Hey not super familiar with how to deodex. If you can walk me through it I would be happy to test for you.
Sent from my SM-N900V using xda app-developers app

I tried it on my z lite which was bootlooping. In the middle of the firmware upgrade i saw a red 'X' for a split second then the animation stopped. I left it for a couple of minutes then it went back to the firmware upgrade page. It was supposed to restart the watch once the upgrade completes. But since it went back to the upgrade page I'm guessing it didnt go well.
There is a restore tool for the z1, an upgrade for the z1 and another for the z lite. Maybe you can look in to those and help you compile an upgrade.zip which will work for the z1 and z lite. And hopefully help me bring new life to my paper weight. I would love to help with a logcat but i don't know how to get 1.

I cannot use the restore tool because it is for the z1 not the z lite. It has a different firmware in it that will surely not work with the lite. Unless, maybe you can look into it and see if you can swap files from the zlite firmware upgrade file into it and maybe change some codes?

optimistic long term to do list:
get it working
fix OK Google if needed
fix all bugs
regular updates to match Z1/lite firmwares & new AW previews/leaks
LATER switch to trying to clone LG G Watch when it comes out/FW leaks

I'm on a custom 4.3 ROM, but was thinking of trying this out anyway. How did you get your update? I'm not sure if I can use PCC with a custom ROM.
I tried the Sony Emma flashtool earlier but it only had the 4.1 (.344) version

It was through PCC mate. I had my tablet connected this morning with no update, so it's obviously only been out for an hour or so.
Just installed, and I'm actually rather enjoying it! Alot better than what screenshots have shown.

Thanks. I'll try Emma again soon. Ironic really - Emma is a Sony developer tool which is meant to give updates a bit sooner than the usual methods
For those of us that are on Cyanogen, is there any way of finding out if the FTF has any important firmware updates in there?
I can rename the .370 FTF to ZIP and see all the sin files, but the vast majority I am unsure about.
Otherwise, I can always nandroid and do it that way

Relock your BL or wait for a ftf.
The problem is not using a custom rom and update with pcc (the rom doesn't matter but the kernel yes), it's when your bl is unlocked you can't update via SUS/PCC no more.

Once the FTF is out and about is there a way of knowing what we need to flash (and perhaps how) to not affect our existing custom setup?

When you flash a ftf file with flashtool, deselect DATA in the wipe section (box in top right corner). That will preserve your data when you flash.

Ok, sounds like a good compromise
When someone uses PCC to download the firmware, is a local copy stored?
Just wondering what the chances of getting this file are!
I like everything is this update, except the recent apps tray. Swiping away should always be 'swipe across' not 'swipe up or down'.
Few new features might have been nice, but can't complain. At least it's arrived!
It also has the thumb keyboard!

No, 100% stock but unlocked and running on a different provider.
Finished installing. Not rooted, unlocked, but still on Fido. Everything seems.. the same. I'll report back after making some calls. Camera doesn't seem any better but I'm in an extremely bright office right now with the sun in my face. I'll take some photos at home to see.
Edit: Keyboard performance seems worse.
Ok. So I am on Rogers and just flashed the firmware.
It does make the camera better IMO. I took some before and after shots in my office. Kinda dark, but the two samples do show a difference.
Here are some before and after shots:

Installed, I don't think it was even 5 minutes.
I'm using mine on Koodo (Telus). I've never had choppy audio, anyone else on Rogers firmware have it before the update?

[GUIDE] How to root 10.5.1.A.0.283 / 10.5.1.A.0.292 [Locked Bootloader]

This guide will show you how to root your Xperia Z on 10.5.1.A.0.283 or 10.5.1.A.0.292 with a locked bootloader.
Xperia Z (phone) only. This means not Tablet Z, ZL, ZR, Z1, Z2 or any other Z series device. You could damage your device if you flash these files to anything but an Xperia Z.
Requirements:
Device already running 10.5.1.A.0.283 or 10.5.1.A.0.292
USB debugging enabled.
Flashtool and ADB drivers by DooMLoRD installed.
Flashtool by Androxyde already installed.
Easy Root by zxz0O0.
Downloads:
The kernels supplied here are for the Xperia Z only. Do not flash them to a ZL/ZR or any other device or you will soft brick your device.
Xperiaz_10.5.A.0.230_kernel_only.ftf - 7.38 MB
Mirror 1 - Mega
Mirror 2 - Mediafire
XperiaZ_10.5.1.A.0.283_kernel_only.ftf - 7.51 MB
Mirror 1 - Mega
Mirror 2 - Mediafire
XperiaZ_10.5.1.A.0.292_kernel_only.ftf - 7.51 MB
Mirror 1 - Mega
Mirror 2 - Mediafire
Instructions:
Follow all of the steps. There are no unnecessary parts to the guide.
1. Shut down your device.
2. Flash the Xperiaz_10.5.A.0.230_kernel_only.ftf using Flashtool. Basic Flashtool instructions here.
3. Boot your device. WiFi will not work. Do not worry, this will be restored later. Also, as this seems to be generating repeated questions, the firmware version in "About phone" will not change.
4. Root using one of these options:
a. Easy Root. This worked for me.
b. The root function of the latest Flashtool.
c. Enable mobile data and use towelroot.
5. Shutdown your device.
6. Depending on your firmware version, either flash:
XperiaZ_10.5.1.A.0.283_kernel_only.ftf
or
XperiaZ_10.5.1.A.0.292_kernel_only.ftf
using Flashtool.
7. Boot your device.
8. You may need to install SuperSU from the Play Store - Link
9. Open SuperSU and update binaries if prompted.
That's it. You should now be rooted.
Additional Information:
"The kernels are for C6602, but I have a C6603!". Don't worry about it. Both devices use identical kernels, therefore it doesn't make any difference.
Is your antivirus saying towelroot/Easy Root/Flashtool is a virus? See this post for an explanation.
As some are asking about this, XZDualRecovery works fine with this firmware version.
For those having trouble installing the Flashtool drivers and/or using Flashtool, see my guide here.
Disclaimer:
The steps and files used in this guide worked for me with no issues. However, use of this guide and any downloads provided are at your own risk.
I will accept no responsibility for anything that may go wrong or any damage to your device/data loss.
Credits:
Androxyde for Flashtool
zxz0O0 for Easy Root
Geohot for the original towelroot exploit
Chainfire for SuperSU
DooMLoRD for the Flashtool driver package.
If I have forgotten anyone, let me know and I'll add proper credits.

I really have no idea. Reinstalled drivers so many times. Infact to update, I had to change my customization number as it wouldn't let me flash any FTF for the very same reason. Eventually, after 5 times reinstalling and retrying to flash, I switched to 32-bit Flashtool, reinstalled one last time and it gave me an error on the first try, on the 2nd try, it fixed itself. So I'm stumped.

EDIT. I downloaded the 1.1MB update, nothing new was changed. However something very weird happened to my Z2 after this update.
I powered off the phone to recharge to full after the update installed. I powered it on after immediately unplugging after it said 100%, and lines appeared on the screen at first boot. I did not see the Xperia logo, the Powered by Android, and the boot animation. I did get to the lockscreen, homescreen, and apps fine. NO LINES APPEARED THROUGHOUT THE INTERFACE, ONLY ON THE BOOTUP SEQUENCE. I was able to play games fine, but the screen is now in an alarmingly yellow tint. This only happens when the digitiser does whack.
I restarted the phone again, and the Xperia, Powered by Android, and Boot animations appeared normal, and the Yellowish tint has disappeared throughout.
Now I'm worried if the digitiser is whack or this is just a one time thing. I need to reiterate, this has absolutely NOT HAPPENED BEFORE THE MAINTENANCE UPDATE WAS INSTALLED. Make of that what you will I guess.
I m just feeling I have more free RAM now as compared to before.

I have the same notification, both actually: the first one 23.5.A.1.291 and the second one 1.1.A.0.1 with my Xperia Z2
I updated it with the 1.1.A.0.1, it's OK, the phone don't reboot and I don't loose root and xposed modules.
But I don't want to update with the 23.5.A.1.291. I don't want to lose root, xposed, and root apps (it was hard for me to have them on my phone (and I don't know why I can't access anymore to recovery, with locked bootloader)).
Strange thing: Build number is already on 23.5.A.1.291, it ask me to update to the same version
Yep, it just installs a new storage app. Not sure what it does. Might have something to do with SDCard or OTG compatibility.
Check the Android security patch level in Settings -> About. I believe the .291 build only includes 1 May 2016
Anyone had battery drain issues since the update?

Its related to the internal storage checking and notification .
I did get this update 2 times in the last week. All is normal for me and the battery is the same.
