PLEASE HELP Failed ROM update - Gives me blank screen - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

During the flashing process my Qtek complete gone, no ROM available I just get blank screen, my question is, could I use other Qtek to back-up ROM to the SD card or hard disk (with new program), after then I can use this back-up to restore my ROM? Or What I can I do to restore the Qtek to a factory default state?
Thanks

im sure u can, atleast I did on my t-mobile ppc.
if u cant write to SD card... take the card to a dealer or
show room display, insert the card, boot to bootloader (reset +push on)
and write urself a boot image on your SD card...
i know it worked for me !

What ROM you are talking about CE or GSM ?
hello
please find some information about Flashing your Qtek ROM using the 'SD Card' or 'Bootloader' Method
http://www.xda-developers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1717
i hope this could help to recover your device back to normal but if it was GSM or Radio upgrade there's another method you can use the search tool here to get it and how to fix it
best regards and good luck

Save my actual ROM

Hi,
I'd like to try to make my own rom with mkrom, but first I'd like to know if there is a way to get/extract my actual rom from my XDA before (I have the french one from Bouygues and as no french rom is available I'd like to keep it) ?
Thanks
Zendrui
backing up your rom
i think you can boot your device in bootloader mode by pressing reset and the power button at the same time.
when your device is in bootloader mode press the contact button then you get the flash tools.
there choose ce rom to sd - ( you have to have an empty sd card inserted )
press the action button to confirm and your rom is being saved to the sd-card..
to restore this you have to insert this card and boot your device in bootloader mode - it recognizes the rom backup on the sd card then and asks you if you want to download it from the card..
best regards
tim
Ok in fact I did that thing when I put Linux on a Ipaq but I didn't know you can boot the XDA in bootloader. I try and it works well.
Now I can play with the mkrom
Thank you
Another question. I read on this site about the wallaby bootloader but I'm not sure. If I do a CE+BOOT on SD, do I save all ? (I mean Wince (RUU ?) and GSM (RSU?) part )
If I use this option, flash my XDA then decide to restore what I had on my SD card (CE+BOOT) I retrieve all (GSM Wince ...) ?
Hi
Could you send me a copy of your french rom ?
Best regards
 [email protected]_nospam
When I put linux on the Ipaq, I installed a bootldr (it was running under wince) and get the CE rom file (wince_image.gz) that I could copy on my PC.
On the XDA I tried CE+Boot on SD card, but when I restart, my XDA wants to format my SD-card. Of course if I bootlaod it detects that my SD-card has a ROM and ask me if I want to install it.
I don't know how extract the rom file(s) from the SDcard to copy it somewhere else ?
Does someone can answer my previous question : If I do a CE+BOOT on SD, do I save all ? (I mean Wince part (RUU ?) and GSM (RSU?) part )
If I use this option, flash my XDA then decide to restore what I had on my SD card (CE+BOOT) I retrieve all (GSM Wince ...) ?
Regards, Zendrui
For one question the answer was on the site oops:I ask before read it sorry)
So to retrieve the rom from the SD : http://xda-developers.com/XDArit/
I didn't find, yet , if save CE+boot will allow me to save all features of my actual XDA state ... to be continued
Yes, CE+boot represents the entire state of the flash. It does not include the RAM filesystem, but will get you the same cold-booted device back.
Excellent ! I wait my PC adaptater for SD card to save my rom and I will play with mkrom
Optionnal details : if the CE+boot represents the entire state of the flash, what is the GSM rom ?
Regards.

Well, I guess the 32MB isn't the complete state, you're right... The GSM ROM is 4MB of flash which is completely separate from the 32 MB of OS ROM. You can play with 'mkrom' all you want and not screw up your GSM ROM, so it'd not that relevant here.
Yes, the main goal to flash my XDA is the "always on GPRS". And I suppose that I only have to update the CE part and not the GSM part.
To be sure I ask Bouygue if I could play with my XDA, by flashing it, and in case of something bad happens, send it back to restore it and they say yes ...
So as soon as I receive my PC adaptater I'll try to save CE rom, GSM rom ... and try different ways to see ... with many precautions of course

OK but how can i reflash my SX56 with SD cadr if I don't have any back up ?
plus everybody has bootloader 5.17 or older but my is 5.22 :-(
Hello,
you have 2 options both use SD card:
1. get ROM backup from any other working XDA.
2. get SD card reader/writer. change the extention of the ROM file you cooked to .zip and use winzip to extract a file named NK.nbf under \english directory. use the SD writer to copy this file to the SD card.
in both cases, insert the SD card into your XDA and use the bootloader.
good luck ...
similar problem last year
Hiya Mike2001,
I had a similar problem last year. I found that while the ActiveSync monitor shows no connectivity you will still be able to transfer an OS image. One hiccup I did find, and I am running wallaby 5.17 by the way, is a version conflict with the proposed rom and existing header information. This is a windows registry problem on your PC caused by the crash which needs to be deleted prior to attempting the upgrade.
Hope this helps,
Cheers,

How to fix failure during upgrading ROM

I have a siemens sx56 with AT&T. I was trying to upgrade the ROM version to unlock it. Using XDA developer software and during this process, somehow the connection between the computer and the phone stopped (active Sync). Now the phone is not responding and the screen still displaying the upgrading process. I tried to reconnect but the Active sync does not recognize the devise. I read in this forum that you can solve this problem by using SD card with a good ROM version. Here is what I did. I copied the NK.nbf to the SD card using my computer SD read/write slot. I inserted the SD card in the phone and did the boot loader mode. What I got is "Wallaby boot loader v5.22 GSM OK" that set. Does the phone will automatically ask to press action to start flashing or I have to press a certain key. I tryed all the keys but they give me different tests that they work fine. So far I am not able to find the key that will install the the cooked rom. After that, when I tried to use the SD card in the computer, it did not recognize the card and ask me to format the SD card. I tried the fat and the fat 32 format and download NK.nb1 and/or NK.nbf and again I got the samething. Do I need to down load the ROM file using the XDAtool or just copying the file from the computer to sd directory will do it. I would really appreciate it if someone points out the best way of handling this problem (i.e. get the phone to work with the appropriate ROM and unlocking it) thanks.

Bro, you shouldn't change the Sd fat you erased what's written on it anyway your unit is still on the safe side and you can bring it to normal.
First of all downgrade your bootloader to 5.15 >>>

Hi,
I also have exactly the same problem with my Siemens SX56 as those of Seif's. My Wallaby's boot loader version is 5.22. Ramram said that the first thing to do is to downgrage bootloader. But I couldn't understand how to downgrade the bootloader because I do not have a copy of old bootloader. Should I use 'OSImageTools' or 'XDArit' to write backed up CE image to SD card?
Seif, how did you solve your problem?

You need XDArit to write the rom to your SD read the past post on how to copy rom to your SD which is the safest way of installing the rom into the device, by using XDAtools press on FIX BROKEN BOOTLOADER this will downgrade you bootloader to 5.15 don't forget to connect your unit to the cradle when you want to downgrade.
I recommend 1rst of all to make a quick search in threads to be totaly ready for this
this would help :

Update : How to fix failure during upgrading ROM
The problem was solved. Here is what I did. I copied the NK.nbf file to the SD card using the XDAtools. It seems that the XDAtools uses special format for the bootloader that well recognize the ROM file on the SD card. Rafia your bootloader (v5.22) is fine you do not need to downgrade it.
You should follow this procedure:
1. Install ActiveSync that comes with the device.
2. download XDAtools from this site and install it in your computer.
3. Cook the ROM ( or get it by extracting the zip file from the XDA developers special edition ROM.)
4. Use the XDAtools to copy the cooked NK.nbf file from your computer to the directory of the SD card
5. Insert the SD card in the dead device and go to the bootloader mode (soft reset while pressing power key). Make sure it has more than 80% battery before starting.
6. If it is still working and the bootloader ver. is older than 6.22, it will ask you to press action to start flasing.
7. Once finished, remove the SD card and hard reset, wait 60 sec and hard reset again.
Good Luck and special thanks to Biso for his help.

Thanks a MILLION for this info. I'm in the same boat, with bootloader 5.22. One question though, when I'm in bootloader mode, which option do I choose from the menu to transfer the ROM to my device from the SD card? Will there be something automatically coming up? Or will I use one of the options listed below:
1. CE ROM TO SD
2. BOOT TO SD
3. CE + BOOT TO SD
4. GSM ROM TO SD
5. CE + GSM TO SD
By the way, so I never do anything to ruin my device again, can someone please explain what each option does?? I really don't have a clue.
as you can read from the menu you type in all these options are to the SD card
and they are to backup i suppose
rom upgrading should start automatic when a sd card with valid rom is in the sdport
and you are in the bootloader
maybe it ask you i forget but it's not something you have to find browsing

Thanks for answering my question. Now I simply need to find a really good ROM to use to load back onto my device. What I would like to do is end up with Windows Mobile 2003, but the device is locked at the moment.
Can someone recommend a ROM for me to load onto the device so that I can then unlock it and THEN upgrade to 2003? Or is there a 2003 ROM out there that will also unlock? Originally, I ended up in this predicament by upgrading to the 2003 upgrade from Rogers AT&T, but that locked the device on me. I then tried to use a cooked 2003 ROM, and that's where I am now, without a useable device.
Thanks for all replies!

Thanks, Ramram. I'm sure I'll have more success this time, but it's just odd that I went from a 2002 ROM, which was unlocked, to the Rogers 2003 ROM, and the phone was locked after that.
I guess I should stay away from that Rogers ROM then?

Why to worry about the Rogers Rom you know now a way to unlock your phone.
I assume the Rogers rom is based like the At&t rom which it has the sound clipping bug , so I'd rather say that you could cook a T-mobile rom 4.01.16 WM2003 and try it it does not have the sound clipping bug..

Hi,
My Imate JAMin is dead after trying to flash the ROM with the QTEK S200 ROM using awizard. Anyways my phone will not connect to PC when I try to downgrade to the original ROM file (the JAM_WWE...exe). The problem is my PC wont connect to my phone, I get error 240 or something similar (cannot connect to phone message). So what I am asking is if anyone can backup their Imate JAMin ROM to a SD card and upload the image for me. I figure somebody here has got to have an extra SD card lying around somewhere. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Hi,
If you tell me how to make a SD image I will make one for you.
thanks for offering help. I am out right now, when i get home i will do a search and find out how to do it. In the meantime if anyone has any links for backup rom image to sd for wm5 and how to save this image to a file and then to write the image file to sd card again. thanks again.

1. Put the phone in bootloader mode (make sure battery is over 50% charged).
To do this, press the Camera button down, hold it there, and press soft reset. Let off the soft reset button BUT continue to hold the camera button down until you see 4 color bands on the screen. Let go of the camera button when they appear.
2. Connect USB cable to PC.
3. Re-run imate JAMin full flash .EXE file. Should work fine and get you back to normal.

Thanks for your help. I tried that before 5 times and the phone would get stuck on the boot splash screen. Now I cannot even get the phone into bootloader mode anymore unless it is plugged directly into the outlet. I do not know why it is doing this. I have charged the battery all the way. I also have a magician so I have tried 2 different batteries charged all the way. Since I can only get the bootloader mode while it is plugged directly to the wall, I cannot connect it to the pc. I have no idea why it is doing this. I just want to try restoring from an SD card rom backup before I send it in to imate.
I have made a sd image from my ROM and uploading it now. It's about 54 MB. I also tested to flash my Imate with this card and it works good. When you enter bootmode with the sdcard inserted it asks if it should restore from card. At this point press the comm manager button (the button under the volume control).
It's a image on a 128 MB SD card. You just have to write the image to your card with ntrw.
Good luck and let us know the results!

Thank you so much!!!! I really appreciate it. I just hope it works. If it does not work for me at least others can get this sd image to fix their prophets in the future if they cannot get it to connect to their PCs. I will let you know my results.
Do you know if the device has to be unlocked already or can you use this to get around the CID lock?
The SD card flash did not work for me. I was hoping the RGB color screen was the bootloader but it was not. I guess there is something wrong with my JAMin so I am sending it in to imate in the middle east. I would like to thank Swartb for taking the time to get the ROM image on SD card.
To answer the CID lock question, I think it does not bypass it so if you want to use the SD card to restore it has to be the same phone model so in this case the JAMin.
Hi!!!! could you tell me where is that SD copy of your ROM????
Thnaks!!!!!!

[guide] How to make an SD Rom Flash Image

[Your SD card will be formatted in a special format during the procedure below and you won't be able to use it for other purposes unless you reformat it again afterwards. Please be adviced that you will lose the backed up ROM on SD card when you format it afterwards again!!!!]
I successfully created a FLASH IMAGE on my SD card and afterwards flashed my T-MOBILE MDA from there.
The magic tool needed for this is the HTC mtty.exe (attached below)
You have to follow exactly the STEP-BY-STEP guide otherwise the procedure will fail! I will not be responsible for any damage on your device!
Please make sure that your battery is charged to at least 50% and also back up your device before following the guide below!
CREATING THE IMAGE ON SD CARD
STEP 1
Open ActiveSync (device not attached) and uncheck USB and COM port in Connection Settings. This is necessary to release the USB port for the mtty utility!
STEP 2
Get you an SD card of 128MB or bigger (fresh formated to FAT32) and insert it in your WIZARD
STEP 3
Set the Wizard in BOOTLOADER MODE by pressing and holding POWER + CAMERA and press RESET - if you got the 3-colored screen you were successful!
STEP 4
Connect the device via USB to the computer, then start the mtty.exe on your computer
STEP 5
Settings in the mtty.exe:
Port: \\.\WSCUSBSH001
(all other settings leave the way they are! Please pay attention that you write the port exactly as mentioned above: 2 backslashes followed by a dot and another backslash - this is not a typo!!! I attached a screenshot below)
STEP 6
Now click OK. You will get a notepad-like window with a blinking cursor. After hidding the ENTER KEY once you should see "CMD>"
Type behind that: r2sd all
STEP 7
The utility will start now to write your IMAGE to SD. Please do not interrupt the process! You can see its progress on a statusbar on the bottom of the device's screen. Wait until it shows 100%. Also: the CMD> will appear again on your desktop when it is done.
You created successfully your IMAGE on SD!
HOW TO FLASH FROM THE SD CARD ???
Turn of your device!
Insert the SD card with the IMAGE you've created
Turn on your device in BOOTLOADER MODE by pressing and holding CAMERA and POWER button and performing RESET
=> Now you need to be fast!!! A white screen will appear for not longer than 3 seconds asking you if you want to FLASH from SD card. You have to press the VOICE DIAL / RECORD button within that time frame otherwise it will switch to 'normal' bootloader mode.
That's it!
NOTE:
Do not wonder! You won't be able to read the SD card afterwards on a Windows computer - I just tried it. I guess the procedure above formats the card in a special format, at least Windows tells me that the card is not formatted! So, the draw back is that you can't use the card for other stuff but the ROM IMAGE!
Very nice article. A couple of typos, but overall very well written!
Just out of curiosity, I've seen another thread on making an SD image of a rom, but it indicates you have to be CID Unlocked for it to work. Is that true for this method also (I haven't compared the two)? Just curious as that is an important piece of information (either way) to make note of... So if someone with a CID Locked phone could try this, that would be great.
Also curious if this works for G3 and G4 devices.
I can't try it out on a CID locked device since mine is CID unlocked already!
The guide above is for real HTC technicans, so, I guess it should work either way!
If somebody has a still CID locked device: it would be great if you could give it a shot!
Does this uittlity make a ROM image as the OS is NOW (meaning with all tweaks and installs and everything) or just the basic ROM as you would get with a hard reset?
It is not a backup. It will put the factory ROM on SD card.
The actual image with all your 'tweaks and personalization' can be easily backed up to SD card by using SPB Backup or better SPB Clone.
Does this method work for wm6 ROM?I am a vista user
Not sure if the MTTY can connect from VISTA but in gerneral: it should work with any ROM version on your WIZ.
well, can we place our .nbf image file (wm6) on sd card and install it from the sd card?
Not this way! It will create a special formatted FLASH IMAGE from your installed ROM on SD. When you do it you won't be able to use the SD card for data storage until you reformat it again.
I am not sure if somebody came up with a solution for flashing nbf files directly from SD!
The procedure above is still helpful if you just need a backup of your shipped ROM or if you need to reflash an almost dead WIZ or if you have the need to reflash your WIZ on the go without a computer ...
Hi
I have a frozen **** brick which got stuck while upgrading (Dopodp800w) I tried to flash it thru sd card (which containes original nbh file in my doc folder).
When I try to invoke the bootloader it says "searching for sd card" then goes to 3 color band and nothing else happenes
Can you help me
Edit: Working like a champ.
But you need to edit the one in the topic. It dose not work. The one in the screen shot dose.
Thanks.

Great finding Junner!
Can I use "your" rom image to flash "my" phone? Or the image is unique for the one you got the image from?
Could you please investigate with your HTC Technician if this process is valid for both G3s & G4s?
Thanks!
Basically you will be able to use it on any phone!
My problem is that I only had 2 test devices: an European T-Mobile MDA VARIO and a 8125 from Cingular / USA. I could use one and the same image (SD card) on booth devices.
I have no CID lock and also no SIM lock on both devices, so, I can't give you a feedback on what happens if your device is locked.
Maybe somebody else has still a locked device and is willing to give it a try before unlocking? (But please somebody with experience! I won't be responsible if you brick your device! )
Is there any way I can take the Flash Image from the SD and convert it to nb file?

Hmmm, you would have to figure out first in what format the SD card is formatted. Afterwards you might be able to find an application which can extract the file(s) from the card.
I did not want to digg deeper than I had to, it was only importand to me that I can flash from SD when ever I cross the ocean from USA to Europe. That saves me a lot of 'setting up's' ... ... just flash and load backup!
Not working on CID locked

I tried in a G3 & also in a G4, both CID locked 8125´s. It didn´t work, see attached file for the message I got; looks for me that the CID unlock gives the proper security level to do make the command work. I´ll unlock one of them to see if the result is a different one.
