it's system file. Try TotalCommander CE to delete "System" attribute and then delete it (using TotalCmd too). If it doesn't work, Resco Explorer should help.
I already had all this programs on my phone, but i'll try to get rid of the "system" thingy(dont know how to but ill figure it out)
So..I tried it with total commander and the picture shows what I found.
Seems to be burnt into the rom.
What do you think?
If others deleted it and it works, it will work for you too
P.S. You can use free Spb Screenshot to take screenshots of your display
Give me an example of someone who got it working on a XDA nova.
The next time ill get a genuine HTC Touch.
I really cant change the settings you see in the picture.
by the way: Using my camcorder is a bit faster
I think I found out why it didnt work.
This phone is not cid unlocked, so I couldnt flash mediahubmini.exe into the rom.
I gave it back after all..ill buy a real htc touch and cid unlock it.
Thanks for the help gronostaj

get authority over cprog.exe

ok i need some help getting authority over the Cprog.exe...
i have an app and i was wondering basically it looks at an inocming call..
basically "SystemState(SystemProperty.PhoneCallTalking)" it reads that and if it says yes it preforms commands. The commands are to pickup the handset etc... The problem i have is that cprog.exe kicks in and the phone rings, vibrates, and gives a popup of the incoming call when i jsut want the call to automatically be answered if its incoming state. So basically im looking for a reg edit so that when that state is satified it poitns to my app first before cprog.exe so that when people are running my app they dont have to hear a ringer or popup message, the active call gets directly answered?
i dont know how to program in TAPI, so is there a tapi code i can copy and paste maybe in my public partial class or public namespace a tapi code that wil satisify this. Basically allowing this program to be above cprog.exe. Or... ot have cprog.exe killed when my program is running..
Thanks!
anyway thanks!
is there a reg edit i can do on my install or something i can put in my code???
thanks!
bump? it up
If all you want is for the phone to be automatically answered, then it is actually a lot easier than you might think, even without a 3rd party application.
Just open the phone canvas, click the menu soft-key and click options. Move over to the "More" tab and just adjust the settings however you like.
If this does not satisfy what you were looking to do then I have no other suggestions.
In any case, good luck!!
lol... no no.. that is not what im talking about ...
i have a program i have created.. i want when its running that if an incoming call comes in for it to intercept that data (incoming call) before cprog.exe so that it will not ring or notifiy of the call and instead just auto answer it.. (When my program is running)
its a TAPI thing or reg edit.. im not sure>????
If you want your program to run instead of cprog, name your program's exe cprog.exe, make it into a cab and have the cab install it to the Windows directory.
You can see a demonstration with the cab I just made. It installs a text file renamed to cprog.exe that runs it instead of the real one. Install it, soft reset. Test it and then uninstall it and then all will be normal again.
The only problem with this method is that your app would be there in place of cprog all the time and so it would always run..
dwizzy130
hmm... that is interesting..
i wonder if there is a way to make cprog.exe a text file. So basically it will point to cprog.exe (the real one in some other directory) as normal, and then when my app is run, it poitns to mine..
so basically point to my app 1 (only if active)
and then point to cprog.exe if not?
is that possible?
thanks!
i tried to run your cab and it says i do not have the permissions?

I believe that actually might be possible (or something close) using Mortscript. Now I have no idea how to use mortscript but it's easy to learn and use. And it can do most anything you can think of.
About my cab, you may have to install SDKcerts first. What ROM are you running?
dwizzy130
some htc touch sprint gsp rom?
DCD rom i think..;.
but beyond that just in general i want to implement this into my program.. so that it will install this cab with that file etc..... the question is how.. because i iwll be giving this cab and program to the forum as well as friends... aka it has to be workable and certified etc... easy to use basically.

dwizzy130
yea but the problem is... basically... i dont have a cab or instructions for that part yet. I hvae hte first part down.. What i now need is to basically use phone functions without cprog.exe...
(tapi)...
but here is the issue.... i dont know how to make a file so that in HKLM/System/State/Phone ActiveCallCount =1, so that it points to my program before cprog.exe (so that it does not ring etc...) how do i edit that ???? so that it points to my device before...?
I doubt it's so easy with a simple registry key so I guess you have to try and load a hooking DLL into the cprog.exe process (or probably hook into some DLL which is loaded by cprog.exe) and intercept the needed functions... This is tough ****. Happy hard reseting times!
